Lovely afternoon!
Katherine_M, May 2024
Location meet up was easy to find. Tour guide was wonderful. Time in the monastery was plenty but we didn’t do the optional add on of Black Madonna. We did a short hike which was busy even early in the morning and mostly uphill but lovely. Lunch was good and very filling. Location was unique and we would have never found it on our own and was surrounded by grape vines for wine. The cava and wine tasting was really fun. Our lunch ran a little over (not the tour guides fault or the other tourists) so we missed a small bit of the winery tour but missed none of the tasting. I felt like the guide at the winery caught us up and made us feel quite at home. We bought some wine to take back to our hotel to enjoy later and wish we could find it back in the states.
Amazing Tour
Stephanie_R, May 2024
Berta was an excellent tour guide in this small group experience. Plenty of time given to tour monestary, The Black Madonna, funicular, and shops. Montserrat is spectacular and the farmhouse lunch and vineyard tour were a lovely way to end the adventure. Would definitely recommend.
Strange weather, great guide made up for it
Chris_K, May 2024
We were fortunate to have excellent weather throughout our trip, except for the day of the Monserrat trip. Rain and the micro-climate of Monserrat created a foggy day. Our guide, Nuria made up for it with an amazing trip. There was some confusion between Viator and the tour company, ‘Explore Catalunya’. Credit to Explore Catalunya, for honoring the promised tour, which led Nuria to be our exclusive guide. She was extremely knowledgeable, but also great to have a conversation with on many topics in Spain. This trip has changed since we originally booked, but the Monserrat + Farm House Lunch + Winery Tour was a fantastic day. We had several day trips during 12 days in Spain. This trip was very close to the top, only bested by Alhambra. Great job Nuria!
Tour operator charged us extra for what was included on Viator booking
Scott_P, Apr 2024
When I booked this tour it included going inside the basilica to see the black Madonna but when we got to the tour operator they said they’ve recently changed the terms and they charge extra for that and charged us 30 extra euros
Response from Host, May 2024
Hello, I am sorry that you did not see the notes before you booked this tour that explains that we do not include the entrance to see the Black Madonna. Not everybody wants to see the statue, which is why we have not included this in the price. Best regards, Robert
Long day- highlights the funicular views, and wine tasting.
Sacha_T, Apr 2024
The farmhouse lunch was not exactly as we pictured it - though it was at a local area restaurant ( a bit too far from Montserrat), the pork was actually pork hocks with little meat so a proper menu with actual choices described would be better. The winery tour was very good along with charcuterie /tasting and Adrian was a great story teller. The food with tasting was very welcome. Our driver/ tour guide was scary to watch but we didn’t have an accident luckily. We arrived at their office at 8am as requested but were not dropped off until almost 7pm. It was way too long a day for anyone. Our entire group agreed.
A must do!!
Teresa_L, Apr 2024
This was a must do during our trip to Spain. We met our guides, Xavier and Xavier, at the meeting spot (super easy to find) , then drove in a super clean van to Montserrat with Xavier pointing out different landmarks along the way. Montserrat was beautiful and we were able to see the Black Madonna . We decided to take the tram to the top of Montserrat and then walk to the cross and down, but sadly, the trail wasn’t clearly marked, so we we continued walking down the hill and never saw it. In hindsight, we should’ve walked to the cross from the bottom of Montserrat and back, and then explored the are. Going up the tram really wasn’t a good use of our time, and I don’t feel the views were really any better than from the base. After seeing the BlackMadonna, we had a wonderful lunch at an old farmhouse and then wine tasting at an organic winery. It was the perfect trip !!!
Very rushed tour.
Michael_B, Mar 2024
Overall the tour seemed very rushed. Although Monserrat was extremely beautiful, we feel we did not get enough time to fully enjoy our time there. Once we took the funicular up to the top we only had a very short time to walk around. Not even enough time to go to St. Michael's cross. We, along with the others on our tour, also purchased tickets to see the Black Madonna and again, doing this made our lunch rushed. Food was average at best. Farmhouse lunch felt like a roadside restaurant. Winery was last. We didn't have time to tour the winery and cellar. We made it in time to only get the tastings. Very dissappointed.
Fabulous!
Elizabeth_S, Feb 2024
This was a fabulous side trip from Barcelona to Montserrat. Such a beautiful place! Sergio was incredibly knowledgeable and made the day a lot of fun. We also visited a winery after having a delicious lunch. Everything really great. Highly recommend.
Would do it again
Julie_L, Jan 2024
This tour was great. Montserrat was beautiful. Sergio was knowledgeable and made great recommendations even after the tour.
Bang for your Buck
JAMES_M, Jan 2024
Sergio is a great guide! Once we arrived at Montserrat he gave the group an overview of the area, a tour through the monastery, and several options during the free time. This tour is good because, since it’s with a group it’s less expensive than other tours. However since there is free time you’re not obligated to do what others want. My group had people of different fitness levels so some stayed close to the monastery and museum while others went hiking to see amazing views. At first I was worried about what to do during the free time but Sergio gave recommendations based on your interests and activity level. There is only one winery on the tour but it’s beautiful and the pours are very generous.
Monastery + Wine in a Day: Perfect Daytour Outside Barcelona
Bettina_T, Jan 2024
Day well spent outsode of Barcelona. Montserrat was mystical & stunning! The views were absolutely breathtaking. The organic wine tour was a nice way to end the day. Tour was well organised — from meeting point, drive, stops. Sergio provided clear overview of what would happen throughout the day. He provided excellent information throughout the trip showing immense knowledge of places visited (Monserrat & wine land) as well as Barcelona. He is quite personable and showed great concern for the small group. I appreciated that he gave us ample time to explore Montserrat the way we wanted. Sergio is a great guide with freat balance of sense of humor + providing insightful and helpful information about the sites and Barcelona in general. i would definitely recommend this tour via Explore Catalunya and bonus if you get SERGIO as a guide…. He is amazing and you are definitely in good hands!!! Bravo!!!
A Must in Barcelona!
Myrna_L, Jan 2024
We had an amazing experience thanks to Sergio's welcoming personality and the beauty of both venues visited. The weather was cold but awesome for breathtaking views in Monserrate. The wine tasting experience was also a delight.
Great value for a lovely day
Cristan_F, Oct 2023
Ludo drove me and three others in a comfortable car to the destinations. She was mindful of mobility limitations in our group. She knew a lot and was pleasant to talk to. Montserrat was lovely — if you’re able, the somewhat steep walk up to the cross is worth it for the view. The winery was a great addition—beautiful grounds and a really interesting tour (and of course, good wine). I was traveling solo and felt 100% comfortable.
A must see Tour
Janice_C, May 2023
Excellent tour with Xavier. Lots to see. We enjoyed see The Black Madonna. The wine tour was small and private. It was great.
Wonderful day trip! Book it!
Jason_B, May 2023
This was an awesome tour with Ludovica. Much easier and pleasant experience of Montserrat than going on your own. I highly recommend this tour.
Best of Day Trip for a Curious Couple
Paige_C, Mar 2023
10/10 I m still thinking about this a year later. My hubby and I learned so much from our guide and the winery was beautiful!! And you don't have to so any legwork and you can sleep on the bus on the way back. Just enough time at both spots!
Great experience
Emilia_J, Nov 2022
The walking paths and views from Montserrat were awesome. The winery was really interesting and the tasting was great fun. Our guide and all staff we encountered were kind and knowledgeable. Definitely worth the trip!
Great day with great experiences
Taylor_E, Oct 2022
Such a fantastic day! If you want to see inside make sure you buy tickets for the choir and black Madonna. We bought them right at the tour office. I definitely think it was worth it!
Majestic Mountains and Canada! DO IT!
Karen_T, Sep 2022
This is a wonderful tour! Rod was our expert guide - he was both very informative and a pleasure to meet. The monastery is set in the beautiful picturesque mountains and it is a beautiful cathedral with an opportunityto see the Black Madonna and boys choir - do both! The visit to taste cava was also fantastic! Don't miss this one!
Well worth the trip
Melanie_E, Aug 2022
We loved the tour! First, our tour guide, Xavier was fantastic - fun, personable, knowledgeable. He really made the trip. Second, both Montserrat & Peres Balta were well worth the trip. Do everything they recommend at Monserrat - take the tram up, hike down, see the Black Virgin, tour the museum, and eat the local cheeses & honey from the tent vendors- all were fantastic. Peres Balta is a beautiful vineyard. They embrace the history & heritage, while also using amazing, cutting edge viniculture. The tour and seated wine tasting were just lovely. We highly recommend this your, especially if you can get Xavier.
