The Redwoods were awesome. The rain not so much. Unfortunately when you book your trip you have no control over the weather and neither does Viator. Our driver was good and he managed the hairpin turns on the mountain with precision!

While the Redwood experince was good the trip/transportation was less than enjoyable. The bus lacked a working air conditioner and it was one of the hottest afternoons per the bus driver.

It was very easy to find the Big Bus location since it was centrally located. The tour left promptly and it was just the right amount of time in my opinion. Seeing redwood trees was on my bucket list and I saw plenty here! There were also bathrooms at Muir Woods and a cafe to buy refreshments and gifts.

Muir Woods is a serene experience, the unmissable scent of redwood bark is all around as you trek around the walkways. The trees that were visible from the pathway weren't much taller than some firs and pines, but they were bulkier and clearly much older. The driver Patrick was great, he was funny and informative. We checked out a few landmarks on the way and had a chance to take a photo stop near the bridge. We reached the park in good time to enjoy our allotted visiting time (there is a restriction on how long the tour buses are allowed to wait). Lucky we were warned about the dangers of missing the bus going back and having to pay premium cab fare ...

Walking into this forest...

Walking into this forest has its own energy field. Walk quietly and spend more time than 1.5 hours for full benefit, for me the time was not enough. It should be less wandering in the bay by the bus which would leave more time in the forest for customers!

The tour was great and well organised. Our tour guide (pretty sure his name was James) was excellent and clearly loved the city. We got to see some of the sights of Sam Francisco on the drive out, the woods themselves were stunning and on the way back we got some beautiful scenery. We had the option of getting off at Sausalito and making our own way back to SF, or staying on the bus. I stayed on but most people stopped at Sausalito. We had enough time at Muir Woods to do one of the longer main trails (I am a fairly fast walker, but did stop to take plenty of photos), but if you prefer to venture off the main trail you might prefer a longer visit. It was fairly busy so not an isolated idyll, but still a very pleasant break from the city.
