What To Expect

Pick up your GoCar at one of two convenient locations: at Union Square or on Beach Street near Fisherman's Wharf. Up to 2 people can fit in this roofless, 3-wheeled car that reaches speeds of 35 miles per hour. This is a unique way to explore the City by the Bay, and GoCars aren't available in any other place in the nation. 

Strap on your helmet, climb into the tiny car, and take off on your city adventure. Listen for directions that are clear and informative, telling you where to go and commentary about the historical and cultural significance of your destinations. Follow the designated route or make up your own tour based on your interests like film, art or nature. Explore the city at your own pace, stopping to spend more time at places that interest you. Landmarks on the preloaded tour include over 50 points of interest like Ocean Beach, Golden Gate Park, Fort Point, Crissy Field, Lombard Street and the Palace of Fine Arts.

  • GoCars hold a maximum of 2 people. Prices are per GoCar - not per person.
  • Pickup location must be chosen at time of booking. This is the location where your GoCar will be reserved
  • Wheelchair accessible
  • Driver must be 21 years or older to rent and must provide a major credit card and valid driver’s license at the time of check-in. A driver’s license must be in the customer’s physical possession (no photocopy). For foreign customer’s, an international license is not necessary.
  • Service animals allowed
  • Passengers must be 4 years of age or older - and small children must safely fit into one of our DOT approved helmets. The GoCar is registered as a motorcycle - but a motorcycle license is not required to operate the vehicle.
  • Near public transportation
  • All renters must be able to read, understand and sign a liability release and waiver form (standard participant agreement)
  • On the day of rental, a $500 security deposit will be held on the customer’s credit card. If a CDW or SLI insurance plan is selected, a $300 security deposit will be held. The security deposit is released when the GoCar is returned.
  • Foreign language options are available in French, Spanish, Italian and German
  • For the safety and comfort of passengers the maximum height is 6'4" (1.9m) and maximum combined weight of 500 lbs (226.8 kg) for two passengers
  • Transportation is wheelchair accessible
  • Surfaces are wheelchair accessible
  • Can you stop along the way?
  • Yes, you set your own pace. The car always knows where you are and you can park anywhere you want (motorcycle parking or car parking) for as long as you want, and as soon as you start to drive again, the car will begin to talk!
  • Not recommended for travelers with back problems
  • Do you have to stay on the tour?
  • Absolutely not! If there is a San Francisco sight you wish to see but is not yet included on the tour, just use the map provided to navigate your own way through the city streets.
  • Vehicles:
  • Most travelers can participate
  • Are controlled with a motorcycle-style handle, throttle, and hand brakes. The 3-wheeled cars seat two and have a lockable trunk for your things. Their small size makes parking a breeze, and in San Francisco - a major bonus!
  • How fast does the car go?
  • Up to 35-mph. Note that drivers in San Francisco do not typically drive fast, therefore an average speed of 30-mph or less can be expected while driving.
  • Can you cross the Golden Gate Bridge?
  • No, but the tour will navigate you to Fort Point. Here the bridge soars about 200-feet above your head. It is possible to gain pedestrian access to the bridge span from the car park at the bridge vantage point.
  • What is a CDW?
  • Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is an optional form of insurance similar to rental car insurance that limits your liability in case of accident. It is non-refundable. If you opt to purchase the CDW your deposit for rented a GoCar is only USD$300.00 instead of USD$500.00
  • This is a private tour/activity. Only your group will participate

Cancellation Policy

You can cancel up to 24 hours in advance of the experience for a full refund.

  • For a full refund, you must cancel at least 24 hours before the experience’s start time.
  • If you cancel less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time, the amount you paid will not be refunded.
  • Any changes made less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time will not be accepted.
  • Cut-off times are based on the experience’s local time.
  • This experience requires good weather. If it’s canceled due to poor weather, you’ll be offered a different date or a full refund.

The use of the gocar seeing San Francisco was absolutely fantastic the GPS directions and comments were spectacular friendly, and funny. Would highly recommend this to anyone that wishes to see San Francisco in a way that I wouldn’t be able to do otherwise.

Zipping around town was super fun! We loved seeing all the sights but missed a couple turns because the volume kept changing even though we had the knob all the way up. We missed some fun facts as well. All in all we had a great time!

The GPS was very easy! Loved the entire experience. It was easy to get in and out at stops. My favorite part was twin peaks and the amazing view. I would recommend renting the max hours allowed.

It’s a fun experience touring around SF, except for the noise from the car. May be an electric car would be better.
Cool concept. Would do again for new locations. Just know what you’re getting in advance.

I was disappointed that the car didn’t have a heater option as I was promised at time of booking (being as it was in the winter). The guaranteed trunk space wouldn’t hold 1 or two small backpacks, just 1-2 water bottles and a clutch purse. It would have been cheaper to book directly through the company vs third party on viator, I learned upon arrival, even as a walk in. They definitely had lots of cars available for a winter booking. The directions were good and the stops were beautiful. We had the car for 5 hours and could have gone longer if we took advantage of more stops if doing more than a quick picture. Many places were crowded enough that parking was still a challenge for at least half the stops, even as small as it is. My husband and I are both small framed people and it was tight quarters (which we enjoyed, but I don’t know how larger people would fend). There is no reverse and it does not corner on rails like one would assume with a motorcycle type frame. Max speed is about 30 mph. The tour guide info was interesting and we enjoyed it minus being quite cold.

It was a great experience… Fun way to see the city. The staff was courteous and informative. I do wish the machine could climb the hills a bit more. Definitely worth doing.

The purchasing process was easy. The team went over the driving instructions several times which was very helpful. The GPS guidance was helpful as well. Loved the ride. People would stop and take pics of us while we took pics of the points of interest.

The 2-hour GoCar tour was perfect. We loved the little car so much. It was very easy to use and the audio guided tour was easy to follow. I totally enjoyed it and recommend this tour.
My Go Car Experience

It was a fun experience. The only issue was that the GPS system was very basic. There was a festival going on so the planned route was blocked at one point. The map they drew to get us back on the planned route was terrible and put us in very heavy traffic. It was difficult to figure out where we were. Also the GPS was a bit confusing at times because it would tell you about alternate routes first before telling you where to actually proceed on your planned route. This was all as you were passing the street that you were actually supposed to turn on for instance. Overall, a fun experience, but after getting lost due to the closures, it kind of made it stressful and less enjoyable than it could have been if the operators had just done a bit more leg work in helping tourists navigate the closure, especially since this particular event/festival is a reoccurring event.

We loved driving around the city. The car has a gps that leads you to the highlights of San Francisco. You can even park your cart and grab lunch. Would recommend this to anyone!

This is my 3rd time on this tour, first time on the 4 hour tour with 6 cars in the group. (previous two times we did the 3 hr tour, felt like we actually had more time to see things ironically) Only complaint was we felt extremley rushed and did not have time to stop at several sites, due to LA type traffic in the park, Japanese tea garden, arboretum area sucke dmore than 45 mins of our tour sitting in traffic. Other than that it was great. I would recommend skipping the park tour in the future. The beaches, the bridge, the military history, George Luca/Ronald Regan facts all super fun. The beaches were great stops with restrooms and amazing views. Lots of photo opportunities! We had a great time overall!

Stay on the path they have chosen and 4 hours minimum needed to see and take pictures in San Francisco area. If you go off the path you will put yourself into dangerous traffic and hills the car cannot climb. It was a great way to see the entire city and scope out your dinner reservations.

My boyfriend and I flew in from Seattle to enjoy ourselves with a plethora of things to do and this establishment did not disappoint. It was our first time doing it. The whole process was very easy. I definitely would recommend this tour. One thing I would say that I recommend to GoCar would be if a person goes over maybe 5 or 10 mins to not charge just because you have to count in the lights we have to wait at as well as traffic. However, in all it was a amazing time.

This was fun to get around in and tour the city but there were a few negatives. With our helmets on, the wind noise and the very noisy engine we could not hear the GPS directions or narrative clearly and until my grandson started reading the map that was included we took some wrong turns. The car was also a bit difficult to maneuver with its wide front wheel base and no reverse. Definitely an adventure!
