6,466 reviews

Dating back to 800 AD, the illuminated manuscript known as the Book of Kells is renowned for its extraordinary illustrations and ornamentations. Its intricate drawings incorporating Celtic and Christian traditions are a testament to the incredible craftsmanship of the medieval Irish monks believed to have created it while on the remote island of Iona in Scotland. Despite Viking raids, theft, and fights between various Irish and English factions, 680 astonishingly detailed vellum (calf-skin) pages of Latin text remain intact.

A Must Do Tour
Brian was an amazing tour guide! He knew so much about Ireland’s history and answered all of our questions. He shared information in a storytelling way that held our attention. He got us safely and timely through Dublin. We really enjoyed the Book of Kells, Long Room, Dublin Castle, St Patrick’s Cathedral, Teeling Distillery, and Guinness. What an incredibly fun filled and interesting day!

Great walking tour
Learning about and seeing the Book of Kells was an amazing experience. The history of The Book was one I didn't know about before the tour; I'm significantly more informed now. The old world charm of the Library Long Room can't be overstated. Seeing the Gaia exhibit, floating above the central hall of the Long Room was simply breathtaking. But the best part of tour was our guide, Teresa. She was amazing, providing a rich verbal history of Ireland in a short amount of time.
