Meet your guide in central Vienna and venture out to the Wachau Valley by coach. The heart of Austria’s wine heritage, this region is beloved by locals and visitors alike for its delicious wine, charming villages and stunning scenery.
Arrive in the medieval town of Dürnstein, where Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned in 1192. Soak up some free time to roam the castle ruins and wander the charming streets. After working up an appetite, get cozy in a local wine tavern and savor a traditional lunch (own expense).
Hop back aboard your coach and view the passing scenery as you head deeper into the valley. From May to September, relax with an hour-long river cruise from Spitz to Melk along the Danube River.
Continue to Melk Abbey (admission included during winter months), a renowned Benedictine abbey dating back to 1089 and home to stunning views of the Danube.
Before returning to Vienna, you’ll also have the chance to sample local blends at a small winery, as well as other regional specialties. Visit the valley’s oldest church, founded in 987, all while learning the rich heritage and history behind the Wachau Valley.
Your day trip will conclude at your original departure point in the evening.

- Cut-off times are based on the experience’s local time.

Thomas was fantastic! It was a great way to spend the day and the wineries we went to were perfect. Even if white wines are not your favorite you will be pleasantly surprised.

What a beautiful day in Wachau Valley! Our guide, Tomas, was EXCEPTIONAL. He gave us the history of sights from Vienna to Melk and to the vineyards. Lovely photo opportunities. We went on a great tour of the Melk monastery, went wine tasting and chocolate tasting, had a fabulous lunch in a very quaint town, shopped, viewed different vineyards, visited another quaint town, and monastery. Tomas was thoughtful, kind, very friendly and personable. The day flew. Don’t miss this tour!

Camilo was our guide and he did an excellent job of educating us in the history and development of wine production in the Wacchau valley. The tour of the Abbey was beautiful and lunch was delicious. We had a lovely wine tasting at Laglers.

Camillo was a wonderful and very knowledgeable host. He informed our group on the wine region, including soil types, history, producers and growers, etc. I would have preferred a third winery over visiting Dürnstein, but the experience was great exactly as it was.

Camillo was more than a tour guide - he was a gracious host! I traveled with my daughter and we both agreed it was one of the highlights of our trip. I am far from a wine
connoisseur. My daughter, Sabrina, is much more knowledgeable. The couple with us on the tour were serious wine collectors. Camillo was ensured that each of us at our different levels felt involved. He has a wealth of knowledge - not just in the area of wines and the vineyards.
Visiting the charming viillage of Durnstein was something I had always hoped to do.
Our outdoor lunch at a Heurigen was magic.
Camillo gifted us with a memorable experience.

What a fun day we had! Thomas was knowledgeable about the history of Vienna and about wines. Because we traveled in early October after the grape harvest, a highlight of the trip included meeting one of the vintners in his wine cellar and being able to watch the crushing of the grapes and the transfer of the juice into the stainless steel bats for fermentation. We also got to test the sugar content of the grapes as well as taste numerous wines. A fun and educational day!
