Overview

Climbing Mt. Batur for sunrise is a signature Bali experience but requires a very early start. Avoid the risk of driving through the night when you book this no-frills package that includes the mandatory guide, breakfast on the mountain, a coffee plantation visit after your hike, and 2-way transfers from hotels in Ubud and much of south Bali. Mount Batur Sunrise Trekking Itinerary: 01.30 – 02.30 AM: Pick up time. 03.30 AM: Arrival at starting point 05.30 AM: Arrival at the summit of Mount Batur (sunrise point). Mount Batur is an active volcano that attracts tourists, enjoying an unforgettable sunrise from the top of the active volcano Mount Batur. Spectacular views and vibrations from the holy earth fill your mind and soul. 06.10 am : Welcoming the beautiful sunrise from the top of Mount Batur with breathalking views 07.00 AM: Hike down to car park 08.00am : arrive at Car park 09.30 am : Arrival at your hotel ( Ubud Area )

What To Expect

If you’re hiking Mt. Batur, your driver will collect you between 1:30–2:30am depending on your location; if you’re taking the Jeep tour, pickup is at a more leisurely 4am or thereabouts, and you watch the sunrise from the black lava fields, not the crater rim.

Hikers meet your guide at the base of the volcano, and start climbing around 3:30am. After a rewarding but not overly strenuous hike, reach your sunrise point on the crater rim around 5:30am, in good time to watch the sun shed its rays across Bali and Lombok.

Enjoy a simple breakfast on this active volcano, then begin the guided hike down. On your way back, stop at a coffee plantation: A hot springs visit is available on request and at your own expense.

If you’ve booked the package with rafting, cap off your morning with a thrilling white-water adventure before your guide drops you back to your hotel.

An incredible hike with the most spectacular sunrise views. Our guide JRO was very patient and knowledgeable and his English was excellent. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone who is up for an epic adventure.

Amazing trip! Highly recommend! Our guide was Tri, she was so nice and was happy to go at our pace. She was very helpful, especially when I fell over on the way down! She also took a lot of pictures for us. Well worth the early start, and it really wasn’t too difficult a walk. It was quite cloudy on our morning, but still such a beautiful view.

Picked up on time, guide was excellent. The hike is not easy, almost continuously steep for 2 hours. Very nice views at the top, expect some clouds in your view if visiting in months outside of June to August. Not that cold up top, was fine with a sweater. Basic breakfast when at the summit

We just checked (after the trip) what the itinerary was supposed to be, since we only booked the trip a day ahead. We found out that a coffeetasting was supposed to be included after the climbing of mount Batur. Maybe the other couple said they didn’t want to do that because they were very tired, but we were never asked.

Bawa, the driver picked us up promptly at 2am and he was great to get us there. At the trail head, Tri was our guide. She was fantastic - she knows the routes very well. Her decades of knowledge and experience are truly evident in her care for us. She was so helpful and genuine. She helped us see great views and took great pictures of us. She went our pace which was a bit on the faster than average side due to our hiking experience. The hike is well worth the effort and a memorable experience!

When you see 2 AM start time, it can be scary... Especially when you take a tight agenda with other activities. But we did it after a whole day tour with snorkeling and etc. But it was breath taking. We made it to the top 2.5 hours and there you have the most rewarding cup of team and a basic breakfast. Its a ones in a lifetime experience, so I would really recomend. The driver was super nice and stopped at McDonalds so that we can get something to eat and the tour guide has been doing her job since she was 10 years old, so she knows all the short cuts and can give you options to harder or easier tracks. There are a lot of a people at the top and its amazing vibe. We were flying out the same day out of Bali, but still did it and it was amazing.

Positive: - Great view of the city and the volcano - Enjoyable hike of medium complexity - Nice guide, always smiling. Negative: - While our guide was very nice, he was very young, barely spoke english and so couldn't really help us enjoy the experience beyond some basic help. - There are many people taking the same road, reaching the same peak. The first part of the trek is shared between hikers and cars/scooters, which makes it not enjoyable at all for hikers. - The value for money seems very low. More than 50$ for essentially a taxi drive, an entrance ticket and a small breakfast is quite high in Bali.

We enjoyed this hike to Mount Batur with our guide Kedut. He was super nice guy and speak well English. We were very lucky to see the sunrise with breakfast on the top of the mountain. The trip included pick up and drop off from / to the hotel. The team was very organized and friendly. It was a great experience to hike 10 km hike on to of active volcano.

We had Tri as our guide and she was honestly so sweet and helpful. Despite having recently injured her foot due to an accident, she soldiered on and made sure we were okay. She took great photos and made sure we were all fed and looked after. On the way down she even lent me her walking sticks! Thanks so much Tri, we look forward to being back in Bali!

I was really on the fence about this due to the early start time and worried that it would be too tough of a climb but so glad we went ahead with it. Our guide Andra was absolutely amazing at keeping up with both the fast walkers in the group and staying back with the slower ones. He also took some fantastic photos of us at the top and made sure we were all safe and comfortable, helping us up when it got a little rocky. There are definitely some steep / rocky parts of the climb but we took many rest stops on the way up to catch our breath / buy water etc. Such a fun and memorable morning thanks to a fantastic climbing guide!

Beautiful scenery, but will not recommend this guide. He didn't seem to be very motived to do the tour. He walked very slowly and sat down every 100 meters which resulted in that we didn't reach the summit before sunrise. He scammed us and also to tried to skip the rest of the tour up to the summit and around the crater. Would recommend to do the hike without a guide on daytime.

Had a wonderful time trekking up Mount Batur in November. It's a crazy early 2am start and some of the trek was tough-going (up to moderate fitness required) but it was so worth it! The orange haze over Lombok was spectacular. Our lovely guide, Tri, was tireless in making sure we got a great view and lots of memorable pictures. Thanks so much!

Worth it for the breathtaking views

Ketut was a great guide. Although the pace of the hike was challenging for me (others in the group were more fit), the experience was worth it to watch the sun rise from complete darkness. Torches were provided and you can rent a blanket at the top from some locals. Definitely wear shoes with good grip, as you will notice the loose gravel a lot more on the descent! Also bring some cash for the 5K toilet fee.
