Hands down this was the highlight of our entire trip. Jackie the cooking instructor was FANTASTIC. She made it such a memorable experience for everyone in our group including the two Little’s we had with us (ages 4 and 8). She has an incredible passion for what she does and it made for a wonderful time. The salsa and guac 🥑 were delish and the hand made blue corn tortillas were to die for! Thank you Jackie, you have a gift and we are so grateful to have met you!

    Salsa excursion
    Marissa_D, Apr 2024
My husband and I had a great time learning how to make authentic Mexican salsa and guacamole at Catrina Restaurant. The staff were so accommodating and made sure we were enjoying ourselves. There was open bar at the restaurant and the drinks were excellent! We also sampled mezcal while at restaurant. Afterwards we learned how to salsa dance on the beach which was very fun. I highly recommend this excursion. We had a great time!
    Tasty sala class.

    Worms snd crickets
    David_K, Mar 2024
The salsa and guacamole demonstration was interesting and fun. Open bar was a plus. Sampling of mezcal with salt made from worms, and the dried crickets for a chaser was a unique experience. The beach area was OK. The salsa dance lesson was not well done. I don’t think they were prepared to teach us.
    Amazing!

There were 7 ships in Costa Maya when we were there and if you’ve been there, you know that’s never good. This excursion took us to a secluded beach which was beautiful! It wasn’t crowded and the drinks were amazing. There was an open bar and the drinks were great too. The food was SO GOOD! We can’t wait to go home and make salsa and guac. We also got a massage (not included)
    Super Fun

Super friendly staff. Jackie was such a pleasure to learn salsa and guac making. She is very mindful of clean utensils and hands. We had interesting chats and lots of laughs.
    Great fun & great value!

Jacqui welcomed us into her tent on the beach and we had a great hour with her making salsa and guacamole with homemade tortilla chips and fresh warm tortillas. We loved her stories about living in Mahahual and being a female small business owner. We salsa'ed to great music on the beach! We walked & shopped on the "boardwalk" & didn't use the beach.
    Guac-Amazing & Marg-ariffic!

Jackie is AWESOME. She adds the personal touch that you don't get from so many of the Cruise excursions. Best excursion on Costa Maya. Get off the boat, out of port and have the best Guac & Tamarind Marg ever!
Learning was delicious! Beautiful beach included!
    Amy_W, Feb 2024
Highly recommend! Easy walk to Catrina restaurant from the port. Host talked about the town's history while she guided us on making guacamole, roasted salsa and peanut salsa. Served us the most amazing margaritas! And al pastor tacos. Then frozen tamarind and Hibiscus margaritas. It was all so incredibly delicious! She then called us a taxi (included in price) to head to the beach. It was a small restaurant with modest restrooms on a beautiful beach. We had a few drinks (included in price) and enjoyed the sun and water. We also paid $25 ea for a massage on the beach. When we decided to leave they escorted us to taxis and got us a driver. We paid $4/pp to return to port. We loved it all so much, we'll go back again!
Great Time Making Guacamole and Salsa

The lady that greeted us and showed us how to make the guacamole and salsa was extremely friendly and patient with us. She showed us how to pick an avocado, how to slice it properly, etc. it was tremendous fun.
    Salsa, Sun and Fun!!

This was a fun way to add a little more variety to a day at the beach. The hardest part was finding our way OUT of the Costa Maya shopping port area- but once we got to an exit, it was about a 5 minute walk to the meeting place. Bottled water and transportation was provided and we were brought to meet Jackie- who was very efficient and a great hostess to us for the day! You can see in my picture that a nice little area was set up with all the ingredients for our salsa and guac experience. Drinks were readily made available and we had a fun time preparing and eating our salsa, guac and chips. After the cooking class, Jackie provided us with beach chairs. And even though it was a crowded day (lots of cruise ships) I had a nice, shaded area as requested. Drinks were available for 2 hours. There are a lot of vendors who come through the area trying to sell you stuff. But no one was overly pushy. My husband and I did both get a beach side massage (extra cost). You can see the tables in the pictures. They were good and relaxing massages- especially for the low price. My tip would to bring a lot of cash as there is plenty of opportunity to spend it. We had use of a bathroom the entire time. And- when it was time to arrange for our own ride back to ship- Jackie assisted again and advised exactly what we should pay. If you are open to a little adventure and looking for a good deal, then this is worth it. If you are a "Ritz Carlton" personality- then this may not be right for you. We all loved it - two 55 year old adults traveling with a 22 year old son. I would recommend to a friend and I would do this again!
    Fun and delicious

Jackie and her team were amazing!!! They gave us such a wonderful experience!! The salsa and guac we made were so fresh and delicious! Complimentary food and drinks. Vegan-friendly (just ask) and great smoothies. Gorgeous beach with loungers and sheltered bed! Salsa dancing on the beach was so fun, and the teacher was very patient! Our favorite excursion!!!
Fun for the day making and dancing Salsa
    Warren_P, Nov 2023
My wife and I were on a cruise and chose this excursion for the day and had a wonderful time learning to make Salsa, and then having drinks on the beach learning to Salsa dance. Experience was a lot of fun for the day.
One of the best and most unique activities we had on our cruise.
    Chad_K, Oct 2023
A great time! Made salsa and guacamole. Learned some Salsa dance moves. Nice beach. Massage. All good.

    Salsa and ceviche experience
    Chad_S, Jun 2023
I highly recommend this. The beach area was very rustic so don’t expect anything luxurious. The servers at the beach area were very friendly. Bring cash to tip them. We did not get a chance to salsa dance but did not want to after eating all of the yummy food.
