Efter den bekväma hotellhämtningen i en luftkonditionerad buss, sjunk ner i en bekväm plats för resan uppför berget. Gör ett stopp på Kula Lodge Marketplace där du kan uppleva konsten och kulinariska talanger hos Maui och Hawaiis kända konstnärer och hantverkare.

Efter ett stopp vid Haleakala Park Visitor Center på cirka 7 000 fot (2 134 m), gör den sista, slingrande, push mot vulkanens magnifika topp. Kraterutsikten ligger precis under toppen på 9 740 fot (2 969 m), och det finns en god chans att du kommer att vara en av de enda människorna där. Titta på den färgglada kratern med dess släta, släta, måniga kottar och titta över den orangea horisonten till topparna på Big Island i fjärran. Efter att ha stannat kvar för att se stjärnorna blinka högt över vulkanen, börjar du din nedstigning från berget med kvällen som avslutas med en bekväm avresa direkt tillbaka till ditt hotell.

The driver picked us up...

The driver picked us up at our hotel, asked if we were Hoffman and pointed his thumb to go take a seat. Then he drove 45 minutes as silent as could be not once did he say hello but his name was. Then he pulled into a Safeway parking lot. Then we sat there for an hour. He did not say what we were doing there. My daughter had to stand up and ask him why we were sitting here. His communication sucked and I would not recommend this to anybody because what we expected was the total opposite. Do not recommend.

Worth every penny. Still super cold and requires some planning on what to eat. I suggest being prepared with layers and snacks. Otherwise it was a spiritual experience. Heaven is the only word that comes close.

The views were amazing, the sunset breathtaking. It was cold, glad had worn jeans and a sweatshirt. Our driver/ tour guide Mitchel was great, very knowledgeable and very interesting to listen to, telling us about what we were seeing and pointing out interesting details.

The Haleakala Sunset Tour was a highlight of our stay in Maui. Mitch, the tour host, provided excellent historical commentary while driving. So glad we did not try to drive to Haleakala ourselves; the road was very narrow with multiple switchbacks. Tip:bring food or snacks and water. Fellow travelers did not obey the time indicated to return to the bus at the first stop causing us to be late getting up the mountain. Luckily, we did make it in time to see the amazing sunset. Thank you Mitch for your excellent driving.

Great experience, but poorly organized

I was traveling with my sister and my mother. We absolutely loved the sunset experience on top of Haleakala. Our driver Mitch was great as well. However, I am sorry to say that I would NOT recommend this particular tour. First of all, the waiting time to pick up and drop off passengers from different hotels was too long. We also had to change buses once. Although we were okay with no food, I think we could have been at least provided with water instead of being advised to buy it at the supermarket. The worst thing that happened to us was that another traveler’s full water bottle was accidentally thrown from the top shelf and hit my mom’s head very hard, which sort of ruined the trip for us as she was in pain all the time and we were worried she might need emergency medical care.The Tour is responsible for informing everyone about the winding road and NOT let anything be placed on the top shelves. We were lucky this was only a plastic bottle. Last but not least, we were looking forward to the stargazing experience after the sunset as I remember reading that in the description of the tour. But it did not happen and we were urged to leave immediately to avoid the traffic. Just as a comparison, I paid the same amount of money for another tour the day before and that one included pick up and drop off from any location, food and water, and plenty of time to visit each scenic spot. This tour definitely needs improvement and a much better organization.

The sunset was beautiful beyond words. To say it may be cold is an understatement, travelers to the top MUST take very warm clothing. The view is worth the climb (and the temperature).

The driver was fantastic, cousin Mitch was fun to listen to as we drove up the mountain. We had some clouds and didn’t get a full view of the sunset but the on the drive down, the clouds parted and it was beautiful.

Nettie was our driver. She was outstanding. So very knowledgeable and entertaining. She even sang for us and played the ukulele. She told us the history of the Hawaiians and demonstrated how much she loved the mountain. She actually made the trip wonderful! The weather was so bad that our sunset was very cold and rainy. We did very much enjoy the ride up the mountain. So glad we went!

Our tour guide, Nettie, was very pleased with herself and continually told us how experienced, knowledgeable, and wonderful she was. But we didn’t get to the National Parks Visitor Center because she was too busy talking and sucking up for tips while poorly singing with her ukulele. Sunset was very nice though. Disappointing overall. Had really wanted to get to the NPS Visitor Center and had called to confirm that we would be able to with this tour. But it didn’t happen thanks to our tour guide and her talking and waiting and talking and waiting….

Our driver, Cousin Mitch, showed us a wonderful time! We learned about the area along the way. We stopped at a market. Then, it was all topped off with a gorgeous sunset. Living on Lake Michigan, I am fortunate to enjoy beautiful sunsets, but it was so different to be above the cloud line and see such beauty. Mitch knew where to get the best photos. I was also thankful for his expert driving skills, especially on this long and winding road.
