Fantastic Tour

We got all the history behind the San Felipe and the Pope Convent. The trek to the top of the castle was worth it even in the heat. Lunch at San Nicholas in Getsemaní was fantastic, food great, ambience wonderful and live music to top it off. I didn’t get to walk in Getsemani and Walled City as it was 4pm already and I had a 5 year old with me on this long day. Thankfully we did that a few days before on our own but I wished we got to do that to end off the tour.

The Best of Cartagena

This was a great tour. Marco was very knowledgable. There was a lot of walking so plan on wearing comfortable shoes. I recommend taking this tour if you want to see the best of Cartagena.

Fabian was our tour guide, he did a wonderful job of navigating us through streets, tunnels, traffic and sidewalks! You must have your camera ready on this tour, there are so many jaw dropping murals throughout the tour. We even saw one inspired by Encanto!!! Yes, I would do this again just to see the tunnels and walk the streets early in the morning. Such a beautiful city with a rich history and culture. Take water and wear comfortable shoes, as there is some inclines to overcome.

The first nightmare was finding our guide. We went all the way from the ship to the Taxi area and back to the ship and back to the Taxi area because we got 15 different stories of where to meet our guide from everyone we asked. Our paperwork said we would be picked up at the ship and it also said we would be met at the end of the pier. we did not have cell service on the ship which made it incredibly difficult to communicate without clear instructions. our guide spoke English, but had an extremely heavy accent, which made it difficult to understand. It was hard to believe that he tutored English! He seemed to know a lot of facts, but it was easier to read the signs at the fort, then to try to understand what he said. The walk-through old town was quite hazardous with broken sidewalks and holes and car zipping down through where we walked. Don’t do this if you have any walking challenges.

First of all, we understand that the exit of the port is usually a crowded place and it can be confusing to locate oneself at the beginning, but that is the reason why we always suggest our tourists use Whatsapp as the main means of communication because our tour guide sends you the exact location where you should meet when at the port. Asking to other people is not that useful as there are many tour guides from other companies that can be located in different places. Constant communication with your tour guide is key to not have this type of experience. Secondly, Cartagena Walled City streets are narrow and as they remain with the colonial architecture, it happens that some stones are broken. But that is something that is out of our control and it belongs to the original paving. And lastly, we are careful with the selection of our guides and we are sure they have the knowledge and language skills to carry out these services. We know accents are sometimes part of the way of speaking of people, but we'll make sure to advise our guide so he is more aware of his communication. Kind regards Hola, Alan. En primer lugar, entendemos que la salida del puerto suele ser un lugar muy concurrido y puede ser confuso ubicarse al principio, pero esa es la razón por la que siempre sugerimos a nuestros turistas que utilicen Whatsapp como principal medio de comunicación para que puedan recibir la ubicación exacta donde nuestros guías les esperan cuando estén en el puerto. Preguntar a otras personas no es tan útil ya que hay muchos guías turísticos de otras empresas que pueden estar ubicados en diferentes lugares. La comunicación constante con tu guía turístico es clave para no tener este tipo de experiencias. En segundo lugar, las calles de la Ciudad Amurallada de Cartagena son angostas y como permanecen con la arquitectura colonial, sucede que algunas piedras están rotas. Pero eso es algo que está fuera de nuestro control y pertenece al pavimento original. Y por último, somos cuidadosos con la selección de nuestros guías y estamos seguros de que tienen los conocimientos y las habilidades lingüísticas para llevar a cabo estos servicios. Sabemos que los acentos a veces forman parte de la forma de hablar de la gente, pero nos aseguraremos de asesorar a nuestro guía para que sea más consciente de su comunicación. Saludos cordiales

Our tour guide Nicanor is excellent very patient and done his job above and beyond. He took care of customers well. Some tour guides just work for money and want to get it done. Nicanor Velasquez is one of the rare best tour guide and done great job. Will fully recommend him.

My guide Jhon, met me on time and was knowledgeable throughout the tour. I saw many lovely sights and enjoyed the intro to Cartagena. The problem was at the 2.23 hour mark, he told me the tour was over. I pulled out my confirmation that said 5-7 hr tour, w conflicting reference to whether Popa Convent was included. One place said optional, another place said ticket included. So I asked to go to the site since we had plenty of time for the 5 hr window. He declined, contacted the agency who also declined. I kept saying this is to be a 5-7 hr tour. He offered to let Me stay in town and continue to wander myself but we had seen everything on the ‘included’ list (except Popa Convent!) and the tour was ended. I was stunned. I was solo and he said I just didn’t take the same time as a group. In all the years of using Viator, this has never happened. I registered as a solo, and never was the length of the tour adjusted. The agency knew it was one person, and Jhony had full control of our pace and activity. Singles, beware!!

On the one hand, just as the description of the tour and the rates of the booking show the tour takes from 5 to 7 hours depending on the option you chose. In this case, you took the 5-hour option (not the 7-hour), which did not include La Popa Convent. Our team and our tour guide explained these before the service so there were no misunderstandings. On the other hand, the itineraries of our tours explain that the transfers from the lodgings to the places you visit on the tour are included. You did finish the tour ahead of time but the entire tour did not last only 2 hours but longer. However, we talked directly to the guide to prevent these things from happening again. We're sorry it didn't fulfill your expectations. We'll keep working to improve our services from beginning to end. Sentimos mucho las molestias ocasionadas durante este tour. Por otro lado, en los itinerarios de nuestros tours se explica que los traslados desde los alojamientos a los lugares que se visitan en el tour están incluidos. El tour terminó antes de tiempo pero el tour completo no duró sólo 2 horas sino más, ya que incluía el tiempo de traslado. No obstante, hablamos directamente con el guía para evitar que estas cosas volvieran a ocurrir. Sentimos que no cumpliera tus expectativas. Seguiremos trabajando para mejorar nuestros servicios de principio a fin.

Not as expected.

The description of this tour is great, but our guide cut the tour short because she wanted us to go to a store she works at. A 5-6 hour tour ended up being only 4 hours including the stop at her store. She left several stops out of the tour. We chose this tour for our group because it has all the stops we wanted and we wouldn’t be rushed, but it was not that way. Our driver was excellent.

Touring Cartagena with a local makes an amazing difference!

I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Cartagena. The tour impressed me most due to our amazing guide Nica Velasquez and our driver Cesar Ospino. Together, they toured myself and my two sisters around to help celebrate my sister's 60th birthday. Nica is a great historian and he makes Cartagena's history relevant and interesting. I enjoyed touring the special tunnels at San Felipe Castle, visiting the Popa Convent and the colorful, art filled and music filled streets of Cartagena. Nica gave us an insider view and made amazing recommendations for the rest of our trip. He even brought us to a local grocery store to help us buy local coffee and rum to bring back home. I highly recommend this tour and would highly recommend Nica Valesquez! Thank you Nica and Cesar!

Our tour of the Walled City was fantastic. I toured with my husband and two friends. Total 4 adults. Our tour guide ( Fabian) pick us up at the hotel on time. He also returned us to the hotel when the tour was completed. He was courteous, professional and friendly. He provided a detailed history of Colombia while in the car. Also, he also gave us a detailed history of all the sights we visited while walking.. We never felt rushed. Awesome experience.

Terminal exit is confusing

Never found the driver. Terminal exit is very confusing. I went to three different exits and he wasn't at any of them. Searched for an hour and gave up.

This was a wonderful tour of Cartagena Gustavo was our tour guide, and he was incredibly knowledgeable, patient with all of our questions, gave us recommendations before and after the tour and gave us so much more appreciation for our first trip to Cartagena that we would love to come back in the future. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Cartagena! Our tour guide Raul was amazing! He is very knowledgeable on the history of Cartagena and will answer any questions you have! The communication throughout was great. We got picked up from our hotel which was a plus! One thing I will say though, is be ready to walk! Walking through the city is beautiful! I would definitely book this tour again when revisiting Cartagena!

Disappointing experience, waste of time

It was most disappointing experience during our stay in Columbia. The tour last 4 instead 6 hours we paid for. We did not visits the at least 3 of major tourist attractions such as shoes monument, San Pedro clever cathedral and plaza Santo Domingo. The guid was not able to answer most of our questions regarding old city. But the worse part of the experience was the guide give us free roaming time that we was not asked or needed and fails to be in a meetings spot he set up for us. After 25 minutes looking for him we found him in the different spot. And it was very upsetting for friend and I We only had one day in Cartagena and time was very valuable
