The R&A World Golf Museum is a must-visit for travelers to St. Andrews who want to immerse themselves in all things golf, and its proximity to the Old Course across the road makes it easy to visit before or after teeing off. The museum features on some St. Andrews tours from Edinburgh, too, many of which combine visits to golf-related hotspots and historic treasures.
Children ages 16 and under and students of all ages visit free, while adults 60 and over get discounted admission.
The museum is fully wheelchair-accessible, with an elevator connecting the main and upper floors.
Onsite facilities include a gift shop and a restaurant.
The museum is located across from St. Andrew's Old Course, about a 5-minute walk from the town center. If you're coming from Edinburgh, you can take a train to Leuchars, catch a bus, or take a taxi the rest of the way. If you have a car, park at the adjacent Bruce Embankment parking lot. Parking is free between November and March.
The museum and shop are open throughout the year, every day of the week except for select major holidays. Weekends are generally busier, so come on a weekday to miss the crowds. Note that both the museum and the shop open an hour early—and stay open an hour later—from April through the end of October.
While many people come to St. Andrews to see its famous castle and cathedral, there's plenty for golf lovers. Along with the R&A World Golf Museum, make sure to visit St. Andrews Links, home to famous courses such as the challenging Jubilee Course, the not-so-new New Course, and the celebrated Old Course, site of the iconic (to golf lovers) Swilcan Bridge.
