I've been on the big Island about a month, and decided on this tour late into my stay, wanted to see the green sand beach and ride an ATV (I like to ride motorcycles). This tour was great. First, it's small, two quads and a guide. Other tours are bigger, like 12 people. Once you drive these roads, you'll get why this is better. Second, if you read the fine print on other tours, you don't actually go to the green sand beach but the green sand "cove." You really want to see both. Finally, the ride is leisurely, you don't have to have a lot of experience riding, it's really a nice way to spend a day.
You stop in the green sand cove, on the volcanic cliffs where you will see sea turtles (sea was a little rough, so we only say them swimming but on a warm, clear day, I hear they come out on the rocks) and of course, the green sands beach.
The quads are newer, well maintained, more utility quads than performance machines but that is what you want on this trail, which can get a little rough but easy on these ATV 's. Easy to drive and with lots of room for two people and to strap your backpacks.
My opinion, if you want to see the green sand beach and a lot more, this is the way to do it. Sure you can drive there and walk, or pay $40 to stand in the back of an old pickup truck driven by a local who probably hasn't started shave yet, or you can do this. Read all the fine print on the few ATV tours to this beach, I think this one is probably the best.
