Bitola, or also known as Monastir during the Ottoman Empire, was and still is an important town: It was established by Philip II, father of Alexander The Great; It is on the Ancient Roman Road of Via Egnatia; and it was the town where the international community decided to open consulates to the Ottoman Empire. Today, Bitola is a town with a wealth of cultures intertwined in its streets and residents. Likewise, the remnants of a once thriving Jewish community are scattered throughout the town, and blended in the everyday life as a memory. In this tour we visit the oldest Jewish cemetery in the Balkans, we walk through the old Jewish neighbourhood to see where the Jewish once people lived, visit the Old Bazaar to see where the Jewish people once worked, and we see the many monuments that the local people of Bitola enacted in memory of their fellow citizens. In the process we learn also about the rich history of Bitola and its tasty cuisine.

This is a half-day tour that takes you to the town of Struga riding along the north-east coast of Lake Ohrid. You will have an opportunity to have lunch enjoying the view of river Crn Drim in the center of Struga, buy some local goods from the open market and visit Nezlobinski Museum – the unique presenter of the natural and cultural heritage of the region of Lake Ohrid – UNESCO, with over 10,000 examples of flora and stuffed fauna from the Ohrid and Prespa region. Moreover, you will see the famous square Macedonian square, the stone bridge, the old bazaar, mosques and the church St. Spas known for her particular iconostasis. Before roaming the city, with the given free time, by yourself, you will visit the scars of the earthquake of 1963 and enter the forged house of non-other than holy Mother Teresa. Interesting fact: Did you know that Roman emperor Justinian l, was born in Tauresium, which is located in the region of Skopje. He was the only byzantine emperor that succeeded reconquering Rome.

Ohrid is fully decorated with historical, cultural and religious gems. Some of these remaining’s dates back from the antiquity. With her specific architecture Ohrid attracts a growing number of tourists each year, but as an alternative destination still remains calm. Since 1979, the old city and the lake of Ohrid are both listed as UNESCO world heritage. During this city tour you will visit various highlights, such as the statue of St. Kliment, the boulevard, the 13th century church of St. Sofija, amphitheater and many more. After a coffee break you will further explore the vibrant old city, until you reach the world-famous church St. John Kaneo.
