We have done several food tours in the past and this one tops the list. Susan was an excellent guide who provided us with more than enough delicious, locally sourced food. We couldn’t finish the last sushi roll so Susan brought us boxes to take it home. She sprinkled the experience with interesting stories about Hawaiian history, culture and mythology. The food was delicious, beautifully presented and highlighted the culinary diversity of Kauai. We would highly recommend this tour.

Not for me, mediocre
Rachel_G, Mar 2024
Not really for me. We stopped at 3 places and most were pretty basic food for anywhere tropical. There wasn’t much in the way of a tour, most of the history was something you could find just reading Wikipedia. If you come with people who can’t walk much it is the tour for you. I didn’t really care much for the guide, topics got very political and not as informed on the history of the islands.
Great Tour

Met our host Susan at the Java Kai for our first tasting. Here we enjoyed kalua pork sandwich and it was yummy! Walked around the corner for a Kombucha tasting which were all wonderful and nothing like the bottled ones from home. Off Tiki Tacos with a choice of steak, organic chicken, fish or vegetable - huge taco that just awesome. Went down the street for a taste of a Kenji Burger made famous by Guy Fieri - again a treat. Ended our trip at Wailua Shave Ice which was NOT what I had ever experienced. Loved it. Susan shared quite a bit of local history and stories with us as well as the history behind our food stops. It was a TON of food but thoroughly enjoyed it, Susan and the others I. Our tour group! Would definitely try another one in a different area!
Fun food tour!
Shirley_H, Feb 2024
Susan was our guide and we had a fun food tour! Tasted 4 different island specialities and learned some history and culture along with it.
Not worth the money
Brandon_S, Jan 2024
The guide, Susan, was a great person! Unfortunately the food tour set up overall was below expectations. We only visited 4 places and at each place the food was whatever the staff decided to provide. At the first we had cold, unflavored tofu on seaweed and rice. Unfortunately, it was a horrible start. We then had sushi rolls, which were decent, followed by pork sandwiches, and completed with some ice cream. The overall history that Susan provided, which I enjoy as part of the tour, was a bit all over the place. She certainly tried, but at many times couldn’t remember certain facts or would become distracted with something else. Overall, this tour was not worth the money to us. The retail value of the food provided was about $40 based on the pricing I saw at each place. Rather than spend the money here, I would recommend you wander around the area and stop at multiple places while googling the Hawaiian history. You’ll get more for your money and be able to taste far more food. The atmosphere was not worth the added cost.
Disappointed
Karin_D, Jan 2024
Apparently our tour was double booked with another group with twice the amount of people and the tour guide was caught off guard. It was very disappointing for the amount of money we paid versus the tour we received.

What’s a horrible food tour? She took us to a sports bar and it was more gift shopping and a political than anything.
Beyond Wonderful
Beth_L, Dec 2023
Eating at 3 different food places that were all splendid. Our guide taught us some amazing Hawaii history that was so intriguing.
A treat for the pallet!
Greg_L, Nov 2023
Our guide, Susan, did a great job. She contacted us before our tour with all of the relevant information. Upon our arrival she introduced herself and had us talk about ourselves so we could have points of contact. The food consisted of local fare from 3 different vendors. We had a ginger drink with a local sausage, poke for a lunch course followed by some great açaí. Susan shared a bit of Hawaiian history and culture which made our time even better. I would highly recommend the tour.
Hidden Gems

Susan was an excellent guide to several restaurants in the area! She lives on the island and had lots of stories and information for us to use to make our vacation better! Come hungry! We had large portions - the food was really tasty!

We really enjoyed the tour. Each spot on the tour was a locally owned business, with locally sourced ingredients. I appreciate being able to support small, local businesses. Susan, our guide, was fun and she shared some interesting stories of Hawaiian history and culture. She also shared recommendations for other local favorites, and places with live music.
Delicious and interesting
Kelly_T, Oct 2023
Susan was so knowledgeable about Kauai and took us on a lovely little food tour. So happy we did the tour! It and she was amazing!
Food, too, or just OK because of the limited number of stops
Jim_L, Oct 2023
The food tour was fine, but I was disappointed in the number of places we went to. Only three stops for food.

Susan was wonderful! We had traffic problems getting to our meeting spot (island life) and she was very communicative and accommodating. (As we’re the others on our tour.) Strongly recommend!
Ok tour
Susan_P, Oct 2023
The food was good. I would have like more information about the island than where the best restaurants. The tour guide needed shower.
Lots of delicious food
Tahlya_V, Sep 2023
Susan was our guide and did great job sharing Kauai legends and overview of the vendors. We thought we signed up for Kapa’a but ended up in Koloa. Food was delicious but large portions. We had Kickshaw (delicious burger); monster sushi (best sushi I’ve ever eaten); Porky’s Kalua Pork Sandwich with pineapple and finally dessert. Save room if you do this! It’s worth it.
Absolutely worth it!
Robert_B, Jun 2023
We were in Kilauea, north shore. My family has been coming to Kauai for about a decade. We have been all over the island but never stopped in Kilauea. The food was amazing! Two items I would have never ordered but would absolutely go back for. There were five stops, one was a juice and one a dessert. We had two food allergies that were easily worked around without sacrificing the quality. All of the food locations had GF multiple GF options. This location had very little walking. Our guide Susan lived up to the hype! She is very knowledgeable, attentive and conversational. They do different locales each day. We will be joining another tour on our next visit.
Response from Host, Jul 2023
Aloha Robert! So stoked that you had a great time and after 10 years of visiting Kauaʻi, we love that you discovered new places. So happy to have you on tour again as well. You are a true foodie <3
Fun Slow Pace Food Tour
Hamilton_Y, Jun 2023
The food tour was great way to see the town from a bit less Touristy perspective! About 5-6 stops in total! Susan Schwartz was great tour guide and was ver kind / patient with our 5 and 7 year old! Be prepared for a 4 hr tour as this is a casual pace tour The tour may change dates and location during slower times so if you book a day and location have a plan B in mind if your tour gets reschuffled.
Response from Host, Jun 2023
Mahalo for joining us on our food tour! We're glad you learned so much and that your children enjoyed their time as well. Can't wait for you to join us again.
Directions were wrong!
Scott_R, May 2023
We could not go because the directions were wrong! We spent two hours trying to find a place to meet. We tried everything. We called several times but no one picked up the phone. I am now going to my citi card and rejecting the charging.
Response from Host, May 2023
Aloha Scott - I'm sorry you could not join us for our food tour. As part of our protocol for confirming our guests on our tour we contact you via email, phone, and text. you are emailed the directions upon booking the tour. In addition, we email you a reminder the day before the tour. Lastly, our tour guide reaches out to you 3 days and 1 day before the tour. We're noticing that three things happen when people can not find their tour: 1. sometimes guest accidentally incorrectly input their contact information and they do not receive the information 2. they don't read the instructions fully 3. something comes up and they can't attend the tour. Regardless, we hope that you had a great time on Kaua'i.
Food for Thought
Thomas_F, Apr 2023
Conversation with other participants and the guide. There is so much more to this island than initially thought.
Response from Host, Apr 2023
Aloha! So glad you learned as much as we hope you would. Kauai is a beautiful and amazing place.
Good food
Justyn_D, Apr 2023
The 808 grill was the best place we stopped. The fish we had was so delicious and by far the best we have had. Being from Washington the new food we experienced was really cool. Susan, our tour guide, was super knowledgeable about the island and the history. This was one of the best experiences we had.
Response from Host, Apr 2023
Aloha! So glad you enjoyed our food tour and had a wonderful time. Excited to have you on our tour again in the future.
