Recommended-it was a nice way to learn about the history
Sheryl_C, Apr 2024
I did a self-guided audio walking tour & I enjoyed learning about the history of the plantation from the African-American slaves'.perspective. It will take about 2 hours so give yourself time.

Wonderful experience

Brian was an excellent driver and guide to the plantation. The plantation itself is a worth while experience! So important to not forget the pass and learn from it! Would highly recommend both the plantation and the transportation services! We felt right at home with Brian and he set everyone at ease with his easy nature and humor!

Whitney Tour
Gloria_S, Apr 2024
The tour was informative. Gave an insight into our history that you only know by word of mouth or educating yourself to experiences that are available to you. When you see some of these homes in movies they look so grand and when you see it with your own eyes it brings things into perspective. Would recommend this tour.

Excellent experience and service! Loved our driver for the tour! He gave us information regarding New Orleans on our way to the plantation. We felt safe being on the tour with him. The plantation was very educational and we would recommend it to all visitors. It was totally worth the money. Thank you!

Humanity in inhumanity
eric_e, Mar 2024
Whitney brought to life the inhumanity of slavery. The institution dehumanized both the enslaved people and the slave owners

They left me!
Xeriah_K, Mar 2024
They left me! The tour company I can't recommend at all but the plantation is definetly worth the visit!
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Normally, I would not respond to a review like this I don’t even like giving this sort of thing any traction.. But this is so bad. So let me get this straight we have 26 people on the bus and you are the only one to get left? That seems a little strange. We run a combination of Tours, and all of our tours work by timing but it is up to the customer to follow instructions. We told you to be ready for 11:45 AM that we take people to see other plantations and stop for a short break at another Plantation for a bite to eat before we head to the second tour. Unfortunately, we cannot hold up the tour because someone is late and neglected following instructions. Now you’re only telling half the truth. We didn’t leave you stranded. We only left you at the Plantation So that we can continue with the rest of the tour. You neglected to tell us that the driver told the staff at Whitney Plantation when you did show up we would return for you. So we only left you at the Whitney Plantation to continue the tour, but our intent was always to return for you and bring you back to the city. None of these things you mentioned in the review. And you also neglected to mention that my driver called you and asked you if you would like him to pick you up a bite to eat. You asked him if it would be free and he said no, but he would bring you a receipt. And you decline. That is going for beyond what necessary. So when you speak about our customer service being in question, that is false. There’s nothing else we could have done more for you. It’s unfortunate People try to destroy the reputations of companies when they don’t hold up their end to the agreement and then blame us for your misfortunes. We are not a perfect company by far but when we drop the ball we hold ourselves accountable. I hope that the people that are reading this review does not allow this to because we are trying to do more than just Tours. We’re trying to deliver experiences and we will not let customers who are unwilling to follow the rules spoil the tour for everyone else. But out of 26 people you are the only one to get left? Unbelievable!
A reveal of history
Mary_K, Mar 2024
A self-guide audio tour on the property revealing a dark history we shouldn’t ignore. It showed the strength of survivors and the cruelty that others can inflict on fellow humans. Brian our driver was very knowledgeable a well. Plus he had a most wonderful laugh.

Safety concerns
Jane_P, Mar 2024
The audio tour at the Whitney Plantation was excellent. The tour is well work attending. My issue lays with the bus trip to and from the plantation. We were told to be waiting for the bus at 8 am. The bus didn’t pick us up for almost an hour later. Not happy. Brian the bus driver was very informative and funny. However I have concern regarding the safety of the tour. If the speed limit was 60 mph he frequently drove at 75 to 80 mph. He answered mobile phone calls while driving, answer text messages and looked at his clip board. A couple of times he had both hands off the steering wheel. My friends and I didn’t feel safe. Also Brian left a passenger behind at Whitney Plantation after only waiting 2 minutes past the designated departure time.
Response from Host, Mar 2024
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. Even if it’s not the desired result. But I have some questions. The route the bus goes for the Plantation tour they are three different posted speed limits 60 in the city 70 mph across Lake Pontchartrain and 65 the rest of the way to the Plantation. But our buses are equipped with governors that means the engine stalls out at 70. My other concern is the time that you said you were picked up. We are one of the only companies in the city that runs a combination of tours so all of these times have to be spot on. If you were picked up an hour later, after 8 o’clock, the tour could not even operate. It’s just too late. Now you have a pick up window between 8 AM and 8:30 We always suggest everyone be ready for eight. There are so many times that we get calls saying that the bus is late if it’s not there by 8:00 AM but technically your bus is not late until after 8:30 AM We go from hotel to hotel making stops. It’s impossible to have a bus at each hotel to pick up guest at 8 AM. So we have a pick up window. Also, you mentioned that we left someone two minutes after departure time correct? But in the same breath, you mentioned that your driver was late do you not think that the customer should hold their self to the same standard as that they hold the company to? I think if my drivers do their job and the customer followers instructions this works every time. Perfectly. But we do take into considerations sometimes there are unforeseen circumstances that can cause customers to be late but we have never left anyone. My other concern is that you mentioned the driver speeding. And that is a concern of mine But not once did you mention he was driving erratic by Randomly switching lanes Running red lights Making illegal turns? Or in my opinion, the most important one following too close. I am so sorry for the experience that you had. That is not our objective. But it makes it difficult to reprimand a Driver that on the same day has multiple five star reviews. So as an owner, it leaves me in a gray area. I want to please the customer, but at the same time I have to reprimand the driver that has a defense because he will definitely show me the other five star reviews on the day in question. So I hope you kind of see my dilemma as an employer. But unfortunately, you did not get your desired results and for that we are totally sorry. I wish things would have turned out different. But thank you for even taking the time to leave a review, even if it’s less than five stars. Anytime I receive reviews like this is a cause for concern. I often wish I could screenshot all of the five star reviews we receive on this day. So reviews like this put me in a tough place when I get so many five star reviews on the same day. And that is not to say that your concerns are not valid. We take each review into consideration unfortunately, you did not get the desire result, and for that we are absolutely disappointed.
Plantation great. Tour not so much.
David_P, Mar 2024
Too many unnecessary stops on the bus. Only about two hours at the plantation. Not nearly enough time.

The Whitney Plantation tour is well organized and allows you to tour at your own pace. The audio tour is very well done, providing information about how slaves were treated during that time.

Great experience
Tiffany_W, Mar 2024
Brian our driver was fun and knowledgeable of the area. We got picked up right at the time we were told which was great since it was cold in the morning. The drive out to the plantation was nice and he told us about the area on our way. I highly recommend the Whitney plantation Tour and Crescent City tours.

Great Time
David_A, Feb 2024
Great time! Our tourguide Brian (or was it Derek, haha) was really upbeat and kept everyone engaged with fun stories and facts. We were having trouble deciding whether to do Whitney or Oak Alley, so we were pleasantly surprised to get to see Oak Alley when we picked up the other half of the tour. Great small facts along the way and appreciated the picture stops. Great time overall!

A Must Visit
Starla_T, Feb 2024
Brian was our tour guide to the plantation. He was humorous and very knowledgeable about local history as well as Whitney Plantation. The self guided route was perfecty and thoughtfully set up. The guided audio was very well done. We learned so much. It was an emotional stop at the lost children site. The number of lost children was overwhelming. This museum dedicated to slaves is a must visit. It is the only one of its kind. Plantation success was attributed to their slaves.
