    What To Expect

    Your journey from Florence to the Cinque Terre starts by coach, where you can relax as your guide shares stories about the area. You'll hear tales about the Tuscan city of Lucca and its famous resident Puccini, before learning about the Cinque Terre and its five fishing villages—Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, Monterosso and Riomaggiore—that form the national park.

    After a short, two-hour drive, you'll begin your hike through the Cinque Terre on the hills above Manarola. With your guide to help lead you, you'll follow a scenic trail to Corniglia, which culminates in a steep climb of some 382 steps. Note: This charming region is natural and untouched, so there are no hand rails or safety rails, and paths often cut close to the cliff's edge. (if you choose the tour option without hiking, the train will be used instead to move between villages).

    Once in Corniglia, you'll enjoy some free time where you can relax and refuel with these spectacular views, before continuing your journey with a hike to Vernazza, where you'll pass terraces of olive groves and colorful bars and cafes. Take a dip in the bay before heading to Monterosso by train, where you'll have free time to explore the beaches, wine shops and artisan goods famous to the village.

    The final portion of your journey will include a boat ride (or train ride, depending on weather) to Riomaggiore, a village known for its candy-colored houses, as well as a final hike back to Manarola. Your day trip from Florence to the Cinque Terre ends with a coach ride back to the city.

    • Suitable walking shoes are mandatory for those doing the hiking – no flip-flops. Suggestions: walking boots or sneakers, closed toe shoes with non-slip soles.
    • Not wheelchair accessible
    • If you want to swim during free time, please remember to bring your own towel and swimwear.
    • On rare occasions the boat ride will stop operating due to bad weather or strong winds. It is beyond our control so no refunds or discounts will be issued.
    • In case of unexpected closure of the paths for unforeseen events, alternative routes will be taken instead for those doing the hiking
    • Near public transportation
    • A large amount of walking is involved for those doing the hiking. You must be of average fitness and be able to keep up with the rest of the group.
    • Due to uneven surfaces, this tour is not recommended for those with walking difficulties, below average fitness, or young children.
    • Minimum age is 8 years.
    • Not recommended for travelers with back problems
    • Not recommended for pregnant travelers
    • No heart problems or other serious medical conditions
    • Travelers should have a moderate physical fitness level

    Our guides Alessandro and Stefano were great! They were extremely knowledgeable, engaging and entertaining. The hike was enjoyable with fantastic views! Wish we had a little more time in village 5 but it was all a great experience. We were lucky and the rain held out for most of the trip except for the very end.

    Lots of walking but it was worth it. Sights were great. A bunch of shops to buy things and eat. Did so much in one day. Noemi, Chris and Aldo were great guides and very accommodating. Made the entire tour great.
    A fast paced and fun day of hiking, scenery, food, wine, shopping, trains and buses. Loved it!!

    Our leader, Ado, was so knowledgeable, friendly, upbeat, personable and accommodating. We did the five-town tour plus hike. You really don't need a lot of time in each town, as they're so small. The hike was hard in terms of stairs, uneven ground and elevation: comfortable shoes, adequate mobility and fitness level are very important. The views are spectacular, even though we had rain on and off throughout the day. Don't let less than perfect weather stop you. I also liked that Ado recommended food specific in each town to try: this was a highlight. Also, don't forget to try the white wine specific to Cinque Terre!

    This trip was amazing! It was a long day but worth every second. We got to see all 5 beautiful towns and experience a little piece of each one. Our tour guides Claudia and Valentina were so lovely! They were knowledgeable and engaging, and very entertaining! The hike was definitely worth it, highly recommend if you are able. If you have the time, you have to do this trip!!!

    The guides were amazing, everything was really well organised and easy to go along with. Although it rained almost the entire time, we all still managed to have a great time. The hike is well worth it, and probably even more enjoyable in pleasant weather!

    Giancarlo and Victoria were incredible tour guides! Not only were they very informative and provided just the right amount of context during the trip, but the were INCREDIBLY organized and professional. They kept our group on track through bus rides, train rides and the hike. I would highly recommend this tour! It was the highlight of our trip!

    What a fantastic day! Tony and Otto were fantastic, high energy guides that shepherded everyone through out day to ensure everyone had a great Cinque Terre experience. We saw all five villages and truly enjoyed the hike from Corniglia to Vernazza. The views all day were breathtaking with plenty of suggestions for the local treats in each village. Cannot recommend enough!

    So happy that we booked this tour. Couldn't have asked for better guides. Jeanie, Ado, and Noemi were so knowledgeable, friendly, and easy to follow through the entire tour which included bus, trains, walking, and hiking. There were very clear meeting spots and everything ran smoothly from start to end. The sites were spectacular. The only thing I would suggest is having lunch somewhere else. There is an option to eat with the group for a price fix meal. The price is good, but the food was just OK. There were many tour groups there and it was very rushed. It's a long day, but worth it. Highly recommend.

    Well organised trip with outstanding guides (Ado and Ludo) who were informative, funny, relaxed and made sure everyone enjoyed the day. Options given to explore the towns, have lunch individually or in groups. Hike is steep in places but really worthwhile if you are reasonably fit. Long day but thoroughly enjoyable in this stunningly and historic area. Would recommend as a fantastic change of scene from Florence.

    Victoria and Egenio from WALKABOUT TOURS ensured our visit to Cinque Terre was the most amazing experience. We were given very clear instructions to make the day run smoothly between sightseeing and train rides. Our guides provided plenty of interesting information. The suggested venue for lunch was fabulous and ran like clockwork to give us plenty of time. As we had the most fabulous weather, we were very fortunate to see the French Alps. The boat trip back to Riomaggiore was enjoyed by all.

    This is a fantastic way to see the beautiful sights of Cinque Terre - a long day but stress-free and led by an extremely knowledgeable guide! Dario took great care of us, always communicated very clearly and made sure we had a wonderful time. It was very easy to move between the towns (I didn't do the hike but that meant I ended up with more time in Vernazza, which is stunning) and an easy bus trip to and from Florence (thank you, Giuseppe!). Thoroughly recommend this tour.

    Gina and Noemi were both fantastic! I would highly recommend this to anyone. Be aware that there are 387 stairs up to the lunch location. Even without the optional hike, there’s a lot of walking involved. Yes, it is a very busy and exhausting day; however, it was amazing to get to see all 5 in one day. We did the optional hike, and although it was challenging, it was doable. Definitely listen and get the lemon slushy at the halfway point. We had train delays during the day, and it was so awesome to have experience guides there to deal with all of the logistics. And we did not get the boat ride due to the weather, but it just meant more time in one of the locations! Gina was always there to point out the best picture locations, and even offered to take pictures of us. If you get them for your guide, consider yourself lucky!
