What To Expect

Your tour begins in central Florence, where you hop aboard your coach with your guide and head into the region of Umbria. Stop first in the beautiful town of Assisi, made famous by its ties to St. Francis. Now known as Italy's patron saint, Francis left the wealth of his family behind in the 13th century to preach on Assisi’s streets.

Follow your guide by foot to the Basilica of San Francesco, which hosts Giotto’s famous frescoes depicting St. Francis’ life. Continue on to the Convent of Santa Chiara, dedicated to St. Clare, one of Francis’ first followers in Assisi.

Hop aboard your coach and drive to the outskirts of town to see Santa Maria degli Angeli, a 9th-century church where it’s said St. Francis came to worship. Explore the interior with your guide before making your way back to your coach.

Head next to Orvieto, perched on a cliff, for a guided tour of its town. Admire the Gothic architecture of the Duomo, with its beautiful stained glass windows, and the St. Patrick's Well.

After, travel back to central Florence to conclude your tour.

Please note: the order of the visits to Assisi and Orvieto are subject to change on the day of your tour.

Great tour! Cortona was very charming and didn’t realize the history of the churches in Assisi, very interesting. All the churches are so beautiful and breath taking views from both towns! Our tour guide was great and very knowledgeable about all the history in Assisi. Well worth a visit!

Don't do it!
Ingrid_R, Apr 2024
If you want to shop, and also experience asisi religious beauty don't book this trip. Although our guide was nive. There is no t enough time to do anything but run place to place. Also the recommend restaurant was horrible, the food no good and the staff was very rude.
I thought this was a guided tour

First the beginning process was easy as we gathered and boarded a very nice bus. Our guide started off well by giving background information on Italy and the region. It started going downhill when she took us to the middle of Orvieto and abandoned us. We lost about 30% of the people and caused us an almost 1 hour delay. More of the same followed in Assisi where we were handed off to a local guide who did a good job. She had trouble synching with the original guide and caused us to tour the main church by ourselves. I would not recommend this tour to anyone.
Assisi and Orvieto

Unfortunately it was rainy and cold. But it was an interesting trip into the Umbrian countryside. The destinations were worth it. We were concerned about our driver’s lack of attention to the road. He continually carried on a conversation with our guide and kept turning his head to look at him taking his eyes off the road. Not only my group but others appeared nervous. Our guide Constantino was very good. Solicitous and caring.
Ok for transportation

Thank you for organizing the tour, but it just ok tour for quality and price, they can be a bit better
Worthwhile climb into history

Memorable tours of beautiful towns. The medieval Orvietto was beautiful and on my own I probably would never have known to go there. My goal was Assisi and Orvietto was just a side trip. I would move there. It was so charming. There is lots of walking and this town is full of steep walkways and stairs. The view out over the landscape is breathtaking. Assisi is also a challenge for walking, but worth every step. The Basilica is something you will never forget. The lower and upper chapels capture history with work by Giotto and Ciambue are highlights.
Great spots, just okay tour

While the towns were incredible and the guides were good, it was a bit overdone. The last stop of the day at the lake felt unnecessary. Very long day with lots of people. Would rather do a private tour and spend the extra money. There was minimal free time and what little time we had felt very rushed. Good basically threatened to leave without those that were not back on time. 50 minutes for lunch in Cortona and about 45-50 in Assisi
Response from Host, Dec 2023
Dear Joe, Thank you for taking your time to leave us your feedback. We are sorry to learn that something went wrong during your tour. This is a full day tour and includes the visit of two cities in the heart of Italy and a quick stop for pictures on a panoramic terrace overlooking Trasimeno Lake. Our Lago Trasimeno is one of the biggest lakes in Italy and we include a quick stop there so that our travellers have the opportunity to admire the amazing area and the surrounding panorama with hills all around the lake. This is an unmissable stop while visiting central Italy but we are sorry to learn that you felt it unnecessary. Our packages include a strict schedule so it is important to always be punctual. Arriving late at the scheduled meeting time means being disrespectful towards the rest of participants that arrived on time. That’s why our tour leaders state it clearly to avoid any inconvenience. The private tour is always a good choice for a more intimate and customised experience. I hope you will consider this option for your next trip to Italy. We thank you again for sharing your thoughts. Have a great day, CiaoFlorence Staff

The meeting point was not easy to find with Google map. Roberto was an excellent guide. The trip was very informative.
Lovely places.

Cortona and Assisi. It’s always a pleasure to see cities and towns that preserve the history and infrastructure of their place. And this places dates back centuries ago. The guides are friendly and approachable. Special mention to Gaya, for the patience and her being helpful to us. Thank you.
Awesome

Out of the World Experience. Scenic, great architecture and lots of information about Asisi and Cortona.
Love Assisi and Cortona. ...

Love Assisi and Cortona. The tour guide only gave basic information - there was a lot more information she could have shared. She actually said just go in the church and I'll meet you out here in __ minutes. She was outside on a personal call. She did not explain our time in Assisi very well because we only had 20 minutes of free time to take photos, explore, and shop at the end of tour. I would have taken time earlier in the afternoon if I had known!
Beautiful tour but very steep hills to climb!
Noah_W, Oct 2023
All the tour was fabulous but it is very very difficult to walk up the extremely steep hills in Cortona. Also Assisi has many, many stairs. I was thankful I could navigate them both. Travelers need to be told! Tour guide is excellent!
Great cities- not enough time
Lisa_G, Oct 2023
Charming cities- unfortunately the time expectation in Assisi was not clear. We were told there would be time in the city after the church tour and we ended up with 15 minutes. We would have skipped lunch to explore. The tour guide in Assisi was very knowledgeable but unfortunately extremely monotone and unenthusiastic- painful.
Great trip

Cortona and Assisi were wonderful, even with the hilly roads. The bus driver was good. The lady very good at looking after us and answering any questions. The guide around Assisi was full of information. Thanks
Assisi and Cortona
William_B, Sep 2023
The free time in both cities was not as advertised. We barely had 40 minutes in each place for free exploring and eating lunch. The local tour guide in Assisi was excellent. Very knowledgeable. The guide from Florence was not very attentive to the group. Some of the terrain was a lot steeper than expected.
Great

Tour was great. We got to see a little bit of Assisi, Lake Tresimino and Cortona. Busses we well organised and not overpacked so that everyone had room for a long bus journey to and from the towns.

Cortona and Assisi were both lovely towns. A very nice experience! Enjoyed the day and meeting other people.
Assisi is wonderful
Robyn_W, Sep 2023
Could have skipped the lake and last church and spent more time in Assisi, otherwise very good. Let people know if the escalator is not working at Assisi, older people find the steep stairs very hard.
Vivimos momentos acongojantes, sentimos frustración cuando vimos que se habían ido. We lived through distressing moment

Lindos lugares. Gracias. Nice places. Unfortunately we had a bad experience. The Tour was developed by two guides. They made us really rude. In the afternoon, they changed the meeting point without telling us and did not wait for us. They left us stranded in Assisi. When we contacted the tour operating company Ciao Florence Tour&Travels Srl, they forced us to take a taxi to meet them at the next point on the tour. Upon arriving at this place and expressing our discomfort at what happened, the guide Sara, all surprised, tells us: "but the whole group arrived." Giving us to understand that it was our misunderstanding, when clearly the guide Kattia specified where the meeting point and time was. That is to say, it was a mistake and lack of truthful communication from the guides Sara and Kattia. This happens because during the tour, part of it is done by a guide and part of it is done by another person from Assisi, predisposing these things to happen, which unfortunately happened to us. In these conditions I do not recommend the tour. When an agency leaves tourists stranded and does not take responsibility, forcing them to take a taxi and everything, due to poor communication between guides. It is unacceptable. We did several tours in Europe and only this one with Viator. I do not recommend it. Thank you.

The trip was supposed to be Assisi FIRST, then Cortana. There was absolutely no time for souvenir shopping in ASSISI which is the place I wanted to be! SO DISAPPOINTED!
Lots of Climbs
Kevin_H, Sep 2023
The tour took in all that anyone would want to see in these beautiful cities! Well organised but a long day There are times when a lot of walking is essential which was fine for us but a real struggle for some people of the party which slowed everything down Individuals need to read the itinerary to ensure they can manage the steep steps and distances . Guides and driver all excellent - effortlessly managing 3 languages
