Fantastic Guide

My guide, BJ, was awesome. The trip to the DMZ was quite chaotic. I was frankly not expecting such a set up. However, BJ expertly negotiated us through the crowds so it made the tour enjoyable. BJ was also an excellent communicator and he also provided me with important facts about Korean history as we went through the tour. Best of all, BJ was very personable as the tour felt more like going on a day trip with a friend instead of a random stranger. I guve BJ my highest recommendations.

Private tour worth the money and time

Fantastic trip. Wasn’t keen on going in the beginning as it seemed like a very long day (up to 12 hours), but it was my favorite tour that we did during our 4 days in Seoul. You really miss out on a huge piece of Korean/American/Soviet history if you don’t take this tour. Alphonso, my tour guide was very knowledgeable and speaks excellent English. Since it is obligatory to serve in the Korean military he has lots of first hand stories of life working with the US military in the 90’s. I highly recommend a private tour over a group tour to the DMZ. It’s much less hectic and completely personalized even though we do travel as a group to the actual destinations within the DMZ.

DMZ experience is incredible

Picked up at 7am, driver spoke English pretty well and told us a little about Seoul overall. We got to the DMZ park area around 8:30 and he went to wait in line for tickets. We got some breakfast and just hung out until we got tickets, about an hour. Tickets were for 10:30am so we spent the next hour or so walking around to different sites in the park. Guide explained some of the details around what was what. Then we got on the bus with everyone else for the 10:30 time and went over to the DMZ. the 3rd tunnel and observatory were amazing. It was a very clear day and we could see everything on the NK side. Then we returned and went to lunch/ the suspension bridge. We had an awesome bulgogi lunch but didnt realize the suspension bridge was such a hike, my stomach was not happy. Wish we wouldve done that before lunch or knew so we didn't eat so much before. Overall seems like 80% of this could be done in a larger group tour, but the flexibility & comfort of the private tour was worth it to us for such a long day. There is a lot of waiting/driving involved. Departure to return we were out for 10hrs. Probably 3 hrs driving, 2 hrs waiting, .5hr guided tour around the DMZ park, 3 hrs guided in the DMZ itself, 1hr lunch, .5hr suspension bridge hike. Definitely a unique experience I would recommend.

Thank you for the detail review. But it could not be 5 hours hiking for the Suspension bridge area. It could be about 90 min total.

Group of 8 travelling comfortably in the private van with Shane (tour guide). Shane is an experienced tour guide and it showed with his knowledge throughout the day and navigating us to the best vantage points. We thoroughly enjoyed the local lunch and they were able to accommodate for dietaries (not easy!).

Great Way to Visit the DMZ

A great way to visit the DMZ and other sites. BJ, our guide, was the best. He has a wealth of knowledge of the history of South Vietnam which really added to our experience in visiting the DMZ and several of the war memorials. We love the restaurant we visited for lunch. It was filled with local military personnel so we knew the food would be great. I also liked the fact that we could adjust the sites we visited.

My guide was B.J. Kwon. Excellent guide, very friendly and had a deep knowledge of Korean history. When the planned spot for lunch was unexpectedly closed, he drove to another one he knew. Would recommend this tour.

Very well organized and efficient tour. Best to do this tour with an experienced guide like Shane. He kept our group going on time from one site to another. The included lunch at a family owned Korean traditional restaurant was yummy. Great overall experience.

Overwhelming History!

Since it was a late morning start at 9am, my tour guide BJ Woo and I arrived at Imjingak after 10am and we were unable to acquire tickets for the DMZ until 2:30pm. The weather was rainy as well which meant that his offer of taking me to a suspension bridge was a little risky so we opted out, but all the mishaps did not stop him from giving me a full course in the history of Korea overall. As a former military officer, BJ was so knowledgeable about the suffering South Korea went through since long ago, and I listened to all of the deeper details American education leaves out from the classroom with empathetic awe! During the car rides to and at Imjingak and Gloster Hill Memorial Park, he shared the history with great passion and I could see he held deep respect for the foreign forces who came to South Korea’s aid during the many strifes they were involved in. Having both spent years in America, we really bonded and talked about our personal lives separate from the tour, so I was sad when our time together came to an end. I hope he enjoys his 70th birthday with his “boss lady” wife to the fullest! Thank you very much, BJ!

Excellent Driver/Tour Guide for party of 8

Shane Ha picked up our party of 8 from our hotel for a full day tour of the DMZ and The Red Suspension Bridge. He was a very good driver concentrating on the road until we got to our destinations and then he became our tour guide giving us very interesting information about what we were seeing. He also very patient helping my husband to order a lunch that was gluten free. We highly recommend Shane.
