Mixed feelings

The tour of the catacombs was an interesting and memorable experience! Our guide of the catacombs was very well informed and gave us a lot of information about the catacombs. He was friendly and personable. The company in charge of transportation was unorganized. Our group of 16 met at the office and were transported in multiple vehicles that arrived over I’d say 10-15 minutes. My party of two was sent to a van with six other people which only had 7 passenger seats. The driver told us to squeeze in. My party went back to office and waited for another van. When we arrived, the guide met us saying he had been waiting for us. We then joined the rest of our tour group who had been seated in the sanctuary of the church above the catacombs. Unfortunately it just started the tour with a bit of stress. The tour itself and the guide made up for the rocky start.

Visiting the Catacombs was an excellent tour. The history we learned about the burial grounds was well worth it. We did the shorter tour which was perfect for our family. It didn’t feel rushed but was ample time.

Wow our guide gave an amazing tour

Amazing guide, great tour. I don't usually like the guided tours, but in most of Rome it seems like it is the only way to get into the good stuff or skip the line. In the catacombs, however, a guide seemed like a good idea versus wandering around in the dark. I am so glad we did this tour - as advertised our guide showed us the important stuff without wasting time but also had so much knowledge of the site and the relevant history and so much great insight into the way history and archaeology interact to try to understand and interpret the things we were looking at on the tour (the evidence, like we were reviewing the evidence first hand) and how that evidence might support what is 'known' or perhaps demonstrate what is yet to be discovered or 'proven'. Really fantastic. I'm glad my teens also experienced such a professional tour but they both liked how our guide could relate ancient history or events to them in ways they could understand. Unfortunately we joined up with the group just after introductions and I never got our guide's name - but he was great. The tour was pretty quick as it was supposed to be, but I would have gladly spent all day learning from our guide.

A somewhat low-key tour but an interesting one.

Our guide (I didn't catch his name) was interesting and engaging. But in truth you don't get to see a lot of the catacombs during the tour, although it might get very repetitive if you did. As the tour only lasts about an hour it isn't the best value-for-money tour out there.

Pretty amazing that these catacomb's go on for 34km’s! The tour is 800m and about a hour long. It was worth seeing and the underground church is incredible.

A pretty good tour

The drive was fast and quiet, the tour guide in the catacombs was okay. It would have been better if the guide had more energy or brought the stories to life a bit. He was also rather quiet and the audio connection with limited range made it kind of hard to hear anything.
