What To Expect

On this popular Oahu shore excursion, learn how to surf and ride a wave like traditional ancient Hawaiians, who are believed to have invented the sport of surfing right here in these tropical islands.

Set right on the beaches where surfing began, the class begins with instruction on the proper way to paddle your board and how to pop up to your feet. Your instructor takes care of all the equipment you’ll need for surfing on Oahu. If you’d prefer to paddle in flat water — rather than riding the waves — stand-up paddleboarding is another option.

Your Oahu surfing lesson has three different options: A private 2-hour paddleboarding or surfing lesson, a 2-hour paddleboarding or surfing lesson in a small group that’s no larger than four students or a 1-hour paddleboarding lesson in a group of five students.

If you have kids (5 years and above), or are traveling with someone who has special needs, it’s highly recommended to choose the private surfing lesson for an added degree of attention. All participants must know how to swim, and since Oahu surf lessons are extremely popular, it’s also recommended to book well in advance.

All of the experience was great, however, the pictures taken only provided a few of my granddaughter, photographer focused mainly on the other couple surfing with her.

Ian and Evan were great! My 14 year old son was up on the board and looking proficient in his first lesson. The photos taken by Evan came out quite good. My only complaint was that the GoPro videos were mostly too short and the only long one was evidently damaged when the CD was burned. Not an intentional problem, but would have liked the files on a USB or SD card instead so I could have checked them with a tablet.
