What To Expect

Make your way to the Mission Cultural Center to meet your guide and your small group of 12 people or fewer.

Begin your walking tour with a San Francisco classic: the Mission burrito. Crammed full and masterfully rolled, the Mission-style burrito inspires debates as fiercely as it does appetites. Hear the legends behind the beans as you chow down.

The other stops on your tour may include a famous bakeshop, Italian deli, traditional clam chowder shop, local ice cream shop, and a mystery spot. Skip the line and the wait for each dish, and learn about the Mission’s rich cultural and architectural heritage as you walk around between bites.

Complete your culinary walking tour of the Mission in early afternoon.

Jamie is great guide
Gail_Y, Apr 2024
The murals were the best part. Food wise, Queso Birria was the most memorable. We tasted a burrito, a pan dulce, a fried ravioli and a fantastic chocolate s'more.
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Thank you for your kind words, Gail! We're pleased to hear that you enjoyed our selections and that James made your San Francisco Walking Food Tour even more memorable. We hope to see you on another adventure soon!
Secret food tour of the Mission District

Harrison did a great job sharing history, mural highlights and wonderful food. Very enjoyable. Perfect size group of 6. Only item I would have skipped was the ravioli. Rest was great!

Food, art and history
Roimata_T, Apr 2024
Our tour guide Dave was so cool, relaxed and knowledgeable. The food was delicious…especially the Biria taco. Our favourite part was learning of the painted murals and the hidden meanings in some of them. The history of the architecture and town planning was also great. The highlight though was our guide who was so friendly. Thank you Dave - and hope you make it to NZ one day :)
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Thank you for sharing your positive feedback, Roimata! We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed our San Francisco Walking Food Tour with Dave, and we'll be sure to pass your kind words along to him. We look forward to welcoming you on our tours in over 60 cities worldwide!

Wonderful and Unique Food Tour
Laura_M, Apr 2024
Such a good tour and more than food. Zachary was extremely knowledgeable about the Mission neighborhood, the architecture, the history and all the beautiful murals and Victorian houses that are all over that part of the city. The food we had was fantastic and very representative of the neighborhood (Latin American). The portions were huge, we didn't need dinner plans after. Lots of walking but everything is flat and the meeting place was close to transit. Would highly recommend!
Fun and fabulous food tour!
Kim_K, Apr 2024

San Francisco through food
Anna_M, Apr 2024
Mark was honestly so incredible. His knowledge of food as a chef was intricate, and his passion for his city came across beautifully through his personal stories and knowledge of the eateries. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants an informative and hassle free tour of the city.
Response from Host, Apr 2024

Great walking tour with history and food
Andrew_G, Apr 2024
Great walking tour with history and food. There is a significant part of the tour that’s outdoors so be prepared for that. Mark is a very nice and knowledgeable tour guide.
Fairly mediocre and drawn out
Nicole_L, Apr 2024
I have been on several food tours in the area but this one was a bit disappointing. I appreciated the authenticity of the food stops but most of it just wasn't good. Burrito was bland and was overfilled with rice and beans vs meat. The concha was dry and a bit stale. We didn't stick around for the chocolate drink but the highlight was the birria taco. We spend most of the time looking at murals, which are beautiful and creative storytelling, but the guide went into an incredible amount of details on each which got to feel a little overwhelming midway through. It was not worth the money IMO. There are better tours.
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Thank you for sharing your feedback, Nicole. We sincerely appreciate your comments and regret that your recent tour with us did not meet your expectations. We aim to offer a balance between showcasing the vibrant culinary scene of San Francisco and providing enriching cultural insights - such as the murals that adorn the city streets. However, on this occasion, the focus may have shifted too heavily towards the latter - leading to a less than optimal experience for you. We also recognize that tastes vary, and we regret that our selections didn't resonate with you as much as we hoped. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us refine and improve our tours. We will take your comments into careful consideration as we reassess the balance of culinary stops and cultural highlights on our San Francisco Walking Food Tour. We hope you'll consider joining us again in the future. Many of our guests have praised the authenticity and uniqueness of our tours, and we would love the opportunity to showcase the best of what Secret Food Tours has to offer. If you’d like to discuss this further, don’t hesitate to reach out to us at info@secrettours.com.
The Mission District you may not know about but will love.
Dean_V, Mar 2024
Food was great and history of the Mission district and murals was even better! Tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and we highly recommend him.
Good
mirshasaynes, Mar 2024
I enjoyed the tour because friends I met there. Food options were good but I expected more explanation on them by the owners or the tour guide on why we were visited them. Some explanation about the streets and murals. It is a Latin neighborhood so a Latin guide may be more effective for feeling the culture or respond questions properly.
Zachary was a great tour...
Jacquelynn_O, Mar 2024
Zachary was a great tour guide for our group. His knowledge of the art and food options in The Mission were really helpful.
Response from Host, Mar 2024

Must Do
Marcia_W, Mar 2024
We spent 3 wonderful hours with Jamie. This wasn’t just a good tour, Jamie shared local murals and architecture with use as we leisurely walked through ethnic neighborhoods and tasted amazing food at every stop. This was definitely the way to top off our 4 days in San Fran. Thank you Jamie!!! You even entertained a picky 16 year old too😊
Response from Host, Mar 2024
Thank you for your glowing review, Marcia. We're delighted that James' expertise and enthusiasm made your tour memorable, even for your 16-year-old. We hope to welcome you back!
