Visitors to Clifford’s Honey Farm can learn all about Dave and Jenny Clifford’s passion for beekeeping as they visit the world’s oldest bee sanctuary, which is home to the world’s only remaining pure-strain Ligurian bees. Discover the bees and the honey-making process as you watch the hives at work, learn all about the complex social structures and hierarchy of honeybees, and watch as the honey is collected from hives and bottled.
Of course, you’ll have a chance to sample the famous honey, as well as shop for a range of honey products at the farm-gate store, including different kinds of honey, honey-based treats and candies, and honey cosmetics.
Clifford’s Honey Farm is a great choice for a family trip and is suitable for all ages.
Foodies won’t want to miss Clifford’s Honey ice cream, a favorite among Kangaroo Islanders! Other must-tries include the Drunken Drone honey wheat ale and the Latitude 36 honey-mustard salad dressing.
There’s no admission charge to visit the farm, but advance bookings are required for large groups.
The farm is accessible for wheelchairs and strollers.
Clifford’s Honey Farm is located just outside of Haines at the eastern end of Kangaroo Island. It’s about a 40-minute drive from Penneshaw along the B23. There’s no public transportation on the island, so you’ll need your own vehicle or to join a tour.
The farm and shop are open daily year-round, from morning to the end of the workday. As with most Kangaroo Island attractions, it’s busiest during the summer months (December through February), and the small shop can quickly get crowded. Arrive early or late in the day to avoid the tour groups that pass through between 11am and 3pm.
Kangaroo Island is home to a number of artisan producers, farm shops, and cellar doors, making it the ideal place for a foodie tour. After visiting Clifford’s Honey Farm, be sure to stop by the Emu Bay Lavender Farm (with a shope and café), The Oyster Farm Shop, the Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Distillery, False Cape Wines, and Kangaroo Island Brewery. Other foodie faves include the Penneshaw Markets, held on the first Sunday of each month, and the twice-monthly Kingscote Farmers & Artisan Market.
