An excellent gourmet experience
Anastasia_R, Mar 2020
Our guide Mia was very knowlegable regarding the food scene in Auckland and gave many recommendations. The establishments we visited were first class and the food delicious. We were able to try dishes that we would not have usually ordered. Highly recommended for all foodies.
Great value tour

We had a wonderful experience with our guide Mimi. She is very knowledgeable of the great places to enjoy good food and drink in the Auckland CBD. Every place she took us to was most enjoyable. I can highly recommend this great value for money tour.
Not what I was expecting
Anita_G, Mar 2020
Mimi was very friendly and knowledgeable. Our first stop for wine and cheese was great - we tasted several NZ wines along with some very good local cheeses. Exactly what I was expecting on a food tour in NZ. Our second stop was a Chinese restaurant - surprising as this was not what I was expecting. Nonetheless, I was willing to give it a try. After a lot of talk about the preparation of one of their most popular dishes, Peking Duck, I was looking forward to trying it. It wasn't included in the offering. :-( Perhaps they could have focused on something that we were actually going to taste… The third stop was fine and we did have green lipped mussels which are a NZ delicacy I'd never heard of in the states. Recognize that this tour is focused on "Gourmet" more than "Auckland". I've been on several food tours in several countries and the food has always centered around the specific country and the discussion around the country's cuisine and it's history relative to food. This one did not. Mimi shared history of the region but it did not focus on cuisine. The tour also did not include dessert. We ducked into both a chocolate shop and a popular ice cream shop early in the tour. I assumed that since we didn't try anything at these places something even better was planned for dessert. Not the case. First food tour I've ever taken that did not end with dessert. An okay tour, not a great tour.
Feel like an Auckland insider

I did not have time to research where locals go in Auckland to enjoy delicious food, preferably food not found in the States. Enter Mimi from Gourmet W&F and the problem was more than solved. Can't recommend this tour enough for tasty, fun and off-the-beaten-track places to sample the best Auckland offers. The fabulous Mimi can also supply local color and history.
Great intro to Auckland
andrewdvernon, Feb 2020
Clear offer and joining instructions. Our guide,Mimi, was a pleasure to meet. Clearly enthusiastic about her city , it’s history and it’s food offer. Each venue visited was different and we were served by informative welcoming staff. The walk took us to parts of town we’d never have seen. The food and wine excellent, plus a taste of beer and rice wine at the Chinese restaurant. A great tour well run and decent value. I’d recommend doing this early in a visit as it acquaints you with the city Centre and gives time to make bookings for dining out.

Great food, great guide, lovely city
Kerry S, Apr 2019
Had a very interesting and tasty food and wine tour of Auckland with Louise. The restaurants we visited were exceptional and the staff welcomed us warmly and were attentive and informative. Louise had clearly prepared well, knew the staff in the restaurants, and was an informative guide without being pushy or obtrusive. Would highly recommend this tour.

Susan took us to some fabulous restaurants where we tried some dishes we probably wouldnt have tried had we been on our own. The food was exceptional, the staff were incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and helpful, and the New Zealand wines were excellent. Now we know what wines to purchase and some restaurants to frequent.

We had so much fun with MiMi walking to the various establishments on our food and wine tour! Every stop was so enjoyable as we sampled the delicious foods and New Zealand wines. We had great conversation the whole tour amongst ourselves as well as with the chefs and staff where we sampled the delicious menus. On our last stop we ended up staying for dinner sitting at the bar facing the kitchen and chatting up the staff as they prepared the food. Overall it was one of our most enjoyable tours in New Zealand and highly recommend this tour with MiMi. Glen Hallford San Francisco, CA staff the during the whole tour and the while time and with great conversation. Mimi is a wealth of a wealth of
Mimi's Gourmet Wine and Food Tour...
claudia.venable, Jan 2018
Mimi's Gourmet Wine and Food Tour was ridiculously enjoyable! My husband and I really felt that we had won some kind of lottery. Imagine sitting at 4 acclaimed Auckland restaurants, basically one on one with chefs and assistants, enjoying pairings of delectable appetizer portions of some of the most creative and eclectic dishes, along with wine tastings to match. Because the tour meets late afternoon you seem to have the full commitment of the staff. Most memorable, if I had to pick, were the mussels dripping in butter and ginger sauce, followed by he/she cocktails made by the Auckland famous bartender, Jesus. The Wine Chambers reminded us of Paris, but the delightful Martina described it was really inspired by a German restaurant. We loved it all so much, we were inspired to continue in the evening at another one of Martinas restaurants, Number 5, where we continued to delight in fabulous Auckland food heaven. We could go on... but Mimi made it all such a wonderful continuous pleasure with her knowledge of Auckland's history and her clear connection and relationship with the restaurants on her tour. If you are in Auckland.. this is a must and will provide you with eating out ideas for the rest of your time in Auckland.

Jan R, Dec 2017
This was the best way to get to know the downtown area and food options. Wine and accompanying food were good the tour is timed so that you visit the restaurants shortly before their evening opening, so there is a chance to meet the chef or owner at the venues. Our guide was absolutely wonderful! Do it!

Mimi, your the best. This is for...
Ed_H, Mar 2017
Mimi, your the best. This is for sure a 5 star tour. On our 3 week trip to Australia and New Zealand, having booked 8 tours through Viator this tour was the best of them. The food was excellent and the wine was some of the best I have ever had. This is an easy walking tour, very informative. The restaurants were all waiting for us, table set, food and wine ready and no sales pitch for buying the wine or returning for dinner. They were all excellent restaurants and we did return to one of them for dinner. Mimi is very personable and an great guide. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you Mimi your the best!!!!

Ragnar G, Feb 2017
In February we took this splendid tour of downtown Auckland's most appealing restaurants. Known to the owners of each venue, Mimi's familiarity with the offerings provided a delicious cross-section through the city'd variety of foods and wines. We started with perfectly fresh oysters at the harbourside, and finished several stops later at a trendy and expertly avant-garde Indian eatery called Cassia. Our favourite we returned a week later, changing our itinerary just to enjoy lunch there. And throughout the tour, Mimi pointed out spots of interest and revealed the fast-changing history of Auckland's dining scene. This was a great experience in itself, and an irreplaceable introduction to the offerings of the city's CBD. Knowledgable and sunny, Mimi was the ideal guide. If you enjoy dining out, don't hesitate to book her tour.

Arvid O, Feb 2017
Mimi took us to the most interesting restaurants and bars in Auckland. She is very knowledgable about the food, wine and history of New Zealand. It was a six star experience.
Mimi was an excellent tour guide...
John W, Nov 2016
Mimi was an excellent tour guide showing us the out of the way places in downtown Auckland. We like taking these tours the first day after arrival to find where the locals eat and avoid the tourist focused restaurants where you pay more and get less. We sampled food and wine during the walk at five local restaurants: Italian, Jewish, French, Artisan, and German. They were all excellent, we stayed at the last in the tour for dinner and returned to two of the other ones ran out of time to return to the other two!. She shared her thoughts on the local culture and foods. Suggest this as a first tour if you are staying in Auckland for any time.
