Giant Causeway trip highly recommended
Tom_P, Apr 2024
Our guide was awesome. The paddy wagon bus was comfortable which was important as it is a long ride. The giant causeway was beautiful and so worth the long ride. Recommend this trip as a must do when in Ireland.
Visiting Ireland for the first time

Ireland is beatiful, and we were lucky to have a sunny day! Thank you so much the driver was really nice and fun.
Causeway
Matt_M, Apr 2024
Awesome tour driver. He had great stories and knowledge to share. Would recommend this tour to anyone. I would take off the Dark Hedges tour and add something else to it or more time in Belfast.
Really nice
Jennifer_M, Apr 2024
We had a really good time but waiting on the bus over a hour throughout the day on late people. And they didn’t drop us back off where the drop off location said.
Most do for any visit to Ireland.
Daniel_C, Apr 2024
The Giants Causeway was as spectacular as expected. Our driver/guide (Shay) was excellent despite having to deal with some mishaps along the way. (Guests not following directions and a young man having a bad stomache). Dunluce castle was striking if a bit blustery. Probably could have done without the dark hedges (lovely trees but I was a bit done with walking at that point) We had a quick "Chevy chase" stop in Belfast and then headed home.
Richard O’Brien was the best guide!
Brenda_H, Apr 2024
Richard O’Brien was our guide and he was fantastic!! I would highly recommend him to anyone looking to do a tour to ANYWHERE in Ireland.
Richard was amazing
Mel_K, Apr 2024
Richard was fun, entertaining, knowledgeable, and made the entire experience so much more immersive with his stories and his wit. :)
Surreal/ Beautiful trip 🫶🏼

This was our first time to Ireland, did not disappoint, amazing views, amazing history, definitely some great pics.
Go for the Causeway, not for the politics
James_S, Mar 2024
Never saw Game Of Thrones so it didn’t really matter to me. The castle was nice just on its own. The Causeway was certainly the jewel of the trip. Due to park rules, we could only spend 90 minutes there but thought it was adequate. Our guide Paul was okay, but be forewarned that as he calls himself proud Irishman, which is fine, his history comes with a decidedly political slant that those not Catholic or secular may find offensive. It would be best if he read the room a little better.
Wild windy and wonderful
ChiTing_H, Mar 2024
Great tour of the Irish northern coast. It’s windy up north, so make sure to dress warm and tie your hair back. But beautiful scenery, good information and scheduling from the guide.
Fantastic Trip!
cmdaleyphoto, Mar 2024
This trip is fantastic! Go! Our guide Alex gave a fascinating and in-depth talk about the history of Ireland while deftly driving the bus, as well as discussions about each stop. We had a stop at the Dark Hedges, which for the Game of Throne fans is iconic, and then on to Dun Luce (sp?) Castle, which is precarious perched on the cliffs and has quite a few Irish yarns about the portion that tumbled into the sea. Which is true? You pick! Then onto the main event: The Giants Causeway! I recommend going straight to the formation so as to enjoy the setting and not feel rushed. If you enjoy rushing about, go ahead and take the high road and scramble over to the “Organ” and the “Amphitheater.” Bit, you will have to hustle! We did the scramble since we like that, and we were rewarded by the sheep at the end. Very peaceful and pastoral. Then onto a delicious lunch at the pub. Can’t remember the name, but the front door is made from one of the trees from Dark Hedges and has significance for the Game of Thrones fans. The workmanship is remarkable in any case. Then onto Belfast. We decided to take it easy and went for a pint at the historic the Crown liquor bar and salon. Everyone nodded off on the drive back for a bit which nice.
Mystical Ireland
Zelkida_A, Jan 2024
Visiting Ireland was mystical! It is a beautiful country and its people are wonderful. It’s been one of my best trips ever!
Giant’s causeway on December 26th
Manuel_F, Dec 2023
Giant’s causeway site is exceptional but the stop is really short and we were not able to see both part of the site. Lunch was supposed to be included as well as a castle visit but, as we chose December 26th for the day trip, everything was closed. So we had to buy food and to skip the castle visit. Instead we had a stop in Belfast.
Sightseeing, Inappropriate Driver, and Stories of Violence
Daniel_K, Nov 2023
This review reflects my own experience. You may have a very different experience with a different driver/guide. Let me start with what went well. The stops on the Paddywagon Tours Giant's Causeway tour were great. Dunluce Castle and the Giant's Causeway were fun. It was windy but not too cold and wet. If you dressed to be outside, you had a great time. The Dark Hedges was disappointing, but they are old trees and seem to be dying. The road was closed, and there was a crew removing several of the trees. We visited in November, so the trees had no leaves. If the Dark Hedges was the thing you wanted to see, you were in for a disappointment. Our final stop was in Belfast, and we parked right across the street from the Christmas Market. It was a great way to end the tour. The driver was friendly but talked too much and, at times, was inappropriate. Given the early pick-up time (7:20 a.m.) and the length of the day (12+ hours), I wished he talked less and gave us more quiet time. He talked for hours throughout the day. Some of it was interesting, and some of it was unnecessary (the price of sheep, cows, and horses in the various areas we drove through). Some of it was strange, and I’m unsure why he brought it up. Almost an hour after we departed from Dublin, he played a prank on us by saying that we needed to get our passports out for passport screening at the border with Northern Ireland. There was no mention of needing passports in any of the promotional materials or information sent to us by Paddywagon Tours. Most of the passengers on the bus were foreign tourists, and many became alarmed and thought they would be turned away at the border because they didn’t have their passports with them. After a few minutes, the driver let us know that he was kidding and having “a bit of craic” (a bit of fun) with us. There was no check at the border, and we did not need our passports for a day trip to Northern Ireland. He then spent the next hour or two telling us stories about terrible things that happened at the border. People were strip-searched at gunpoint by the army, put in jail for not having passports when they traveled in Northern Ireland, as well as stories of the pre-1990s violence between Protestants and Catholics. He passed around a book of photos showing the violence, bombings, and masked gunmen in the towns we were about to visit. He talked about his experiences, including being trained to shoot by U.S. Navy Seals. I couldn’t tell if he supported a particular cause or just telling stories. He let us know that the IRA is alive and well and still active. He pointed out houses where you could tell IRA supporters based on their house decorations, displaying a certain flag, etc. In fairness, he talked much less on the drive back from Belfast, but he decided to play the same inappropriate “get out your passports” prank at the Republic of Ireland border. I understand that he was trying to give us the larger, recent history of the country. Ireland is not just a place of pretty sights to see but a country with people who experienced significant trauma and tragedy. However, that wasn’t what I expected or felt I paid for. Nearly all of it was unnecessary and turned the trip into something else. We arrived back in Dublin on one of its most violent nights in decades. There was a demonstration (riot?) near our drop-off point. The police had blocked off streets, and several stores and vehicles (police car, bus, tram) had been set on fire. Traffic was gridlocked, and public transportation had been shut down in central Dublin. The driver wanted to get us as close as possible to the original drop-off point, but some passengers asked to be let out where we were rather than get closer to the conflict. All of the passengers got off the bus at that point. It was a surreal end to a day of stories of conflict and violence in Ireland.
Great day trip tour
Amanda_M, Nov 2023
I picked up this tour spur of the moment while in Dublin and I’m very glad I did. The weather was perfect and the giant’s causeway was an incredible sight. The walk to and from the causeway was a nice hike, and I suggest anyone who goes to wear solid anti slip shoes as the rocks become wet. We had lunch in a great little pub after, with ties to the Game of Thrones series. Brian was very spirited and gave a lot of political context for historical events in Ireland and cracked a lot of jokes. The dark hedges were a bit disappointing, but expected with the health of the trees declining.
Giants Causeway is a must to see!!!
Lesley_H, Nov 2023
We loved John. He was the best guide ever. So interested in sharing information with us and making us feel comfortable and at home. The Giants Causeway was amazing and so was the Burren. We loved it all. Never let John go ….. he is just awesome
Giants Causeway was wonderful
Paul_Z, Sep 2023
Alex the bus driver and tour guide was terrific. He was witty, knowledgeable, and welcoming. The Giants Causeway was great. We would have skipped Dark Hedges and Dunluce castle and spent more time at the Causeway and in Belfast.
A full day of exciting sights.
Linda_B, Sep 2023
Enjoyed Rory's personal stories about the places we visited. He also provided helpful hints for seeing as much as possible at each stop. I was focused on seeing the Giant's Causeway so I was pleasantly surprised to stop at more sites than I expected. It did have a slow start and people were beginning to think they had been forgotten, as all the other tour groups had been collected by their guides. But Rory was a ball of energy and we had a great time with him all day.
A great day end-to-end
Ron_L, Sep 2023
Loved the entire day, from Dunluce Castle to the Giants Causeway, to a wonderful lunch and then the Dark Hedges and then Belfast. John was an informative and entertaining personality that really kept the group engaged the entire day. We would recommend this to anybody.
Just do it!
Serina_C, Sep 2023
I'm so glad we did this tour out of Dublin. There were so many great facets of this tour. Our guide, Frank, regaled us with stories of the separation and political challenges of the north, so we got great history. The giants causeways was unique. And our driver also arranged for some of us to take a black taxi tour of Belfast which was incredible. They brought us to the wall that still separated the Catholic from protestant sections of town. They told personal stories of the troubles, and talked about how much has changed here since the peace agreement in 1998. It was an amazing experience. Wear shoes with good soles on this tour. The rocks at the causeways are slippery. I recommend getting the audio tour from the visitor center. Also, the shuttle up from the bottom is worth it!
