What To Expect

Arrive at the Manga School Nakano for your approximately 3-hour manga lesson. Meet your instructor and fellow students, then listen to a brief lecture on techniques and the history of manga. Students of all skill levels are welcome; the instructor will adjust their lessons to you, whether you're a complete beginner or honing your craft.

Try out some manga production tools such as screen tones, inks and three different types of specialized pen nibs. Begin working on your own manga-type character in a step-by-step way, listening to instructions or demonstrations with each step. Beginners can choose from various manga references to copy with the instructor's help. Manga drawing has several processes; pencil drawing (draft), inking (erasing all pencil lines), painting black parts, correcting mistakes and adding highlights with white ink. The last step is pasting screen tones (grey parts, textures, effects).

At the conclusion of your class, you'll walk away with your finished manga drawing as a souvenir.

We had the best time during our lesson with Nao! I booked the lesson for our kids, my husband and myself, and Nao was able to tailor her teaching to our different ages, levels, and styles. She was very kind, patient and knowledgeable. We enjoyed chatting with her about different manga and animes we like, and then choosing the characters for our drawings. We all ended up with incredible masterpieces. Highly recommended! We hope to do it again when we come back to Tokyo!!!

What a lovely experience to set around with the kids and work on something unique that would last a lifetime. Really enjoyed it. One wrinkle was figuring out where they located. They speak minimal English and it was tough find them. Better instructions needed.

A great fun family experience

This was such a fun experience for all, parents and teens alike. The experienced Manga artist introduced us to the basics and we ended up producing some great (some passable - mine!) drawings. Our instructor shared fascinating insights into the history of Manga and how it works and the kids had fun discussing their favorite characters and series. A great shared family experience. Highly recommend.

Incredible Experience Drawing Manga Art

We had an amazing time creating manga art with the Manga School in Nakano. We stayed over our session by an hour, we were having such a great lesson. I booked the session for my children, my nephew and I. We didn’t know what to expect, it the instructor was patient and kind, and so much fun. She enjoyed our class as much, as we did. She was excited and engaging, and was very thorough, using a whiteboard and several book references. We each got a set of supplies, and we got to keep our artwork while she kept copies to display and to post on Instagram. Highly recommend, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This manga lesson was amazing! We were taught the techniques for different ages and genders and had an opportunity to sketch, draw with ink, shade… We love our paintings that will get framed once we get home. The lesson was fun and engaging and a perfect intro to the world of manga.

I thought the experience was very good. I think it is more suitable for people who are learning to draw or perhaps someone with an idea for their manga. I enjoyed using real G pen, marupen and brush pens. Rena Saiya also gave interesting tips and insight about manga when I asked questions. Don't be afraid to ask!

Great Manga Drawing Lesson

My daughter enjoyed this very much, she already knew how to draw and the teacher really asked her a lot of questions and my daughter said she made her think of things she had never thought of before when she was drawing Manga. The teacher is so nice and patient I think this would be fun for anyone to enjoy. It is a little bit hard to find but if you take a taxi from the train station and show them the address they will find it. There is a sign that says Manga Drawing School on the Building.
