The tour will commence directly outside the electronic ticket gates of Koenji Station on the JR Train Network. Koenji Station is only two stops by train from Shinjuku Station (6 min) or five stops by train from Shibuya Station (18 min).

This is a ‘no-fuss’ Tokyo cycling, walking and food tour with an emphasis on socialising, exploration and local discovery. There won’t be any major sightseeing or ‘fine dining’ stops on our itinerary.
For the enjoyment of the group and your personal safety, you are expected to be competent riding a bicycle in an urban environment through narrow and potentially crowded streets and on uneven surfaces for a distance of roughly 12 - 15 km (7.5 - 9.5 mi).
Guests should be over 140 cm in height (4'7) to comfortably ride the bikes and helmets can be provided for all participants on request.
Near public transportation
All salvaged ‘mamachari’ bicycles are ‘Japanese-sized’ and come equipped with front baskets that have the capacity to hold a standard sized backpack.

Most travelers can participate
Japanese cuisine often contains meat and seafood elements, with ‘dashi’ being a common base ingredient. Please understand that we will be visiting typical local eateries and that it can be difficult to cater to personal tastes, dietary requirements and food allergies.
Group size, environmental factors and the speed in which the group eats and cycles will all impact on the finishing time of our bike tour. As a rough guide, it’s a 3.5 to 4 hour outing.
Please appreciate that you have chosen an outdoor activity that may be impacted by the weather. If we encounter a rainy day, basic ponchos will be provided and our cycling tour generally proceeds as planned.
By attending this Tokyo bike tour you acknowledge the adventurous nature of the ride and that participation can involve a degree of personal risk. Cycling liability insurance is included for the cycling portion of our experience but you are expected to possess comprehensive travel insurance to protect yourself from unforeseen incidents.

Cancellation Policy

You can cancel up to 24 hours in advance of the experience for a full refund.

For a full refund, you must cancel at least 24 hours before the experience’s start time.
If you cancel less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time, the amount you paid will not be refunded.
Any changes made less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time will not be accepted.

Cut-off times are based on the experience’s local time.
This experience requires good weather. If it’s canceled due to poor weather, you’ll be offered a different date or a full refund.

Bike and Bites around Tokyo

We had a wonderful time touring around Tokyo with Andy. We enjoyed seeing a different side of Tokyo. We did tourist attractions but what we really liked about this tour is we got to see and learn about how the residents live. We were able to meet some and everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Also sampling the different foods was a treat. We went to places we might not have found out about. We also passed the bike parking test. This is a 10 out of 10 tour. Highly recommend for anyone that wants to do something off the beaten path to learn more about what life is like in Tokyo.

Amazing introduction to Japan

First day in Tokyo and the bike ride with Andy was the perfect way to start our trip. Roding the bikes through quaint streets was awesome in itself, and the food was great, but what really made it special was Andy sharing so much interesting information about how the Japanese live, work and play. It set the bar so high for the rest of our trip and I know it will be a highlight. As long as you can ride a bike I highly recommend booking this experience. There is nothing like getting off the beaten track. It even rained for part of our ride and the kids didn’t complain once which is a first!

Such a worth while...

A fun, off-beat discovery of underrated Tokyo

Andy’s bike tour was one of the highlights of our family trip to Tokyo. Such a great guy and we learnt more about the real way of life and culture of the Japanese people than we did from everyone else put together. We are not big fans of mainstream tourist attractions and tours and so the small group and more personal experience was perfect for our family. Great localized experience in Nakano

Andy was a very friendly and welcoming tour guide who made us feel very comfortable throughout the tour. He also shared with us many bits of his local knowledge of Japan having lived here for over 20 years. The cycling route itself was comfortable enough for people with basic cycling skills to navigate. The sights and scenery along the route were all very nice too. Additionally, the route was well planned with appropriate breaks and restpoints. Andy also always gave good heads up of what to expect in the tour and also had an excellent selection of local food and snacks to introduce to us.

Andy was a wonderful guide! He made the experience easy, from the directions on where to meet him and even making sure we knew where we were going after the tour. The bikes were in great condition for an urban ride, and very comfortable. He was full of knowledge about the neighborhoods we explored, and gave us great insights into many aspects of the food and culture. The food we tasted was excellent, and many of the items we wouldn’t have either known about, or might have been intimidated to order or try on our own. He answered our many questions about the area and culture, and after the tour even sent a personalized note giving us details on the food we tried, and some recommendations tailored to our interests. Overall, this was such a wonderful experience, and I would highly recommend it! Thank you so much, Andy!

A True Cultural Tour

Andy's bike tour was really awesome. He was a super friendly and fun guy to tour us around for a few hours. The less touristic part of Tokyo we rode around in was packed with local charm and Andy layered it with excellent storytelling. He paced the ride really well making strategic stops throughout not just to introduce us to good food, but also to share interesting little sociological commentaries about housing, schooling, religion and Tokyo's culture in general. Honestly, one of the best travel tours I've ever experienced in any city. Great stuff!
