Located 25 miles (40 kilometers) upriver from New Orleans, Destrehan Plantation is the oldest documented plantation house in the Lower Mississippi Valley. Learn about life in the antebellum South while wandering the grounds among ancient oak trees.
We had a wonderful time at this property. We had a small group, just my husband, myself and my mother. Our tour guide, Beverly, was absolutely amazing!!! We really enjoyed her tour and she answered all of our questions. She also took the time to learn our names since it was a small group. The property itself is beautifully taken care of and we enjoyed taking time after the tour to walk around the property and take photos. Highly recommended if you are in the area.
Trish was an excellent guide! We throughly enjoyed the house and grounds tour and, after looking at the pictures, think we might have captured a few of the resident haints at Destrehan!
The tour guide was fantastic. Our group of 4 received great attention and we learned many new things. Easy afternoon or morning thing to do. Highly recommended.
You definitely need to book this! The Plantation was fascinating, and the Airboat tour was just amazing! Our guides on both tours were absolutely fantastic. Can't recommend enough 😀
This experience was efficiently run with good communication. Our tour guides were knowledgable and very interactive. Got a good history of the plantation life and an "up close and personal expeience with alligators. Good value for our money. I would stronly suggest that guests be advised, that in addition to bringing water, guests should bring substantial snacks as food avaiaiblity is quite limited.
The Destrehan Plantation tour was excellent. The docent was fantastic. We wish we had more time to spend there. The swamp tour was just okay. If you want to see alligators then it may be your thing. We saw no other wildlife. There were many people on this trip, and it was a hot day. I just was not impressed, but I’ve seen alligators before in the wild. I would highly recommend the plantation tour if you love Louisiana history. It is very evident that all their employees love their jobs!
I really enjoyed hearing the history of the plantation over the years. I also appreciated the guided portion, then being allowed to wander on our own after.
So much fun! The plantation tour was very educational, but the swamp tour was the best! Beautiful and lots of fun! Definitely seen Gators! Big ones too! And best part they brought out a little baby one for us to hold! 10/10 great experience for our first time to Louisiana.
