Ok experience. Didn’t love it or hate it

    1) the location is very far from main Kyoto area. It took us more than 40mins in a cab and over $30 to get there or change 2 trains and even longer. 2) the place is an old photo shoot / kimono rental place. It’s very old so is interesting in built/ architecture. 3) they had a lot of kimonos to choose from. The owner helps you choose and dress. They are very helpful and kind. 4) Dressing in kimonos and taking pictures was fun. They take the pictures for you and then airdrop them. So that’s nice and convenient. 5) the tea ceremony itself left a lot to be desired. Trying the matcha in a ceremonial manner was interesting but he couldn’t explain too much about the history or significance of tea ceremonies or lot of detail about them Overall I feel like we spent over 4hours doing this, given a chance again I won’t spend all that time and money on it again.

We were dressed with their collection of beautiful designs kimono by the owners, performed the tea ceremony and explained it step by step. We had fun over all, the matcha tea was very good. The owners Masaya and wife were very accommodating and friendly.

Beautiful kimonos. Individual care and attention. Wonderful tea ceremony- moving but not rigidly formal. Fantastic way to spend the afternoon.

This was one of the highlights of our trip so far! Loved the intimate setting and the time they spent making the kimono’s look just right on us. The ceremony was very interesting and it was well explained on how each step was to be done. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

Amazing experience! I really wanted to partake in a traditional tea ceremony while visiting Japan & to learn some Japanese culture. You can tell Toku & his assistant are very passionate about what they do and they are so incredibly friendly! It was a smooth reservation, the tea and sweet were delicious & we learned lots! It was also super fun to try on the kimonos, which some are over 80 years old! 🤯 I definitely recommend booking with them and I can't wait to see the photos they took when they send them to us.

I would highly recommend this experience in Kyoto. I very much enjoyed learning about the philosophy and etiquette of a traditional Japanese tea ceremony. It was great fun dressing up in the beautiful kimonos. It is a small group very personal experience and I felt very special. Many thanks to Toku and his family for sharing their family history and giving me this experience.
Great authentic experience for a family

This was our first experience of a tea ceremony. Our hosts were very friendly, and knowledgeable. They kept our teenagers engaged with humor and a down-to-earth approach to the ceremony. The kimonos we got to wear were beautiful and provided some great photos. One of our hosts took photos and shared it with us so we didn’t have to be distracted during the ceremony. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to experience a real-life tea ceremony.
    Not to miss.

Meshiya (I hope I spelled it correctly) and the nice lady in a kimono was excellent! My family had a great time doing the tea ceremony. Meshiya was very informative and accommodating to us. We were late due to some unforeseen circumstances. Our family appreciated their time. They have a beautiful collection of kimono, we had fun choosing and dressing on our kimono. Great experience!
    A must-do

Incredible experience! This is one of our favorite things we’ve done in Japan so far. It was so wonderful to get to learn about tea ceremonies and have the chance to participate in one. It was both informative AND relaxing! (And they take lots of great photos for you!)
    Great tea ceremony experience!

Mesaia (I probably misspelt it, sorry) was an amazing host, with more than sufficient english level. Him and his house felt extremely welcoming and comfortable. We were 5 people and each of us got a beautiful kimono. The tea ceremony takes place in their cosy living room. Both activities felt really warm and close, Mesaia explains their traditions and kindly answers any questions. At the end he lowered the lights to speak about the tea ceremony and its significance, it was very relaxing. I think this experience was great coming from both a local and a kimono expert! Very recommendable
    A captivating experience!
