This isnt a cocktail class. Its very much a laboratory where you can experiment with exotic ingredients and expand your knowledge. Our host was funny and informative. Definitely coming back to test out some new cocktail experiments.

      Eh, it was okay

The experience was okay. Our host didn’t even know we were coming. Kind of got half of an explanation. And not really hands on.
      Good times

Good times. A fun way to play with cocktails without having to invest in a million ingredients. Or you can go off the rails and make something truly unhinged.
      What a Bummer!
      Ki_L, Apr 2024
This was a horrible experience. The owner started late.(15min). She was cleaning most of the time. At the beginning she offered a quick run down of how things go. I will never suggest this activity to anyone. We wasted our money and time. She left us hanging, we were literally left to figure everything out on our own. At one point, she talked about herself (about 20 minutes). She knew that we not familiar with mixing drinks ect. Yet she offered little assistance. I could go on and on!!!! Pathetic.
      Response from Host, Apr 2024
Hello! I am so sorry you had a horrible time. I very much enjoyed hosting you and your son and your mother on her birthday! She was so wonderful. Just fyi, I started late because cleaning/sanitizing is my 'madness' for my Mad Scientist Cocktail + Mocktail Lab, and anyway, it usually it takes 10-15 minutes for everyone to get situated. I began with a 15 min lecture to walk you around and show you tricks and tools you have at your fingertips. I don't talk about myself, per se, but I speak about some things I prefer to do from a mad scientist perspective (Please note, if anyone under age is joining, in my listing description I ask you to notify me in advance... unfortunately i didn't have this info, so I had to switch up my liquor permits for the evening to accommodate someone under 21... that takes a bit of time.). Had I known I had someone under age in the group, I would have gone out of my way to get extra kid-focused ingredients (like pop rocks) for him! In this particular case, the [grand] mother (the birthday they were all celebrating) was surprised and had no idea what she walked into. She went through a few drinks and found one she liked.. I was so happy she figured out a drink she liked! She found a dark corner to sit and enjoy her drink, but was away from everyone else. I decided to join her and get a conversation going. She said she loved my chocolate covered almond snacks -- she had eaten all of them -- so I went and re-filled them all so she could eat more. She and I then went into a further and most wonderful conversation... but it seemed like she was finished with concocting drinks. That's ok! My parents are similar, in their 70s, and enjoy one drink... from there, they like to sit around and chat, trying others' concoctions. That's ok! I'm not sure what happened here, but it was never my intention for your group to have a bad experience! Once I discovered it was your mother's birthday, I made it a priority to pay attention to her when she was sitting in a corner by herself. Please note: this lab is advertised as an adult playground. Once I give my lecture, I let you loose and crank up the concocting music. Everyone is most welcome to ask questions or request guidance. I am very much there when people reach out! Just gotta ask. I wish your mother the most wonderful of birthdays. I also was trying to figure out if you had food plans for afterward, and was trying to figure out restaurants that could accommodate someone under 21.
Fun and interesting good thing time

This is not a mixology class, you basically are let loose to try things yourself. You can drink as much as you can handle
      Fun lab

Great fun experience! The tour operator was very responsive & experienced. It’s not a class but a lab you can work on your own

My family and I had a wonderful time with this cocktail and mocktail mixology experience! We enjoyed the energy of the space and opportunity to let our creative juices flow! The experience is great for adults and tweens alike, with many options and fun ingredients. We will definitely be back!
      Tipsy fun

I went with my mother in law and it was so much fun. I would come with a couple crazy ideas to try when you go so you are not overwhelmed with all of the flavor options. It was a great experience and the owner was GREAT!
      Fun, approachable cocktail experimentation
      Jill_R, Feb 2024
I was looking for a fun experience for my friends birthday. The mad scientist cocktail lab didn’t disappoint. you start by picking your scientist name, which is anything except your actual name. Then you get to choose from almost any mixer, ingredient, infusion, technique, and tool under the sun. I got to play around with a smoking gun, infusions, and edible glitter. There are recipes or you can choose your own adventure. It was very approachable, the host was extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and incredibly organized. Would definitely go again!

Create the unthinkable (and sometimes the undrinkable)
      Ellen_K, Jan 2024
Dr. Double Shot & Master MOMnoon brought our six other family members here last night and concocted some delicious (and a couple not delicious) libations in the Mad Scientist Cocktail Lab. Be warned: this is NOT a mixology class! Who knew you could mix vodka w limeade, cardemom bitters, smoked orange peel, fresh cucumber, and I'm not even what else I put in there... and enjoy the result! SUPER FUN evening.
      Overbooked and no assistance
      Barbara_J, Dec 2023
We were looking forward to experience after seeing on evening magazine articles. We didn't get much direction and the activity was overbooked/crowded.
      Response from Host, Jan 2024
Hello we enjoyed hosting you on 12/30. Please accept my apology for accidentally overbooking the event that evening during the busy holiday season. I did invite you all to come back at no cost as a consolation -- please feel free to reach out to us directly to make these arrangements. We thank you for your feedback. Also please note this is definitely not a class, but a lab where you learn through trial and error; more of an adult playground, as described in the tv segment, magazine article as well as listing title and description. It definitely doesn't fit everyone's needs for a more conventional-style class. Through feedback on this site, we hope potential clients can make a better educated decision if this is a fitting workshop for them. Cheers! ~jen

      A fun time with family
      Philip_P, Nov 2023
A wide range of potential ingredients, mixers and liquors allowed much experimentation and creativity. The mad scientific was full of ideas and gave good guidance when we asked for it. Hope to come back and bring additional family
      Fun & Unique Experience
      Meghan_A, Nov 2023
I booked this as a five year anniversary gift for my boyfriend. We had so much fun! There are so many interesting ingredients you can use, with endless combinations. We'll definitely be going again!
      Response from Host, Nov 2023
Wonderful to meet and host you both! Thank you for the great review. See you next time. Cheers! ~jen
Unique to Seattle and a great find
      Natalie_B, Sep 2023
This was so fun! Great idea for small groups or work event. You should have a bit of an idea of flavor profiles but the host encourages you to try new things and you can always start over if you don't like what you made! A couple people in my group were a bit intimidated by the vast options but once they got comfortable they had a blast.
The Ultimate Mixology Experience: A Bartending Laboratory for Cocktail Enthusiasts
      Jennifer_W, May 2023
I have signed up for this experience several times now. I can invite new friends who have never attended, and I can take my own bartending skills to the next level at the same time. The host will specially curate the lab for repeat visitors, even if it is in a mix with new guests! Just let her know what you want to focus on and she'll do the research and get the necessary tools/additional supplies to make it happen. It is so much fun to have essentially a whole bar at my disposal to experiment with. Hundreds of ingredients, dozens of techniques. Location is picture perfect along Pike street by Capitol Hill area; just don't drive! Take lightrail - that's my suggestion. Do anything but drive because parking is a nightmare, as it is a busy area -- Starbucks Reserve Roastery and Convention Center are all within 1 block -- I know uber is expensive, but why not park in one of the free lightrail lots (like by northgate, for instance) and just cruise on in? So much less stress than dealing with parking. I highly recommend this experience, and the host is most willing to fine-tune the experience for you -- the best restaurants are on the same block!! -- for instance, if you want fresh oysters personally delivered from Taylor Shellfish, the host will help you make that happen without the need to wait in line. Can just have it delivered to the lab for you! Of course that doesn't just automatically happen, but message the host and she'll set it all up.
Cocktail and Mocktail Class that brings out your creativity!
      Theresa_C, May 2023
I was looking for an interactive activity to do with friends and found the Cocktail / Mocktail lab. Our instructor guided us through different ways of building a drink with or without alcohol, it was like I was in my own cocktail class and learning best ways to do it myself at home. I can see this being a fun team building event, which I'll strongly consider. Such a good time, the laughs and creativity really came out!
Unleashing My Inner Mad Scientist: An Exhilarating Experiment at the Heart of Seattle
      Himanshu_Y, May 2023
This was so much fun. Now, don't be confused - this is not a how-to class. This is a literal lab. You're introduced to the space and then let loose to let the Mad Scientist in you go wild. We had a blast and walked away with some tips and tricks that will inevitably bleed into my everyday life. We had literally hundreds of ingredients, dozens of techniques - infusions, smoking, mixing, shaking and more. Great experience. Excellent location: just 2 blocks away from the Seattle Convention Center, and next door to the Starbucks Reserve Roastery. I could easily take the light rail to the downtown or Capitol Hill station without having to worry where to park. The venue is an open-air loft space perched above the indoor Melrose Market, just straight up the street from Pike Place. The market hall is inside an historic building, which used to be a series of automotive shops. Great photo ops with all of the old timber beams, exposed brick, dark wood fixtures, and the daytime natural light. The lab coats provided were a bonus for excellent selfies. The space has programmable lighting and sonos speaker system where we changed the ambiance and rocked out to music as we experimented. Loved the vibe of the place. I will go again to take my concocting to the next level, and bring more friends along with me.
