What To Expect

Begin your tour with pickup from your central Nairobi hotel in time for a morning departure. Traveling in the comfort of a private vehicle, set out on the drive to Limuru, situated at 7,200 feet (2,195 meters) above sea level.

On arrival at the Kiambethu Tea Farm, follow your guide on a walking tour of the plantation. Hear the history of the farm, which was set up by AB McDonell in 1910 and is still run by the same family, then learn more about the growing, picking, and processing of the tea leaves. As you explore the farm, keep a look out for exotic birds and Colobus monkeys.

Back at the farmhouse, take a seat on the verandah, looking out over the tea fields and the distant Ngong Hills, and sample the freshly brewed tea for yourself. Finally, tuck into a delicious 3-course buffet lunch, all made with produce fresh from the farm.

On return to Nairobi, your tour ends with afternoon drop-off at your hotel.

The day was most enjoyable. The tour company representative, Peter, was on time, friendly, drove safely and was very friendly. The experience at the Tea Farms was excellent - Fiona, Sarah and the rest of the staff are friendly, warm and accommodating and kindly shared so much information about the farming and the tea industry. The walk in the forest was informative and relaxing! The food was all locally sourced, and FANTASTIC (they make their own butter that is to die for!). Well worth the experience.

Tea Farm Tour
Sara_S, Jul 2022
I visited the Kiambethu Tea Farm on a misty day, which lent the plantation a sense of ethereal beauty. We began the tour with hot tea and biscuits as Fiona, the lady giving us the tour, walked us through the processing of tea and the different parts of the tea plant. My friend and I then wandered the beautiful garden infront before being served a lovely lunch. The trip was relaxing. I would recommend it to anyone.

Safe drive and wonderful informative hostess

The drive to and from Kiambethu was lovely , my driver Paul was very considerate and drove gently ( considering Nairobi traffic) he offered a choice of music, and was informative on the surroundings . Fiona is truly an inspiration . Wonderful in depth explanation on the growing , manufacturing process and shipments of the tea . The lounge was beautifully presented and served in a beautiful garden setting . All in all a very good day experience , just outside of Nairobi .

A beautiful day on a tea farm
Serina_M, Mar 2022
A great day out in one of the most beautiful settings in Kenya. A truly blissful day learning about the history of tea in Kenya and the processes that go into making a cup of tea. Followed by a delicious lunch in a stunning setting. Fiona and team were fantastic, they made us feel so welcome and answered any questions we asked. It’s worth noting the transportation to the farm is private but the actual tour on the tea farm is not, you will be part of a group. That was ok for us but if you did want a completely private tour you may need to make alternative arrangements.

Booking was fast in a short time. The driver, Black Santa was friendly and filled us in on history of Nairobi. The Greenery, information on tea making and lunch. Fiona knew her subject and was honest. The drive to the farm was scenic.

Lovely Day Out away from the hustle and bustle of the city!
Ross_M, Jun 2019
A great day out, taking in the scenery and being treated to a lovely meal! The hosts are all super friendly and it was lovely to spend a day away from the city in the gardens of the tea farm! Did not think we would enjoy it as much as we did, the only suggestion we would make is to have a short tour of a tea factory included which would have made it 5 stars!

A great and relaxing way to spend...
roberts.vonsovics, Dec 2017
A great and relaxing way to spend the first part of the day. The tour starts with a relaxing walk around the garden, then a walk around the tea groves and then you move to the old house for a nice talk about tea and the processes around it - of course while sipping tea/coffee. Later you go through the forest and hear about the traditional use of plants and their significance. The whole event then is topped up with a great feast. A great and relaxing trip away from the hustle and bustle of Nairobi.
