What To Expect

After making your own way to the San Diego Zoo on the day of your choice, you can head into the zoo's visitor center to pick up a map and plan your route through this acclaimed zoo. The animals live in spacious and beautifully designed enclosures that replicate their natural habitats. The koala and giant panda exhibits are always popular, as are the orangutans and siamangs that climb around in lush forest settings.

Other highlights include the Tiger River exhibit, which features a realistic Asian rainforest environment, and the Gorilla Tropics, which recreates a lush African rainforest. Zoo keeper talks take place at regular intervals every day, with the experts introducing animals such as giraffes, elephants, wolves, lions or jaguars, and more. In the animal nursery, you might get to see some of the zoo’s newest arrivals.

Kids enjoy petting small tame critters in the Petting Paddock and four different play zones provide a safe and entertaining spot to climb and explore.

As you make your way through the zoo, note the extensive gardens — some of the plants growing there supply ingredients for the specialized diets of particular zoo residents.

Viator Disappointment
Traci_G, Apr 2024
I couldn't get the app to work on my phone as I can't get to my e-mails. When I did the chat, I was told I could simply use the confirmation number as I couldn't get the app to work and couldn't get tickets to download. I ended up having to buy separate tickets for the zoo. No phone number to even call Viator. Really disappointed.
a great day--the zoo is amazing.

The entire trip was very nice. Very easy booking with Viator. You should plan an entire day to fully enjoy the zoo.

The number of species there, the bus around the park commentar and Ariel tram ride. The organization of it. The habitats were so large and natural. The focus on saving endangered species.

An Unforgettable Experience at San Diego Zoo

If you're in San Diego, a visit to the San Diego Zoo is a must! This zoo stands out not just for its size but for its commitment to animal care and conservation. Each exhibit, from the lush gorilla habitat to the expansive African plains, is thoughtfully designed, giving visitors a glimpse into the natural worlds of these amazing creatures. What really impressed me was the variety of animals and how active they seemed. The zoo's layout encourages a lot of walking, but it's worth every step to see animals like pandas, koalas, and polar bears up close. Plus, the aviaries are a bird lover's paradise! The staff deserves a shoutout too. They were knowledgeable and passionate, always ready to share interesting facts about the animals. Even during busy times, the zoo maintained a sense of calm, making it a great place for families. Don't miss the guided bus tour – it offers a great overview of the zoo and helps you plan which exhibits to explore more. And yes, wear comfortable shoes! Overall, the San Diego Zoo is an exceptional experience that combines education, conservation, and fun in a beautiful setting. A true gem for animal lovers and families!

Zoo and Conservation Learning Day
Judy_H, Nov 2023
Definitely the best zoo we have ever been to, and we travel throughout the US. The habitats are amazing. Toured around on the guide bus and skyway - so much valuable information, including learning about zoo conservation. Thank you for a great day.
Just brilluant

What an amazing day, truly the world’s best. Very well organised and transport for those less able. We were four adults and ended up spending the whole day here.
Zoo Day
Greg_S, Nov 2023
Nice zoo. Well layed out and designed. Staff very friendly and helpful. Overall the cost doesn't match the experience. Other zoos offer more for considerably less cost.
Great zoo!
Michael_G, Oct 2023
Great zoo, of course. Price was the same through Viator as buying online from the zoo directly. Electronic ticked through the app was easy too.
GREAT ZOO! EASY TO GET AROUND WITH TOUR BUS, KANGAROO BUS & AERIAL TRAM.
Marc_F, Oct 2023
We are both Senior citizens and based on a sign we saw at the Gate, it appears we could have received a lower price at the Zoo Gate vs. what we paid Viator. There was NO option on Viator to get tickets for a Senior Discount, so I feel we paid about $8.00 per Senior too much or $16.00 total. The 8 hours we spent at the Zoo were great!
Amazing
Tracy_S, Sep 2023
The whole experience was excellent, I even found quiet spots to sit and reflect. If you're going on the tour bus the best side to sit is the right hand side in my opinion. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to make the most of your day.
Fun Visit

I’ve always wanted to see The San Diego Zoo since the days of Joan Embry on Johnny Carson. It was as wonderful as expected. Enjoyed the bus tour and the aerial view. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable.
