Traditional Japanese crafts are tricky for outsiders to try their hand at. This class at the Kyoto Shibori Museum guides you through the technique of how to dye a silk scarf using the kyo-arashi shibori method. You can customize your scarf to your own color preferences and leave with an elegant scarf to serve as a souvenir of your trip to Kyoto. While your fabric is drying, you are free to browse the museum displays and try on a shibori kimono.

This was so much fun. You got to choose what you wanted to dye - t-shirt, bag, noren, hanging. Then came the fun of deciding what picture to trace. There are many different designs and sizes of designs to choose from. You do a practice piece then start on your own design. You get instructions and help as you need it. I'd do it again. (For some reason, I was unable to upload photos of my t-shirt.)
Great experience

They accommodated us even though we were early. Great experience. The museum was very informative. Excellent experience for first time dyeing.
Great experience!

We learned how to make a particular style of shibori and were completely engaged in the process from beginning to end. The results were way beyond expectations. The instructor spoke English. Thank you Nina and the Shibori Museum.
