We will meet at the turtle fountain in Piazza Mattei. Your sketch tour leader will be a female artist whom you can usually recognize because she is carrying a bunch of folding stools and is looking for you!

Something non touristy to fit in the local scene

Sitting, looking at the inspiring fountain and ruins I had the chance to learn something about sketching and create a unique souvenir of my time in Rome. It was a great day weatherwise to do this . I felt part of the city as tourists walked around me looking at the sites. Kelly was very patient as she explained what to do. Her individual help was also much appreciated. I will use the handmade sketchbook she gave each student to record more memories of this wonderful city.

My husband and I truly enjoyed this experience. Our instructor was encouraging, warm and inspirational. You start at turtle fountain, where you’ll get a quick tutorial of supplies, receive your hand made sketch and watercolor notebook and a chair. After some time to sketch and warmup. You’ll walk a short distance to the next site. Where you’ll be given some short instruction again, building on the previous and more time to sketch and draw. Finally, you’ll walk another short distance to sketch, draw and watercolor some more. I worried about my skill level not being on pare but my fears were baseless as we all ended up just being completely immersed in our drawings. Even my husband, who described himself as having negative talent, surprised himself and had a wonderful time. I highly recommend this experience to anyone who wants to stop and apperciate Rome!

A very kind host took us around the area around the Jewish gettho to do some drawings. She made me feel relaxed about the fact that you are sitting amongst a crowd of passersby, at least when I was there in late may. Very fun, very easy going and, for me, the perfect kickstart for doing sketches on my own the following days.

Kelly was such a lovely, personable, and relaxed teacher that made you instantly feel comfortable and capable to just enjoy the experience! Accepting of all talent levels, and beginners. Trust a beginner!! While also really wonderful to hear her interact with advanced artist. And the LOCATION!! 🤯🤩 Really not a better way to spend a few hours of your trip in Rome. 10/10 highly recommend!!

Started with Turtle fountain with exercise to get self prepped and then moved on to Jewish ghetto to do shading practice and ended with ink to paper sketch (with catch - can't take pen off the paper). The we applied watercolor to the drawing..making it a painting. My fav part was the ink drawing/watercolor painting. It was a nice day and it's a good activity to go through if you were curious about sketching/painting this amazing historical city. Instructor was encouraging even though I was constantly beating myself up for not getting things perfect or my drawing/it did not reflect what was right in front of me.

Sketching ancient scenery in Rome. It was an enjoyable and relaxing class. There wasn’t much of a lesson, besides learning about shading and there wasn’t much history of the locations we were sketching.

I'm so glad I did this tour. Kelly has created a great alternative way to slow down and look at Rome through new eyes. It was refreshing to take a step away from rushing through the tourist cycle in Rome and just sit and contemplate. You don't need to have any experience as she gently talks you through some exercises to warm up and start drawing. I would highly recommend this tour and anything else Kelly cooks up. I'll do it again next time in Rome. I love also that I had a different kind of souvenir to bring home with my handmade sketchbook and my sketches/painting.

If, like me, you've always thought it would be lovely to spend time looking and sketching your surroundings but couldn't get past your own inhibitions, this is the perfect opportunity to actually do it. Kelly created a great supportive atmosphere in our little group and by starting off with different exercises I stopped worrying about the result and just enjoyed the process. It was a wonderful way to stop and appreciate the sights. I've even done some more sketching on my own since then. Thank you Kelly!
