Kiri was a terrific tour guide and went above and beyond to make us all comfortable and to be sure we were enjoying ourselves. He shared so much information about Tokyo, the culture, shopping and the best part, of course, was the food! He was so knowledgeable and took us to such fun places. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone looking to get the flavor of Tokyo! Thank you Kiri!

Tasting Tokyo the right way.
Urmi_N, Apr 2024
Yuko was a very good guide, she not only enlightened us but also made our movement from one area to another very smooth. We started our Tokyo tour with this culinary trip to utilise the half day we had in hand.It turned out to be a delightful experience that introduced us to the city with a local,it's food and it's soul. Unforgettable.
Tokyo after 5 but no Culinary Delights
Hans_B, Apr 2024
Overpriced and disappointing! (½ * out of 5!) The group of 6 persons started the tour after waiting 20 minutes (2 people missing). We began our tour at a food department at Mitsukoshi. The guide hurried ahead and we all tried to follow. (It was the group members that made sure that nobody was separated from the group - not the guide). He then asked if any of us were allergic to peanuts and went away. We waited…he returned with a selection of wagashi / mochi. A nice gift but a bit surprising? The guide then wanted to share something interesting with us, we waited for the elevator to take us up to the top floor. Since it was a busy afternoon it took us a VERY long time to get up and down again. What we saw was tiny lettuce plants growing under artificial light identical to our locally grocery store back home. By now we were getting really hungry and a bit puzzled…. (Two persons in the group decided that “They had enough” and left in a taxi muttering: We want our money back). The four remaining participant then went by tube and a long walk to the first stop, Tsukishima Monja street. The monjayaki was what one could expect, cabbage, a few shrimps and mussels. This and some tiny samples was all there was but took away some of the worst hunger. High Speed walking again and back on the underground. The izakaya in Yurakucho Yokocho was a really genuine one. We had yakitori (nice), beer and some small dishes and that was that! Joining this tour you get: a lot of high speed walking, traditional sweets bought in a foodstore to bring with you, two stops (not three eateries as advertised!) a guide who was very difficult to understand Previously we’ve been attending food tours in Tokyo, Singapore and Bangkok. This one was such a disappointment and ridiculously overpriced.
Interesting variety of venues

Interesting cooking monjo on the grill. New taste treat. Enjoyed seeing the dept store. Grilled meat at last place underdone for our taste.
Disappointing
Melanie_P, Apr 2024
We were looking forward to chicken skewers as advertised but were given chicken cartilage. The monja was fine. Sadly our guide didn’t say much or explain the food or culture as we had hoped.
Tokyo at night in places you wouldn't find on your own
Michael_B, Mar 2024
Started off slowly but was very enjoyable and the guide was very good. Would recommend the tour but would suggest that you advise people of the food offering. Cabbage isn't everyone's cup of tea.
Yumm!
Teri_W, Mar 2024
Loved the mochi treat at the beginning and all the rest of the food. Thank you Yuko for taking us to different parts of Tokyo and introducing us to new dishes!
Avoid this tour

I am sorry to say I did not rate this trip. The itinerary took us to 1.5 hours before we even stepped into a restaurant. The guide did not speak English well, did not seem to know where he was going, walked very fast and did not check if the group was keeping up. We were taken to a rammed food hall and although were bought samples did not get to try any until after the tour. Then we were taken to a stationery shop to view hydroponic lettuces! Eventually taken to restaurant but only 2 of 3 the 3 promised as he ran out of time. It would have been better to focus on one small area with less steep steps (there were elderly people on tour who left early) and visit 3 eateries close by sampling different Japanese specialities - and at least one dessert. I also stated one of us not allowed to drink alcohol but this had not been made a note of. Have taken 3 Viator Food Tours now and this was by far the worst. Rome and Paris were great.
Tokyo food tour was fun.
Kris_T, Mar 2024
Going to the Restaurant where we had the ‘pan ale’ made on the grill in front of us and then goi g to the pub. I wish the ‘dessert would have been AFTER dinner, instead of before, and that there would have been more variety of them. All of them were sweet bean paste. There were many wonderful looking desserts and wish we would have had a couple of those.

The tour guide was very nice and friendly however for the price the experience was very limited. Wish we tried more places rather than just 1 main restaurant. Felt like the experience was limited for the price.
Wonderful night out with a local! Highly recommend
Jeff_C, Nov 2023
What a way to start off my Japan trip! I really enjoyed this small group food tour with Mizuki. We got to try out local foods in places where there were zero other tourists! Mizuki did a great job of answering our questions and telling interesting stories. We got to eat daifuku, monja-yaki, yakitori skewers, and drinks! Come hungry and get ready to experience local food!
More than a food tour!
Bill_M, Oct 2023
Yukako was a great guide. She taught us about the food scene in Tokyo but also was more than happy to discuss other aspects of life in Japan.
Fantastic evening
Dorothy_E, Oct 2023
This was a really enjoyable evening. Mizu was a great guide and gave us some fascinating insights into the Tokyo food scene and general background information. We began with a selection of mochi from a local store, moved on to try 2 different types of Japanese omelettes and 3 types of sake, then finished with some yakatori at a small restaurant. I would really recommend this tour, particularly if you are travelling on your own.
Great Experience
Jeffery_J, Oct 2023
Tour guide was very knowledgeable and kind. Don't be afraid of not getting your money's worth in food or drink as we were stuffed and had a great night with all the other participants!
Very disappointing and expensive
Nicola_M, Sep 2023
I would not recommend this tour..at all.. $683.12 for a family of 4 and I thought it was very poor value for money. The tour lasted 4 hours, we visited 2 restaurants in that time and we have all come away still very hungry. Not what you’d expect after spending about $170 per head. a very poor standard of tour and feel Like we have wasted a lot of time and money. So disappointing. Tour guide not knowledgeable at all. If I could give zero stars I would.

Great night out
Grahame_P, Feb 2023
The restaurant and wine bar where terrific. Very good food experience and great atmosphere. The guide did a really good job and provided some interesting insights into Japanese culture
Guide was excellent. Food quantity was not as much as expected.
Nicole_P, Feb 2023
The tour guide was very nice, accommodating, and friendly. He was very responsive on WhatsApp and gave instructions. My issue was the quantity of food that we got. There were three restaurants that we ate at (first was for Japanese pancakes, second wad skewers & third was dessert). Giving a three stars though as I expected more food than what we ate. I did appreciate being brought to different parts of the city, places that I hadn’t ventured in before. For a food tour though, I expected to eat way more and for the price, it might have been better to do my own DIY restaurant hopping.
Response from Host, Feb 2023
Hi Nicole, thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review. We are so pleased to hear that your guide was friendly, accommodating and responsive but we are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the amount of food. The description of the tour matches with what you have described, three assorted yakitori, monja-yaki & wagashi so there are three items included. We are always open to feedback and we will ensure that our product team will be made aware of your comments to be considered for future updates and changes to the tour, so thanks again for taking the time to provide your thoughts!

Our guide Ichi was very friendly and made the night fun. Plenty of food. All our group really enjoyed the tour.
Nice Tour, thanks Kiri!
Nick_P, Mar 2020
We went on this tour to experience some restaurants we would not have ventured into on our own like the self cook Teppanyaki, it was great fun and food was delicious. Our host Kiri spoke good English and was very accommodating.
