Overview

Home to little penguins and Australian sea lions, Perth’s Shoalwater Islands Marine Park makes for a fun and memorable day trip from Perth. Starting on the mainland, kayak over to Seal Island and Penguin Island, for a guided walk and a picnic lunch. During the summer months, you can also go snorkeling around the island's sheltered coral reefs.

Please meet us at 8am (aim to arrive a little early) in the Pengos Cafe car park, located on Arcadia Drive opposite the Penguin Rd intersection. Upon arrival, please look for our vehicle and trailer of yellow sea kayaks in the car park. Say hello and introduce yourself to the guide.

Maximum weight limit per persons 115kg - due to kayak design and safety recommendations

Sadly we didn’t spend much time to see the sea lions. The tour guide was very helpful and friendly, but when I compare the kayak tour with others I have done, it was not as good. It is a very sustainable activity, this is what I like.

We loved it. The kayaking needs confidence - but they teach you all about it and make sure you’re safe, They give you everything you need and more - life jackets, hats, rash vests, jumpers, dry bags - they even pack lunch for you and fresh water!!! You need to take your flip flops to walk around penguin island it can be hard on your feet otherwise. Such a happy day - would do it again.

OMG what an amazing day! Seeing sea lions pelicans osprey and other wildlife in their natural habitats was amazing. Learning about the plight of the little penguins was very interesting The guide/ instructor was very knowledgeable and made everything easy to understand Lunch was incredible The whole day was faultless and would definitely do again

Great sea kayaking experience for me and my 11yo child! Jimmy, Abby and Rosie were great at ensuring our safety and comfort, with the safety briefings and practice before actual activity. Jimmy shared lots of knowledge on penguin island and its surroundings, so it was great!!! Had a picnic lunch of DIY wraps. Overall, a fantastic experience!

I had never kayaked before but Jimmy and his other instructors were very helpful and friendly. It was fun and felt like an achievement to be able to kayak across the ocean to two separate islands! The seals for excited when they saw us approaching the island and a few came running into the water and they were playing around our kayaks. Great to see them in their natural habitat!

Fun experience showing on WA's unique coastline

Went out with Jimmy for the day, started off a little bit windy but once we got to the other side of the island it was a beautiful day displaying some of the best of what WA has to offer. Jimmy gave us the VIP treatment. Was extremely knowledgeable on the area and what makes the coastline so unique. You could tell he truely loved the area and enjoyed showing it off. Started with a kayak in the bay, spotted some sea lions enjoying the morning sun. Next we kayaked around the back of the island before landing on penguin island. Enjoyed the morning feeding session for the penguins before a quick bite to eat. Spent the afternoon exploring the island, swimming in the calm waters, and spotting the incredible wildlife, before kayaking back to the mainland. Would highly recommend the experience for both tourists and Perth locals looking for a different experience in this beautiful part of the world we call home.
