What To Expect

Your Nairobi wildlife conservation tour begins with pickup at your hotel or accommodation—this flexible tour accommodates Airbnbs and private homes, too. The first stop of the day is the Giraffe Centre, where conservation work supports endangered Rothschild’s giraffes that visitors can feed.

Then, head to the elephant orphanage at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. You’ll have an hour to observe rescued elephants in the care of conservationists who bottle feed the smallest elephants. (An additional conservation fee is required to visit the elephant orphanage, which is located within Nairobi National Park.)

Unlike some big-bus wildlife tours of Nairobi, this experience is limited to 15 people for more personal experiences with the conservation centers. After the two conservation stops, make a bonus visit to the Kazuri Beads Factory; it’s a great place to pick up handicrafts that support local livelihoods. The day ends with drop-off at your accommodations in Nairobi.

Very enjoyable and informative tour. It was great to learn about the different species of giraffes and to feed them. The baby elephants are so cute and you can "adopt" one! The purpose of the orphanage to raise the baby elephants that might have had challenges, then release them to the wild. The guides even made it that more easy and enjoyable.

This was the adventure of a lifetime. You can hand fees the giraffes and pet the elephants. They have a 1 year old baby black rhino at the orphanage as well. It is a must do!!! My tour guide Stephen was very nice, knowledgeable and professional!!!

Would have been ok if we had gone, but due to flights cancellation we were unable to go. We did request a day change, but Viator could or would not change it, no refund or credit offered.
Feeding giraffes is our new favorite activity
David_F, Apr 2024
Our Guide Stephen was great and showed us where to stand to get the best photos and avoid the worst mud. He also took us to the giraffe park early so we were the only ones with the animals for a while and that made it very special. We also had a guide and learned all about the giraffes and got to see them up close. Overall the giraffe experience was much better then the elephants but both were amazing. The elephant orphanage also had a baby rhino which was a bonus as he was so adorable.
Best affordable experience!

Best affordable experience. I enjoyed the activities that this package offers. White glove customer care and professionalism. I’m traveling alone and I was taken care by the driver. I recommend them.
Spend your money elsewhere

In general, there are much better ways to spend $140 in Nairobi. I'm 100% sure why they wouldn't just make the list price of this experience $140 instead of making it $95 and saying in smaller font that you'll have to pay an extra $45. Seems like disingenuous marketing to me. Giraffe Centre was fine for like 15 mins. It's cute to feed the giraffes and get your pics but the tour definitely doesn't need to dedicate an hour to this stop. Elephant Orphanage was cute - but also definitely didn't need to be an hour - it's basically them trotting out cute baby elephants and telling their sob stories for 60 minutes. Bead factory was surprisingly cool - very neat seeing how the items were made.

Pickup from the hotel was seamless and the guide/driver did a really good job communicating with the group. We arrived at the giraffe sanctuary early so it was like we received a private/small group tour, and the elephant orphanage was a very cool experience. The only issue I had was the bead factory tour. It was very forced and didn’t really add value to the wildlife tour experience. The last stop with the gift shops and cafe could easily suffice/fill the tourist souvenir need.
Great Tour of giraffes and elephants.

Beautiful places but non-existent guide

I loved the Elephant Orphanage and Giraffe Centre! Highly recommended. But I don't recommend this tour company. The guide was not rude or anything. However, he wasn't that friendly. I got in the car, he said hi, and then we just drove off. He didn't provide any value add that I would expect out of a guide for >$100 trip. He was just a driver. Also, there was another person in the group who added on an extra component to the trip, but the driver left her alone to have lunch at a random place (not of her choosing) for over an hour. Pretty strange if you ask me. Again, the guide wasn't terrible - he didn't do anything wrong but he clearly is not in the right job. I would expect a guide to share some details about the city, places, or animals. But he said nothing.
Great experience sampling Kenyan culture

We had a great experience. Stephen mutuku was an excellent guide! He was knowledgeable, kind, patient and had a great sense of humor. The giraffe center was awesome and had an excellent view of giraffe manor. The elephant cutter and bread factory were also excellent experiences. The stops along the way for lunch and to pick up souvenirs were also very memorable and the arts and crafts were of excellent quality.
Exceptional

Spending time at the giraffe center is not enough time , the experience. Is wonderful. Get there early and the highlight is feeding the giraffes. Elephant orphanage is well organized and everyone is able to see the elephants at any standing point. Be ready with your cameras.

The great information provided by the Chief Keeper and the willingness of the baby elephants to interact with the people present.
Very enjoyable

We had a great time at the elephant orphanage and the giraffe center. The women making the beads was very interesting and their finished work was amazing! Highly recommend. The elephant orphanage was already full so book this tour to get you in!
