What To Expect

Begin with pickup at your Mexico City hotel, then travel to Xochimilco in a private vehicle. Built on the remains of an Aztec city, Xochimilco’s canals and artificial islands are part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and you visit the site by trajinera, a traditional barge with a flat bottom and bright designs.

Continue to the Museo Diego Rivera Anahuacalli, which the artist built for his collection of pre-Hispanic artifacts. Take in exhibits that celebrate almost every indigenous group in Mexico’s history, then climb to the second floor to see Rivera’s own works displayed. Drive to the historic Coyoacán neighborhood to visit the Casa Azul, or Frida Kahlo Museum, where the painter lived, worked, and died. Learn about her life and see important examples of her work, and take time to explore the colonial-era neighborhood on foot.

Make a final stop at the national university to see a series of mosaic murals that tell the story of Mexico in towering, symbolic designs. After visiting the murals, pause to see the Olympic Stadium before returning to your hotel, where this tour concludes.

Good Tour with an Amazing Guide Sr Sergio
      Robert_E, Apr 2024
Our guide Sergio was awesome. Very knowledgeable about everything we were seeing. Took great care of us and allowed us to stop and browse at the stores along the way. He is very funny and made our trip very memorable
      Great tour
      Thomas_A, Mar 2024
Our guide Roberto and driver Carlos provided us with an excellent tour experience. I highly recommend both. Only downside, is tha neither the Frida Kahlo or Diego Rivera museums have much of their art. Both are interesting but the Frida museum is about her life and the Diego museum is about precolumbian art collection he left to the people of Mexico. Their art is not at these museums
      Great Day!
      Joyce_A, Mar 2024
The boat ride on Xochimilco was our favorite part of this wonderful tour day, although everything was perfect. Our guide and driver were very accommodating of my husband’s injured foot. Our guide was also very knowledgeable and friendly. Highly recommend this tour!
      Great day tour
      Daniel_R, Mar 2024
Our tour guide and driver were great! They had immense knowledge and made the day very smooth. Highly recommend this tour to do a lot in one day.
      Great day

Outstanding in every way ! Ramon's knowledge was boundless - answered every question in detail, and Daniel's driving and the level of comfort were really excellent but relaxed and flexible without being fussy. Ramon's passion for subject and Mexico shines through and his explanations were always to the point and adapted to our interests. Couldn't recommend more highly.
An unforgettable tour of Mexico City's cultural and historic gems — with delicious food
      Andy_K, Feb 2024
As any resident will tell you, Mexico City can be a tough city to navigate. We spent six days in CDMX, and signing up for a guided tour was one of the best decisions we made. Viator paired us with Roberto (tour guide) and Joel (driver) of the company Mexico Tour Freelance. They were fantastic guides, instructors, and ambassadors for our day of touring. We started the day at UNAM, or the University City, where we saw the famous university library (see photos) and the Olympic stadium adorned with Rivera artwork. From there, we drove to Xochimilco and spent an hour lazily cruising the canals in a trajinera (see photo), taking in the man-made islands and drinking a beer purchased from one of the boat vendors. Note: some trajinera experiences are more of a party — think: tequila, karaoke, live music, etc. This was much more laid-back, which we preferred. Next, to Diego Rivera's famous — if underlooked — Anahuacalli museum, a stunning collection of pre-hispanic sculptures housed in an incredible temple-like structure (see photo). Highly, highly recommend. Finally, we ended in Coyoacán, touring Frida Kahlo's famous blue house and visiting the markets and plaza. Coyoacán feels like an artsy, lively enclave, a town within a city. We could've spent hours more there. Robert was an ideal tour guide for the day. Each stop we made felt like a crash course in history, art, culture, food, but without being overbearing or loading us up with too much info. Can't recommend him and Joel — who flagged down a street vendor at a stop light and bought us a traditional Mexican snack to eat when we got stuck in traffic — highly enough.
Wonderful Private Tour worth spending for!
      ravneet_M, Feb 2024
I gave it a 4 star as there was a glitch in the system and the frida kahlo tickets were actually not available. The tour operator Luiz called me right away to advise me and profusely apologize. But with these purchases there are no refunds so we went on with whatever we could do. Luiz was extremely nice and He did give me 2 tickets for the next day but we were a total of 4 and so 2 couldn’t go! They did give us an experience to have churros and hot chocolate to compensate but this will always be on our mind that they couldn’t see the museum! Aside from that everything was great! The guide was professional, knowledgeable, spoke amazing English and very very nice. We had a nice memorable day for sure
Frida Kahlo’s House and the Canals.
      Robert_D, Feb 2024
Fantastic day with our guide and driver. Eduardo navigated a procession with his expert driving. Carlos, our guide, was excellent. Incredibly knowledgeable and personable. We truly enjoyed his company and guidance. Frida’s house was well worth the visit. The canals were very interesting and beautiful.
      Fabulous time on this tour!
      Elaine_M, Feb 2024
Our guide was fabulous!!! So knowledgable and friendly. Not only provided excellent information about the tour, but also about Mexico City in general. Our driver so awesome as well. Woud recommend this tour in a heart beat.
      Skip the canal boat ride
      Lisa_W, Feb 2024
The highlights were learning about the design meanings on the University murals and the Frida Kahlo museum. It was too crowded at the canal boats to be enjoyed. Would have liked to spend much more time exploring Coyoacan. The guide was knowledgeable and he and the driver were pleasant.
      Response from Host, Feb 2024
Hello, thank you for your kind comments, we are very sorry that you could not enjoy the canals due to the crowd of people who were in the place on the day of your visit, generally it is a quiet place but on very sporadic occasions many visitors arrive looking for Live the Xochimilco experience and its water channels.

Roberto was our guide for this tour. He was not engaging, did not want to share much, would not help answer any of our questions. I would NOT recommend having him as a tour guide. We started our tour at 10AM and he said he would take us to the market for lunch, but He mismanaged the time we had. He did not leave any time for lunch so we had to skip the market. When I asked him what happened he said "well you can have lunch and miss the Museum" So we skipped the market and lunch. We had a horrible experience with this tour.
      Response from Host, Feb 2024
Hello, we are very sorry for the inconvenience of your day, but allow me to say in our defense that the tour started at 10:00 am and the heavy traffic of the city does not allow enough time in some cases and the Frida museum tickets Kahlo has a specific schedule and there is no tolerance, we must be punctual at the museum appointment since otherwise access is not allowed at a time that does not correspond to your reservation, on the other hand the time could have been used after the museum and it would have been possible to spend more time in the market and have lunch, we will make a strong recommendation of your complaint to the tourist guide for not having made these specific recommendations.
      Fantastic experience
      Girish_S, Jan 2024
Our guide and driver were both excellent. Carlos (guide) is passionate and sincere. He knows and shares a lot! We learned a ton about the city, cultures, locales and artists. Just a wonderful day!
      Great

Had a great time. Our tour guide gave us alot of historical information during the drive. He offered to take plenty of our group photos and we felt well taken care of.
      Please beware of hustlers
      Jose_R, Jan 2024
We decided to opt out on a group tour and pay the extra money for a private tour. The driver and our tour guide both were knowledgeable about the history behind the sites that we visited however, we got hustled on the boat ride at Xochimilco. When we arrived there was a third man with a brief case who jumped on board with us. Our tour guide kept insisting that we drink and was really pushy about it. He wanted us tipsy because the guy with the brief case was selling silver jewelry towards the end of the trip. They were all in on it. Our tour guide was also really pushy when we got to our second destination and had to get lunch. Lunch was on our own but the tour guide instantly pushed us to a taco place that he said he loved. The food was mediocre and to make matters worse our guide and the waiter kept trying to get us to order a full size bottle of liquor. We spent close to $500 for this tour and the entire time we’re hustled into buying stuff that was way overpriced. Please rethink this agency. Save the money and do it on your own.
      Excellent

Wow. What an experience of art and architecture . Our guide Bruno has extensive knowledge of history and art . Mr. Joel , our driver was great too. Made sure we were very comfortable. Thx
      Well worth it
      santaluciasf, Jan 2024
Great way to start our Mexico City vacation. Yosafat was a wonderful guide and took care of everything for us. We didn’t make it to the Diego Rivera museum, as included in the itinerary. But honestly, we were so tired at that point that we were ready to go back to our hotel. I probably would have swapped out the trajinero canal part for the Diego Rivera museum and some free time to walk around the Coyoacán neighborhood where the Frieda Kahlo museum is (which we loved). Mexico City is a crowded, noisy place and you’ll be tired at the end of this tour. Well worth it.
      Loved it!

We had an amazing time! Veronica was a great guide, knowledgeable and professional. Definitely a recommended experience for anyone visiting Mexico City.
      The guide was...
      Alison_F, Dec 2023
The guide was particularly detailed in his explanations of the geography, history and culture of the entire region, but especially of the areas we visited. The driver was amazingly patient with the unexpectedly incredibly heavy traffic, due to a local protest. We managed to see more than we expected. The water trip was lively and exciting with lots of activities to observe.

It was great to be picked up from our hotel and have our own guide. Each stop was amazing. I enjoyed hearing the history behind the murals. Boat ride was the highlight for me of this trip. Frida Kahlo Museum was also worth seeing.
      Great tour, guide, and driver.
      Bob_N, Dec 2023
The tour said to plan on 10 hours door to door but our guide, Bruno, and driver, Lalo, were fantastic about shifting the schedule to fit our needs.. We dropped two things on the planned schedule and added lunch at a beautiful outdoor cafe, visited a neighboring art market, and got back in 8 hours. I can highly recommend this tour and our guide and driver.
