Overview

This two-part tour includes snorkeling along Mexico’s Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System, also known as the Great Mayan Reef. Spanning more than 620 miles (1,000 kilometers) from the Yucatan Peninsula to Honduras, the reef is the second largest in the word. See tropical fish and colorful underwater life, then relax at a beach club with snacks and an open bar.

For a full refund, you must cancel at least 24 hours before the experience’s start time.
If you cancel less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time, the amount you paid will not be refunded.
Any changes made less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time will not be accepted.

Cut-off times are based on the experience’s local time.

We had a great time snorkeling and got to see a turtle! The guide was very observant and spotted a camouflaged stingray too. After snorkeling the beach time was great with good service, a quite beach, and good drinks. It ended up raining so they took us into their restaurant, but the staff made the best of it by being very hospitable and gave free mini massages and had and impromptu Mexican dance party. They even sold us a custom made shot glass with a picture of our group on it. Overall it was a great experience.

NEVER found the pick up point! Attempts to contact only resulted in repeated instructions of pick up.

Good but could have saved on taxi if we had proper communication.

The actual tour was great and had a great time at the open bar. There was major miscommunication in which we were suppose to meet at s different location than on the ticket where taxi world have been provided outside of Port. Instead it cost us $8 each way to get to meeting point.

Viator should not promote this excursion. The description on how to get to the meeting point is very vague. The address, of course, was in Spanish. So, we asked 5-6 people to help us find the meeting point. Everyone told us something different and sent us in different directions. This included 2 cab drivers. We walked for over an hour in 100-degree heat. Finally, a cab driver recognized the address. It led us to a restaurant! No where in the directions did it say it was a restaurant. Anyhow, the restaurant employees arranged transportation for us to the beach. When we arrived, it was shocking to see a boat barely bigger than a small fishing boat. There were 2 young men to take us out. Neither one spoke any English. They could not understand that 2 of the people on the boat still needed life jackets. Somehow, we all got ready to go into the water. The "guide" seemed to be a teenager. He did not do much in his role as guide other than continually dive under the water entertaining himself. The driver of the boat lost eye contact with us. He had to continually drive the boat around looking for us so he could pick us up. We were very far away at that point. The beach part of the activity was disappointing. The beach is dirty, and the swimming area is small and dirty also. Each of us were supposed to get nachos as a snack. It was included in the price. We received 2 orders and waited for the next 2 for one hour. It was a very frustrating day.

It was a very nice place to hang out at the beach. The solicitors are a bit much but that is how so many make money so we just said “no thank you.” They left us alone after that.

Unfortunately we were unable to do the snorkling as the wind was”in the wrong direction” so it worked out a very expensive lie on the beach and swim at LaChilangaloense beach club

Snorkeling, shopping, and relaxing

The area we hung out at at the beach was a very small space but we were with all our friends and family and we each had our own longing chair. It did not take away from our experience. The people who provided our snack (onion rings, French fries, or nachos) and all the drinks we wanted while we were there were extremely kind and accommodating . The snorkeling was good. There was not a whole lot to see snorkeling in my opinion but we did see a large sea turtle, a baby sea turtle, and a large stingray and that made it amazing for me. I loved the location we were in. There was a long row of shopping starting where we were and it went about 200 yards. We had teenagers with us and we felt they were completely safe walking up and down this on their own. While on this excursion, I also got a massage on the beach… great experience ($22 for 30 min). I would absolutely recommend this excursion!!!!!

The overall experience was great. What I did not like is each piece is handled by a separate party and all was misguided. First stop was a restaurant and they were kind to offer a refreshment of water and or beer. Then we needed 2 taxis and they tried to charge us for the taxi ride, then the beach site wanted to provide snorkeling gear without a boat and I insisted that it was included. Boat crew did a great job of getting us over the reef for great viewing. Alcohol was for 1 hour only, and food was for one snack only per passenger. The authentic chips and salsa was amazing. The bar staff was great none the less. Just not happy when they cut us off.

The company sent us directions before we left for the cruise which was good, but the long distance from the ship to the meetup place was too far for older people to walk. Plus, the taxi back was very expensive and the snacks were minimal for the time we were there. I won't do it again.

Jeeps were fun, beach area was beautiful, but the food and drinks were not included. It rained so we didn't get to see the Mayan ruins or the crocodiles, which was a bummer since we booked this specifically for the ruins....

Not what I was expecting. It’s not what I consider a “beach club” … it was a beach stall with old loungers along a strip of other beach stalls Facilities were very old. The owner/workers were very nice though and tried to make it as enjoyable as possible even though the weather wasn’t cooperating.

Fantastic time, still waiting on our pictures from the snorkeling but other than that our guide was extremely knowledgeable. The snacks and drinks on the beach were delicious!

Snorkeling was good. The guides were good/friendly and took underwater photos of us snorkeling and then emailed them to us at no cost. Got some good photos which was a nice plus. Main complaint was with the beach portion. When we got back to beach club the waitress told us that the excursion only included drinks and chips/salsa. She claimed lunch was not included in the snorkeling version of this excursion (they also have a beach only version). I told them I read that lunch was also included (see above). She said no I misunderstood. I insisted I read it correctly. After going back to talk with manager she insisted I was mistaken but relented when I continued to assert that I read the description correctly. So even though they honored what was promised I let this argument spoil the outing. I felt they thought I was getting one over on them, and I got the impression they were trying to gas light me. So, if you purchase this excursion, be sure to print out the full description. The drinks portion consisted of beers, and frozen drinks. The frozen margueritas were good. The pina coladas, imho, not so much, very watery coconut milk, no taste of rum. The beach club, like several in Costa Maya, consists of a small staked-out portion of beach, some chairs and a covered sitting area. Very small, but I think, typical for this portion of Costa Maya so I knew what to expect. There is a constant stream of vendors that approach you so if that is bothersome to you take note. They were friendly and not insistent when told no thank-you. The cost includes a taxi ride to the beach, but you are responsible for the taxi cost back to pier. They will situate you with a taxi back to the pier.
