What To Expect
Greet your guide at the Vienna Explorer tour office on Franz Josefs Kai and make your way to a local metro station. From here, you’ll take the metro to a train station and board a train destined for the Wachau Valley — a luscious region replete with vineyards, wineries and quaint villages.
On arrival in the valley, collect your modern bikes and listen to a short safety briefing. The gentle, 15-mile (24-km) route is comprised primarily of cycle paths and quiet roads, ensuring you’ll feel safe and secure throughout.
Pedal beside the picturesque Danube River and feast your senses on stunning scenery before stopping at your first winery to sample the local bounty. During each tasting, a wine expert will detail the production processes and subtle tastes of each wine.
Midway through the day, you’ll stop in the charming village of Dürnstein to explore during free time. Opt to ascend to the ruins of a fortress used to incarcerate King Richard the Lionhear or simply relax on the beach beside the Danube. Swimming is optional so bring along a towel and bathing suit if you’d like to dip in the Danube.
After lunch in a local tavern, continue cycling to your final winery before returning to the train station for the transfer back to Vienna.

- If you cancel less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time, the amount you paid will not be refunded.
- Any changes made less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time will not be accepted.
- Cut-off times are based on the experience’s local time.
- This experience requires a minimum number of travelers. If it’s canceled because the minimum isn’t met, you’ll be offered a different date/experience or a full refund.

Taz, was our guide. Very engaging, professional and knowledgeable. Maybe the best I've encountered and I do a lot of tours like this.
The bikes were top quality, well kept and in nice, new condition.
The tour itself was absolutely beautiful and well orchestrated. Great tastings, beautiful scenery, nice lunch and an overall 5 star experience.

Tim was very accommodating and full of knowledge. We learned so much! This is more than a wine tour. Not to mention the sights and wine were more then I ever thought:) the biking is very mild and easy to do.

Great biking-wine tour through Wachau Valley Wine Region. The tour started in Vienna at a bike shop, then we went by train to the sister bike shop in Krems. Proceed by bike to several wineries to taste wines and also local liquors/schnapps/brandies. Total amount biked was approximately 17 miles (27 km) total (8.5 miles down, and 8.5 miles back). Big pours on the wine - one of the best tours we have ever been on. Suggestion: trying starting in Krems if you are in the area, saves about an hour on the train.

Tim was absolutely excellent! Even though there was the threat of rain, Tim still was ok with us wanting to keep our original travel date. The tour ended up being Tim, my husband, and me. Tim had taken the time to meet the locals, especially the winery owners, and is clearly on good terms with all of them. He knows the area, the wines in the area, and a lot about the history of the area.
We were able to meet one of the owners - Max. His wines are absolutely delicious and well-worth the visit!! Hearing his family’s story and his own story made our trip even more personable and memorable.
We highly recommend this tour. If any of the other guides are half as good as Tim, you will greatly enjoy your time!

Don't miss this biking excursion to the beautiful Wauchau Valley! This was one of the highlights of our 10 day trip to Eastern Europe. The 15 mile bike ride took us through some picturesque, cobble stone towns along the Danube, making a fews stops for wine tasting and lunch. Tim was a great guide, the pace very relaxed, and the scenery dreamy!

Tim was a great guide who seemed to instinctively know how to provide enough information to provide context and interest but not too much so the trip became ponderous. We thought the day was very well planned and easy. Of course, the scenery made it spectacular but the care and attention by the Vienna team made it very smooth so we could enjoy the stops and the scenery.

I would highly recommend tour for adults. Beautiful scenery. We stopped at two small family run wineries. Tasted many wonderful wines. The tour guide was very attentive and definitely made sure riders felt safe. Made sure bike and helmets fit properly. The tour was through cobbled streets with little traffic for a bit, a paved bike trail and ended on highway with fast traffic but very wide bike lane. I would not want kids on this part of the ride. Easy flat ride except for a few small inclines but you should feel comfortable on a bike around traffic and going at a decent pace. We stopped in quaint town for lunch. Nice menu selection and food was very good. You could either explore town or do a mini hike with guide to a historic building. We opted to explore and found a great homemade candy store. Sat by the Danube River and enjoyed the chocolate. It was a perfect way to see the Vienna countryside!
