We booked the “Bioluminescent Bay with Transportation from San Juan” tour through Viator. A van picked us up at one of two pickup spots in San Juan. Our driver was very chill, and very smooth behind the wheel. It was about 1.5-2 hrs to drive there and an hour back. The van had AC which was nice. The tour itself was lovely. Our guides Miche and Emily did such a fabulous job! We kayaked through a gorgeous little meandering Mangrove forest, got to see an iguana, and then had some time to explore the bay once we arrived. In the bay, Emily and Miche did a spectacular job of gathering everyone up again. Emily then explained the ecology of the mangrove forest and a bit about the “critters” we were there to see. Very entertaining and funny and informative. The guides then used tarps to allow everyone to see the plankton - which were so glittery and bright under the tarp! Truly spectacular! Quite a magical experience. Miche did an excellent job of swooping in when folks had trouble kayaking (a few of us hit trees) and see was able to help those who needed it but also keep the line moving. There were then chips and bottles of water waiting for us at the end. Make sure to bring some cash for tips for the guides and the driver at the end 10/10 would recommend to anyone

Fantastic Experience

This was a fantastic experience. I definitely recommend. The pickup was super convenient. Make sure to call to confirm the time beforehand.
Magical

We had an amazing experience! All of the captains were amazing and Captain Emily knew so much about the eco reserve and bioluminescence. The experience of bioluminescence was 12/10. Things to be mindful of 1) the darker it is the better so look at moon calendar to plan the best day to go. 2) you will get wet so bring an extra pair of clothes 3) don’t bother bringing your phone it won’t capture the magic, just enjoy the experience.
Cool kayaking experience

Very cool and different to be kayaking at night through the mangroves. The tour guides gave good explanations and made sure that we saw the bioluminescence Best for kids over 10.
Magical night

Really great trip with my wife and kids. My two boys (14 and 10) loved it. Tour guides were great and the mangroves were cool to kayak through.
Magical, relaxed yet exciting

Kayaking in the dark through the mangroves was fun! I highly recommend for all ages. Definitely glad that we did this.
Must Do!
Max_G, Mar 2024
We had a great time. It is a really cool experience. The guides are great. Take your time kayaking, enjoy the experience. The only thing to worry about is bumping into other who do not know how to kayak. Biobay is a must-do on your trip
Magical and magnificent experience that no camera will ever do justice
Laurie_L, Mar 2024
A magical and magnificent experience that can only be appreciated in person. No camera can capture the wonder of this experience. The guides were informative and had a lot to do to corral people with little experience. The sunset then the revelation of the stars overhead was breathtaking. The use of the tarps to get into total darkness was a unique addition to ensure we saw the bioluminescence.
Interesting

The guides were good. Loved the kayaking. But could not see much bioluminescence because the moon was almost full.
Awesome nighttime kayaking trip with an awesome tour company
Leonard_B, Feb 2024
We had a wonderful kayak trip. Our van driver called us an hour or so before picking us up to make sure that we knew where to meet him. Excellent communication. The ride from San Juan to Fajardo was just over an hour. Everything about this tour was excellent. This tour company is well organized and all of the guides were friendly and helpful. They were so efficient at getting us visitors suited up in life jackets, teaching us how to paddle correctly, and explaining how the night would go. There were five guides with our group which was perfect. We paddled out through the mangroves while it was light out, but getting dark. It got dark as we floated around in the bay. We had a great night for seeing the bioluminescence effect in the water. We were told to not book the trip on a full moon night, so we did not. The paddling was easy. Coming back from the bay through the mangroves in the dark was a bit challenging and a little bit scary, but it's all doable. Just take your time and follow your guide, not letting them get too far ahead of you. I highly recommend this tour and this tour company.
Bioluminescence was fantastic!
Melinda_H, Feb 2024
Transportation picked us up exactly as said. Driver was very nice. Our group of kayakers left last, it was great to go through the mangroves in the dusk on our way to the bay. Emily, AJ and Sammy were our guides and they were fantastic! Loved seeing the bioluminescence stirring the water and pouring some on your leg and seeing sparks light up! We were 1/2 moon but still was worth the money! Thank you!
Bay was beautiful

We took the 4:30pm tour with transportation from San Juan. The experience once in the bay was amazing. The details said there was no more than 12 travelers however we had 30 people in the kayaking tour. Also slightly chaotic paddling back in dark with people coming the other way that we’re not able to control their kayak and crashed into people. Just good to know when planning.
Once in a Lifetime Tour
Ruth_M, Jan 2024
Wow!! Kayaking through the long channel to the bay was SO cool! It was dark with overhanging mangrove trees and their roots, the sounds of coqui frogs, crickets, birds and the occasional jumping fish. It was spooky and reminded me of a Disneyland ride, but it was real! Out in the bay, the guides kept us together and provided tarps to cover us for better viewing on a night with a half moon. The luminescence was fascinating. I always felt safe and the guides were very nice and helpful. Other tourists (and there are lots of groups per night) were very friendly. Truly a once-in-a-lifetime memorable experience.
Unique experience—not to miss!

Amazing trip. Well organized and led by an awesome group of tour guides. The bioluminescence was so cool to see. Incredible. Highly recommend.
The glow is real!
Samir_D, Dec 2023
With PR having 3 of the 5 bioluminescent bays in the world, we had to go see for ourselves! It is a pretty amazing sight to see! And we got a nice little education while in the bay. We had perfect weather and were a bit worried that we took the earlier slot and thought we may not be able to see the glow very well but the sun went down quickly and by the time we arrived in the bay, it was pitch black except for the moon, stars and small flashlights our guides had on their backs! We were picked up at 4 and the drive, with traffic, took about 1 1/2 hours to get there (typically about an hour to get there). There were about 30 people in our tour and we had 5 guides so we were basically assigned to a guide that kept track of us. JOE was our guide and he was the best!! My adult daughter and I ended up being towed by him both ways because I could not get the hang of it!! LOL!! Our family is all pretty physically fit but rowing works your shoulders like nobody's business!! Tip: Cover yourself with bug spray! I did not spray my face and got a huge bite on my cheek. And bring a change of clothes. Even though you are in a kayak, not splashing, all of us had wet bottoms by the end. The place where we checked in kept all of our bags safely. You are encouraged to bring nothing in the kayak. They will take your family pic before you leave and you can get it off their FB page.
Worth it
Jennifer_T, Dec 2023
We had the right conditions and could see the glow. The guides brought tarps which really enriched the experience.
Great kayaking trip
Sumer_W, Dec 2023
We had a really good time kayaking to the bioluminescence area. The guides were all really helpful and had great attitudes. We felt very safe even though much of the trip was in the dark.
Pure fun!
Sharon_R, Dec 2023
I’ve never seen so many stars in the sky at once. It was thrilling to kayak in the pitch black of the night and to see the bioluminescence of the bay. Lots of fun.
Amazing!
Jackie_H, Nov 2023
Amazing! Emily, Niche, and AJ were funny, helpful, and knowledgeable. The bioluminescence was so cool! Know that it's not going to look like the photoshopped images on Pinterest and you will love it. It was one of the most magical things I've seen. The kayak ride was a little harder going to the destination than coming from because of the current but it wasn't bad. I would 100% do it again!
Amazing

Excellent! Highly recommended! Emily, Christopher, AJ and everyone else were awesome! The bio luminescence were amazing! My teenager loved it!
