We pick up guests from all Auckland Downtown CBD accommodation (Hotels, BNBs, Backpackers etc). You will be advised your pickup time within 24 hours of your booking. Please be ready and waiting for our yellow Mercedes-Benz transportation 5 minutes before your advsied pick up time. Those staying outside the Downtown CBD area, your pick up will be at the Sky Tower in the middle of Downtown Auckland

Took the Hobbiton only tour from Auckland. Mike was a fantastic driver and tour guide. I haven't seen any of the movies or read the books but I still had a great time. There was some construction going on at the movie set but it didn't take away from the experience. Anyone coming should try the delicious food at the Shire and Green Dragon Inn.

Great tour. Only...

Great tour. Only drawback was vehicle taken to the tour site was not very comfortable over the 2 hour drive each way. Driver was great and provided information on the scenery.

Thank you for sharing your comments and particularly that you had a "Great Tour." We are disappointed that the comfort level of our air-conditioned Mercedes Benz didn't meet your expectation. All our 20 tours are small intimate group tours. We have a fleet of 12, 15 and 17 seater Mercedes Benz with leather and sculptured fabric seating which are at the absolute premium for passenger vehicles. We do not operate any of the 50-60-70 seater coaches. We want all our tours to be small and personal which enables our touring teams to truly connect with each and every one of our guests so that they have a very special experience. Liked everything except we felt rushed. Would definitely recommend it to others. Michael, our driver and tour guide was very professional, knowledgeable, had great stories to share, and funny. He also gave good recommendations for the rest of our time in Auckland.

The Hobbiton Movie Set Tour is a Set Advertised 2-Hour Tour with a specialist Hobbiton Movie Set guide, so regrettably we have no control over this; though from 1 December it will be increased by Hobbiton to 2.5 hours. We love your headline " Great time even if you know nothing." This is so true. 1 million visitors go to Hobbiton annually. Half have never read any of the Tolkein books or watched any of the movies. This is a stand alone tour where you can just marvel at the intricate detail, how well the set is manicured and the attention to detail. Of course, LOTR fans will love it, but you don't have to be an LOTR fan to enjoy our magical and enchanting experience. It was a privilege hosting you. Thank you sincerely for choosing our tour.

This is the best tour experience I’ve ever had. Michael was phenomenal from beginning to end of our tour. He was so welcoming, friendly, funny, and informative during our tour. On the drive there and back, he allowed space for us to enjoy the views and take it all in. Everything was perfect the whole time. I will do this tour again every year!!! I’d give it 10 stars if I could!

A Hobbiton visit as a solo traveller

My trip to Hobbiton Movie Set was an incredible experience thanks to Michael, our driver for the day! Our small group consisted with a group of 5, a duo and a solo, me, but we were introduced to each other by Michael's natural icebreakers questions, about LOTR/Hobbit. He was very diligent on the roads and shared a lot of information of our surroundings and the Hobbiton Movie Set on our way to the set. He also answered to every enquiries asked along the way. On the set itself, he helped us collect our tour tickets and helped us take photo at the starting point and end point of the tour where he met us and collected us to bring us back to Auckland. Michael also made pitstops during the drive through and from the movie set, for ice cream/ to stretch our legs.

Yes, in our travel to Hobbiton (2 hours) we stop halfway to break the journey and similarly on our return. Our experience is that our guests want to get to Hobbiton as quickly as possible so that they have ample free time to enjoy a snack at the Shire's Rest, explore the Shire before their tour, take photos and visit the Hobbiton Gift Store. Our tour guide David was fantastic. He was really knowledgeable and entertaining. He made a real effort with all of us on the tour and remembered all our names and details about us making the trip feel really personable. Hobbiton itself was a great one - even if you’re not a fan of the films you get to experience the whole thing which is fun. A must do if you’re in New Zealand.

A Well-Organzied Tour

This tour was well organized and our guide was excellent. It is not easy to keep to a timely agenda when you are traveling long distances and making multiple stops. Even so, we were given plenty of time to enjoy the Hobbiton movie set and the Waitomo Caves. During the longer rides, our guide provided useful NZ background information, pointed out sites of interest, gave recommendations, & answered questions. Overall it was a very pleasant experience.

Whether you’re planning a short or long stay this tour is must. Hobbiton is truly magical nothing quite like it. The tour of the set was well organized in groups of 40 spaced out far enough which allows a leisurely pace for taking pictures. Waitomo cave was great add on and worth the stop seeing the glowworms was a great way to wrap up the day! Also appreciated our tour guide Nick who gave us lots of great Auckland knowledge including some great options for dinner!

Great early bird tour, what a experienced NIck !!

When Vitor told us that we had to catch up a early-bird drive (set off at 6:15 a.m.) to Hobbiton, we were more or less felt reluctant. Nick, our drive/guide, shown up on time, and the sky then was still dark. We were among the first batch of visitors arrived Hobbiton around 8:30 a.m. and took the first forward bus to the site. Thanks Nick, the morning sun light is perfect for photo taking and there were not too much people crowded at the site. The early bird tour was a absolute success. When we left, floods of visitors poured in, and the overhead sunlight was not good for the pictures. Thanks Nick again for his experience suggestion !!
