The stone city of Petra was carved into Jordan’s red rock cliffs more than 2,000 years ago. Once a Roman trading stop and stronghold of the Nabataean Arab kingdom, Petra is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the world’s most iconic archaeological destinations.
Excellent trip. Jafar was our guide and did so with safety, knowledge and humour. Amazing experiences in both Petra and Wadi Rum, but we also got to see some extras. Highly recommended.
Mahmoud was a safe and punctual driver. Car was in great condition and clean. Mahmoud plays some informational videos of Petra on the drive down to Petra. Mahmoud also helps with any advice and tips on how to visit a Petra.
Our tour guide Bassil was amazing and very polite person. He contacted me via WhatsApp few days before tour start showed up at the meeting point on time. He was very patient with our small kids. He has a great knowledge about all the petra points.
Great driver, showed us the historical details about Petra, on his lap top on the way there, so that was great info, he was polite and courteous, we had ample time to see Petra, and then to Wadi Rum, rode the jeep and explore the desert, with its incredible landscape!
Great experience,
Thank you!
Amazing 2 day experience! Jam packed adventure covering Petra, Wadi Run and Dead Sea. Wadi Rum was beyond our expectations, beautiful landscapes and comfortable deluxe tents. Overall a very well organised tour with and excellent tour a guide Jafar, who was entertaining, knowledge and witty and looked after us all extremely well. Thank you Jafar See You Tomorrow!!
The overnight stay at Wadi Rum with gracious hosts, and, of course - the visit to Petra, a Cloud Nine experience by itself. Omar, our guide, went out of his way to make our trip enjoyable and memorable.
Petra, Wadi Rum jeep safari and the Dead Sea. Every experience was memorable and the accommodation was excellent as was the food. Driver was polite and punctual.
We did a 3-day trip in Ajloun, Jerash, Petra, and Wadi Rum. Highlights were: Roman ruins in Jerash and the haunting beauty of the Wadi Rum desert.
Our driver, Zakarias, was fantastic. He was prompt, polite, friendly, and funny. He regaled us with stories about Jordan's local traditions. Also shared with me a 0% alcohol beer (I think it was Heineken). We were lucky to have him as our driver!
Jafar was a great tour leader, there was no single boring moment, super well-organized and informative. We enjoyed a lot this 2 days trip, with plenty of time to check Petra, enjoy Wadi Rum, the Rea Sea and the Dead Sea. Best tour we ever had!

Jordan Private Tour and Travel took care of us from the minute we booked till the very end of our 4 day trip. Our driver Zakariya did a wonderful job to ensure we had a great time. We enjoyed every minute of all the places he took us, from Jarash, Mount Nebo, Madaba, Dead Sea, Petra, Wadi Rum and Aqaba. We can’t thank enough what Jordan had offered us…a lasting memory. Thank you Jordan, JPTT, Zakariya and Viator!
The tour was very nice. They were kind and help us adapting the schedule to our needs. Very well organized. The driver and the guide make us have a great time. We really got a good impression of Petra and Amman in just one day,
Frequently Asked QuestionsQ:What's the best way to experience Petra?
People Also AskQ:How many days do you need for Petra?
A:You need at least two days for Petra, but three or more days is even better. The site is huge, and with only a day, you may feel rushed—and you may not have time to visit the Treasury—even if you’re a fast walker.
Q:How much does it cost to go to Petra?
A:It depends. Tickets for one, two, or three days are available, and the per-day rate decreases depending on how many days you visit. Overseas visitors pay more than Jordanian nationals, and visitors on day tours from Israel pay more than those staying at least one night in Jordan.
Q:Do you need a tour in Petra?
A:No, you do not need a tour of Petra, but it’s encouraged. If you come independently and explore without a guide by your side, you’re almost guaranteed to be bothered nonstop by local guides who want to show you around, and women traveling alone should expect plenty of unasked-for attention.
Q:What is the best time of year to visit Petra Jordan?
A:The best time of year to visit Petra is in the late fall or early spring when the weather is usually pleasantly warm in the daytime. The May–September season gets too hot for some people’s comfort, while winters can be a tad chilly (but rarely unbearably cold).
Q:How long is the walk to see Petra?
A:The walk from the parking area to the Monastery of Petra takes about 20 minutes to half an hour via what’s known as the Siq, and many people enter by donkey. Once you’re at the site, expect to spend a lot of time walking from point to point.
Q:What is the best day of the week to visit Petra?
A:The best day of the week to visit Petra is either Monday, Wednesday, or Thursday. After the sun sets on these three days, the pathway leading to the site known as the Siq—and the famous monastery at the site entrance—are beautifully illuminated by candlelight.
