What To Expect

Your tour begins with morning pickup from your El Poblado, when you’ll board an air-conditioned car destined for downtown Medellin. Following a short journey to the metro station, you’ll head into downtown Medellin to stroll around Plaza Botero, a square dedicated to the Colombian artist Fernando Botero.

After snapping photographs of colossal sculptures made of bronze, you’ll continue on foot into the heart of Medellin’s downtown district, which is replete with colonial churches, museums, and leafy plazas.

Then, climb aboard Medellin’s aerial Metrocable to soar over the city up to Santo Domingo Savio Library, a black cubist collection of buildings funded by the King of Spain. Opt to disembark here and explore a hilltop commune.

Your tour concludes with hotel drop-off.

Carlos was excellent tour guide, we had a great time. He explained so much history, would help take photos. I would recommend him and this tour to anyone visiting Medellin.

Botero A Must!
Carl_B, Jan 2023
Veronica, our tour guide, was friendly and informative. She showed us a variety of attractions downtown and she took us on a cable ride. We particularly liked the sculptures of Fernando Botero in Botero Plaza. Veronica even helped us make dinner arrangements at the end of the tour. The only issue we had was a lack of air conditioning in the vehicle used for transport. It was a hot day and the car ride became quite uncomfortable at times. Carl and Joe

Dearest Carl & Joe, thank you for your review. We are elated that you had a great time seeing a variety of attractions and that the guide helped you with concierge services that were not included. One of our vans had a flat, so instead of cancelling your tour, we paid more money to subcontract another transport service. Apparently, that guys window in his vehicle wasn't closing all the way to the top, thus the air conditioning was going out through that crack. We were unaware of the slight problem with his window. Nevertheless, Veronica should have informed us immediately and not after your review. She won't be eligible for the quaterly bonus, as we must maintain our level of 5 star excellence. However, she is part of the team so as a team, we all take the hit and apologize for the inconvenience. We just wanted to save your tour from being cancelled. Again, thank you, we appreciate you and your opinion is extremely valuable. Kind regards, Alex from Medellintravels.com

Hi, first off, you were 35 minutes late! Normally we mark you as a no show, for being that late. We didn't even charge you extra for making our guide and driver wait and covered all the sites without cutting anything out. Also, don't forget that you added Arvi Park to your tour! Remember, this was a private tour, not a bus tour. As it is, this is the most inexpensive tour we have. Sorry, we don't work for minimum wage. We do quality tours in fluent English, are licensed, insured and make our guests happy. You can't please everyone, but 99.5 % of our guests appreciate us and love our tours. They are solid and great guests who come here to support our cause for sustainable tourism, not people who come and complain and nickel and dime for every single thing. Anyhow, cheers.

This tour guide was provided by Medellin Travels and included prompt hotel pick up. Our tour guide was Daniela, she was very personable and outgoing. The trip started off at Plaza Botero where we were able to see some of the typical statues of the time under the Fernando Botero time period. Daniela was very knowledgeable and ensured any questions we had were answered. The plaza itself is very busy and has many people walking around including beggars. We were also able to see churches that were once designated by race and skin color, a part of history which seems to permeate all colonized countries. We were then able to take the Metro train which can be very busy in peek hours to a cable car (gondola lift) all the way up to Comunas 1 which offers expansive and breathtaking views of the city. The town is very humble and there are people from all walks of life. Daniela was very informative and made sure we know what was safe and what areas should be avoided. I would highly recommend this tour for adults and probably for groups of 5 or smaller. There is a great deal of walking (as it is a WALKING tour), stair climbing, and overall moderate physical activity that very overweight tourists, the elderly, or children might not be able to tolerate well. The price for the tour was acceptable, not a "bank for your buck" deal for sure, but it is enjoyable and does give you a great understanding of the early days of Colombia and Medellin. I would recommend doing this tour before any of the other tours as it offers a great introduction. The tour does offer a view of some of the less than glamorous parts of town which includes seeing the homeless, beggars, street-walkers, and very motivated street vendors. I never felt unsafe or overly concerned, but there can be a sense of unease for some if they are not used to traveling internationally which is why I would recommend traveling with a friend or partner. Based on my overall experience, I would recommend this tour.
