First, their directions to find the way out of the port area to the parking lot is very confusing. I had no idea where to find the "dolphin" area. It said to go straight... I found no Dolphin area going straight. On the return back to the ship, I did see it. I would've had to go far to the left coming in off our ship.
Best advice - follow the evacuation signs on the building. To the right of the Mayan Staircase you will see a set of double doors (or as in my picture) and opening from the doors being open. Go out those doors and head to the yellow security building in the distance looking left. You'll walk along that sidewalk until you have to cross over to the right and Charlie will probably be waiting for you. He doesn't work for the company LOL... but he walks you down to the restaurant. He was nice enough so I gave him a couple bucks.
The girl who greeted me inside the restaurant was very nice, she offered me a drink while she called for the taxi to come pick me up to take me to the restaurant. Word of caution. The steps up to and down into the restaurant are extremely steep.
Taxi came and picked me up and took me to the beach. Sue met the taxi driver there, and greeted me. I did tip the taxi driver. She walked me down to the small area they have of the beach. I was quite surprised, as it really didn't look much like their pictures. Their lounge chairs are all crammed together except for the very front row. There was little shade available. The chairs that did have shade, one of the massage girls little children were occupying 3 of the chairs and I didn't want to be in the same space with little kids. (not saying they weren't good - just not my idea of how I wanted to spend my time). So I struggled to pick a spot that would be shaded. I landed on the canopy bed that has open slats, so it wasn't fully shaded. It had a sheet on it and some pillows that I see in other travelers pictures, so I'm wondering how often those items are cleaned... luckily I had two towels with me from the ship so I just laid those over the pillows and towels. The area to the right of the bed, just beyond the foot of the bed was littered with trash. I mean littered. Like a small dump. It was so disappointing to see, and too bad they don't make sure that isn't seen from their area of the beach.
Their whole area (which was very small) felt so very cramped with too many tables and chair and lounge chairs. It was difficult maneuvering between everything. I think they should do away with some of those table and chairs so they can space out the lounge chairs better.
Staff was very nice. Sue and two other gentlemen checked on me often to see if I needed food or drink. The massage was great - though again, I'm unsure if they are changing the towels on the bed between people. And the other odd thing, she rubbed my feet without cleaning them then went back to rub my back and head again. But she did a good job otherwise and I felt like that was worth the most of the day.
The bathroom is in the restaurant. I had some difficulty with one of the toilets, I even removed the tank lid and tried to flush the toilet, but it wouldn't flush. I told Sue and she came back and said it flushed for her. I don't know why it wouldn't for me...
I ordered one Pina Colada and it was okay... I had several bottles of water. I ordered the beef fajitas and chips and salsa, and again it was just okay. The rice was very good, the beans were foul tasting. The chips were cold and because they are handmade they just weren't good being cold.
A table was left with food on it for some time. A local dog came to the table 3 times and ate every last bit of leftovers off the table. It was about another 10 to 15 minutes afterwards that I saw Sue and told her the dog and come and ate all the leftover food at the table. It took this dog over 15 minutes to go back and forth 3 times to get food, run off with it, come back and so on. And it was not busy. It was myself, and 4 other women at their spot on the beach.
I decided I had enough of the day and asked to get a rid back. Sue was confused a few times that I was on their VIP package. I had to remind her I was supposed to have an included ride back. She walked me down to the taxi area and I got a ride back just before the security hut you need to look for when you exit into the parking lot. I did tip all the workers at the beach before I left as well, and the massage girl so I would say with all the tips I paid I spent an additional $35 on top of what I already paid. If I hadn't had some rewards to apply to my booking, that would've been an awful lot for what it was. Now granted, I could've had more to drink I suppose, but I wasn't there to drink. Oh and you will be pestered about every 15 minutes or so by some vendor trying to sell their wares or get a henna tattoo or braids. MOST left when I said no the first time.
The plus side of this for a beach stop if you are on a cruise ship, it is much closer than some of the other excursion choices for a beach - so that may be worth it alone to a lot of people.
