Perfect for nature lovers, enjoy the only tour currently operating to Tasmania’s Ile Des Phoques (Island Of Seals) and Maria Island. Cruise out to the islands and then be enchanted while a team of marine scientists explain the amazing world of these islands and the surrounding ecosystem. A delicious buffet lunch and drinks (alcoholic and nonalcoholic) are included.

  • If you cancel less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time, the amount you paid will not be refunded.
  • Any changes made less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time will not be accepted.
  • Cut-off times are based on the experience’s local time.
  • This experience requires good weather. If it’s canceled due to poor weather, you’ll be offered a different date or a full refund.

Really special day and highly recommend this tour. The staff are kind and informative. Our captain Steve was incredibly skilled at trying the boat into caves so we could see the amazing colors formed on the walls. We also had lots of time observing the seals. Dolphins Dean along the boat at one point which was a highlight. The time on Maria Island was exciting because of all the wildlife we saw: pademelons, wallabies, wombats, and large kangaroo!

I want to preface this review by saying up front that this was one of the best tours we took over the course of an extended trip in Australia. The guides were fabulous, the views were breathtaking, and the overall experience was wild. However, I also want to give a caveat to anyone thinking of booking this tour. This is a boat tour in a part of the world with unpredictable weather and swells. We were able to circumnavigate Maria Island, but Ile Des Phoques and the Rainbow Cave were nixed due to conditions, and parts of the tour saw 10 foot swells and high wind speeds in some parts. Our captain handled the conditions with aplomb, and we felt very safe during those times, and the company very generously made up for the conditions and changes in plans, but just be aware these things can happen. With that out of the way, WOW! Maria Island is one of the most gorgeous and photo-worthy places I've ever seen. There were so many fantastic views of the Fossil Cliffs and Painted Cliffs, along with dozens of fascinating nooks and crannies all over the island that were only accessible by boat. It just felt so special seeing all of those places, plus we had an added bonus of seals and really neat sea birds at certain stopping points. As for the island itself, one of our guides affectionately referred to it as "Wombat World" and it was definitely a moment of truth in advertising. Just off the paths on the island, we saw numerous wombats, pademelons, wallabies, and even an echidna! There were also a number of interesting historical facts and structures around the island that added to the tour in really unexpected ways. So, overall, I highly highly highly recommend this tour, but just be aware that circumstances beyond everyone's control can sometimes pop up and cause a change of plans. I can't and won't hold that against anyone, but I think it's worth knowing when you book.

The whole day was amazing! The seals, the caves, morning tea & lunch anchored at beautiful locations, Maria island, wombats. We had high swells coming from the Antarctic so Michael our skipper wasn’t sure he would be able to get us into the caves. Hats off to him because he managed it & was truely spectacular. Thank you Zoe & Michael for being such incredible hosts & making it a day my Dad & I will never forget.

I highly recommend this tour! Not only was the weather perfect, and the seals, dolphins and wombat sightings in addition to this; the crew were professional, friendly and very informative. The food was fresh and excellent, along with the choice of drinks on offer. A thoroughly enjoyable day.

Full of wildlife encounter

Team Mic, Zoe and Rachel are so accommodating, caring and approachable. Mic’s 12 yrs experience really contributed to smooth navigating and sailing of the Spirit of Maria. We spent most of the day at sea but we didn’t feel any dizziness or nauseous. Lunch was so good - salmon and roast beef salad at sea. We were also greeted good morning by dolphins and seals at Ile Des Phoques. Whilst we enjoyed basking under the sun with wombats in Maria Island in the afternoon. Overall, it was a wonderful experience. Highly recommended!

Exceeded expectations. Viewings of dolphins, seals, baby seals, wombats, roos & even an albatross were amazing. Lunch was great, very generous portion and quite a healthy salad. Crew Michael & Stephen were very hospitable and lovely.

Terrific trip. Mike and his team did an amazing job all day. Awesome boating skills got us very close the seals and right into the large caves. The provided lunch in a quiet cove really was excellent. Definitely recommend.

Michael and Ally were very helpful and friendly. Enjoyed the itinerary and views very much though the sea was rough on the day. We couldn’t go to the Island of Seals due to strong wind but luckily still managed to see a few seals.
