The basics

Though the Federal Reserve conducts business year-round, the Atlanta Monetary Museum is also an educational tourist attraction unique to any other Federal Reserve. Self-guided and guided tours provide an in-depth look at how the Federal Reserve supports the U.S. economy using interactive exhibits, photos, and videos. In addition to the museum, you’ll see the cash-processing areas and the automated vault when taking the guided tours.

When to get there

You don’t need to schedule a visit for self-guided tours of the Monetary Museum, but you must be in a group of nine or fewer. These tours are available from morning until late afternoon throughout the week; this coincides with regular downtown business hours, so anticipate heavy traffic getting into Midtown. For scheduled group tours, arrive a few minutes before your appointment and remember the limited spots available fill up months in advance.

Explore more of ATL’s government buildings

The Federal Reserve may be the only federal building you can tour in Atlanta, but it’s not the sole government building opening its doors to visitors. The Georgia Governor’s Mansion and the Georgia State Capitol and Museum are open to the public. Both also require reservations. The Capitol is only 3 miles (4.8 kilometers) south of the Federal Reserve, while the Governor’s Mansion is 5 miles (8 kilometers) north.
