What To Expect

Receive a morning pickup from your hotel in Santiago. Travel by air-conditioned minivan out of the city toward Cajón del Maipo in the mountainous Andes region outside of town. As you drive, make periodic stops to take in views of local waterfalls and glaciers.

You soon arrive amidst the towering rock walls of this scenic gorge area, taking time to soak up the postcard-perfect views as your driver-guide prepares your included picnic. Sip on Chilean wine and a snack made with local ingredients, a meal made even better by your incredible view.

After finishing your picnic and exploration of the area, climb back into your van for the ride back to Santiago, where you’re dropped off at your hotel.

During winter season (June-Sept) the vehicle does not go to the reservoir due to the snow on the road. There will be some walking to get there
There will be a stop at a rental store winter season June-Sept for proper snow boots and clothing, if needed.

Pick up from hotels central located downtown, providencia, las condes or vitacura. If staying apart from hotel radio area must consider a meeting point

This trip is amazing! We highly recommend it, much better than bus tours! Our guide Gabriel gave us personal attention. He was knowledgeable and made the trip well worth it. The views were spectacular and the local empenadas at our first stop were the best. The picnic spread and the wine was perfect

Benjamin and Alejandro were an amazing team for our trip to Cajon Del Maipo. We had a wonderful, sunny day for our tour, and Alejandro navigated the curvy and bumpy roads like an expert. Benjamin shared wonderful information throughout the day, and answered all of our questions as the day went on. Gabriel, at the tour office, was also a great help when there was a miscommunication regarding our pick up point for the tour (Viator needs to work with this tour company to straighten that out). Overall, this was a really good tour with a great guide and driver. Thank you.

This was an excellent tour. Our guide Benjamin was very knowledgeable and made our trip fun and enjoyable. The trip up to the Reservoir was gorgeous to the top of the Andes mountains. Beautiful, vistas, and pictures. The chocolate house, and piñata’s and wine tasting we’re all great. Highly recommend this tour.

Our Guide Benjamin and our Driver Alejandro were amazing! Benjamin conducted our tour group of 8 in English, Spanish and Portugese. His abikity to switch between the was phenomenal! A great way to spend a day when visiting Santiago

A lovely and relaxed day that helped catch a glimpse of the majestic beauty of the Andes mountains and the Maipo valley. The wine tasting and empanadas added to the fun as did the excellent leadership of our guide and the capable driving of our driver. Well appointed, clean and comfortable vehicle. Communication the day before was clear and the pick up from the hotel on time. I really enjoyed this excursion.

Fabulous time with Benjamin and Alexandro! The ride into the Andes offered great views and some hair raising turns. We stopped multiple times for photos and were able to walk all around the reservoir and waterfalls. The wine was excellent. The chocolate shop was a tasty treat--I recommend the coconut caramel ice cream! Be sure to save room for an Empanada, as well. The tour was conducted in excellent English, for us non-Spanish speakers. We definitely got our money's worth. I highly recommend this tour!

Ski resort and llamas

The trip to the ski lodge was beautiful but was not thrilled with the gas station stop and the llama farm. Had a nice lunch at the ski lodge at our own expense. But expensive for the experience. This was a replacement for our original booked tour and no empanadas.

Thank you for your personal experience. * Gas station stop - This stop is more than necessary . It is la the bathroom stop before starting the mountain road. Lets not forget its up the mountains where there is not much alterntives for this. And also for people witch there hotels do not provide early breakfast do appreciate a coffee stop. *We do not include luch at any of our tours. Lunch is optional. Gas Station is also for people who perffer to take snacks and not have lunch at a restaurante. * You received an UPGRADE according to your original booking. * Its NOT a llama farm. This is the last stop we make before getting back to Santiago. Bathroom facilities. Where they have few llamas you may interact with. Thank you

Great tour. Very knowledgeable and reliable experience. The tour guide communicated far in advance that they did not have enough attendees for this so they offered Inca Lagoon and Ski Portillo instead. This was a great time and the perfect scenery and time of year to go.

Great day trip out of Santiago. Benjamin was our guide and Alejandro our driver and they were an excellent pair. The tour is paced nicely and the drive back to Santiago is broken up nicely with stops at the chocolate house and for empanadas. The reservoir is beautiful as is the drive to and from.

The drive from Santiago to the reservoir was very scenic. It was incredible to learn that the reservoir is man made over a period of nine tears.The small towns on the way were cute and interesting.The Maipo river was snaking all along with ferocious rapids ideal for rafting. I had never seen such a howling phenomenon before which was a thrilling experience. Our guide Hector was knowledgeable, experienced, and competent and went to great lengths to make our trip an enjoyable experience. The driver did his job admirably. One thing about the trip though was the pick up time. The first pick up was at 7 am from my hotel which I thought was a bit early considering that we returned from our trip before 5 pm. Because of this timing I was unable to have breakfast which started at 7 am . So, my humble suggestion is that for this particular tour the first pick up should be at 8 am to enable the guest to have breakfast. I may mention here that other longer tours which I took, all had pick up times at 8 am or longer. The Empanada was too bland for my taste.

Thank you for your personal feedback. ***According to the pick up times. In mountain tours pick up times are earlier than any other tour. The simple reason we must travel up to 2,800 even more than 9,000 feet in some tours. So this we can not compare with other normal tours. *** Some Hotels do have early breakfast and in other you may also ask for snacks to take. That is the reason we do make a stop on the way for coffee etc. *** Pick Up times *** Will always depend on the amount of reservations we have and the exact pick up time will also depend on what part of Santiago you may be located. If this is opposite direction of where we will be heading you will have to be picked as the first. We are very Glad you considered this experience as ¨Phenomenon thrilling experience ¨ All long trips makes us think the driving was worth it. And all our mountain tours will make you feel it was worth the ride . Thank you and till next time

Long drive to see a reservoir.

We were interested to see the countryside of Santiago (and interested to learn it was actually within the city boundaries). The unpaved portion of the road past the dam along the reservoir was a bit scary with gypsum rock trucks barreling along a road that was one lane wide some of the time (including some blind curves!). The stop at the Chocolate House on the way back was great (we enjoyed the passion fruit and 64% cacao ice cream flavors). We enjoyed the empanadas with choose-our-own ingredients.

We thank you for this personal feedback. Very important to read the itinerary when we book a tour. Embalse del Yeso is a RESERVIOR. And it is a very natural road. Meaning no concrete to be driving between the Andes Mountains. We do count with profesional drivers that will take this road being caution. The empanadas you may choose your ingredients that is great. We make stops on the way. And its very important to consider that to arrive to beautiful spots of tge andes mountains yes we must drive approx 2 hours. Making stops after the last hotel pick up for coffe etc. Thank you and till next time

This tour is a great full-day experience. It takes you to a stunningly beautiful place somewhat near Santiago and a couple of other smaller but still interesting places. My guide was Benjamin, and he did an awesome job!
