Visit the Cajón del Maipo area on this full-day tour from Santiago. What To Expect
Your day trip starts with hotel pickup from select areas of Santiago (Providencia, Las Condes, Vitacura and Santiago Centro) or at a meeting point. Then begin the drive south of the city to Cajón del Maipo, which sits next to the Andes and marks the start of the road to El Yeso.
Along the volcano road, you'll pass by small towns where residents have escaped city life for a more peaceful countryside existence near the mountains, and then head past Tinoco Tunnel and to Embalse del Yeso on a dirt road. You can admire views of the Andes before stopping at the lake to take in more views and enjoy a picnic of different types of meats. Also included is a bottle of wine to share.
In the afternoon, start the journey back to Santiago, where you'll be dropped off at your hotel or central location in the early evening.

MTO Tour is the worst travel agency I've ever dealt with. They confirmed my booking the night before my tour through a WhatsApp text. They instructed me to wait at 6:40 am the next morning at the pick-up location, but I wasn't given a contact number. I waited for 30 minutes in the cold, but they never showed up, and the travel agency ignored my messages and calls throughout the day. Finally, after multiple attempts to contact them, when they finally replied, they didn't even bother to explain or apologize for ruining my trip and schedule. They even had the audacity to say they would "make an exception" with me and grant me the refund.
On the other hand, I am deeply disappointed with Viator. Despite being able to reach their customer support promptly, I ultimately had to assume control of the situation myself. Additionally, Viator continues to allow this tour agency to operate on their platform without imposing any sanctions, potentially misleading many people into trusting in an unsafe travel agency. Viator should sanction this kind of behaviour shown by MTO Tour, and support the customers who have been affected by their incompetence. I haven't received any kind of indemnity for the inconvenience and stress throughout the process that I've experienced.

Unfortunately, my experience with this tour company was far from satisfactory. Despite having prior communication with the tour guide and the tour company the night before, there was an alarming lack of responsiveness from the guide when we arrived in Santiago in the morning. Despite our numerous attempts to reach out via calls and text messages, we received no assistance whatsoever, leaving us stranded and unable to join the tour as planned. It's frustrating to see a company neglect basic customer communication and fail to prioritize customer satisfaction. We requested a refund in light of our experience, but our request was met with silence. I strongly advise against joining this tour or any tour for that matter with this tour company.

My husband and I did not really enjoy this tour, only one part of it. First of all we could only get a seat in the very back of a large van (16 people). The seats are smaller then airplane seats. I also got the seat where the suspension was very bad. If you are a couple and there are only single seats available, take them. I felt this tour was such a waste of time, if you want to go into the Andes and spend some time there take another tour. We were picked up early which was fine, after everyone was picked up...first stop for 20 minute coffee break, which turned out to be 35 minutes, next stop, more coffee if you want it and a quick bathroom break at the check in point for the area...this was okay. Next a long drive which is okay as you are going from Santiago to a remote area. A few nice stops along the way. Finally you get to your destination...wish someone would have mentioned to be wearing my swimming gear, I surely would have gone in the water, stunning views all around you....40 minute stop...wish it was way longer. Time to go back.....one hour stop for lunch at an 18.00 buffet....bring snacks...why are we stopping? Next stop at a chocolate place which was cute and ended up being 40 minutes, not too bad...then another stop for their picnic, which is not a picnic...another stop, would have been okay if we hadn't already stopped for an hour for lunch. Picnic should be packed and done in the Andes or packed snacks and served in the van on the way back. I would not take this tour, find another way to get to the Andes where you actually spend time there and not waste all your time with coffee and food.

The tour guide, Jaime, was so polite and on time with everything. He gave great narration and was funny. The trip out to Embalse el Yeso was exciting and very beautiful.
