I highly recommend the Cooking Class and Market Tour in Civitavechhia! We were in town for a day on a cruise ship stop and we did not want to go into Rome so we decided to stay in port and cook some authentic Italian food and we are so happy that we did. Olga met us at the port and we walked the short walk to the restaurant, Otto.Zero (unfortunately we did not get to shop for our ingredients at the market as it was a holiday in Italy that day but this did not put a damper on our experience). Mateo, the restaurant owner and our chef, was warm and welcoming. He was very professional and patient as he explained how to create all the delicious recipes. We made a traditional Italian cuisine of gnocchi with homemade tomato sauce, veal saltimbocca, and tiramisu and it was all delicious. This was a highlight of our time in Italy and I highly recommend this tour.

Our guide, Olga, and Chef Mateo were fabulous. Mateo made sure he had Gluten Free Flour and made the experience of cooking in Italy most memorable for our group

    Wonderful Taste of Italy

We loved experiencing the market with our guide. The cooking experience with chef Patrizia was wonderful! We made bread, pizza, veal, gnocchi, and an apricot tart. We then sat down to enjoy it all in her lovely restarant. As if there wasn't enough food already, the chef added a beautiful charcuterie board and wine to the meal. Great people, great experience!

    Confusion and then relief

When we booked the excursion, we believed that we would tour the market, gather items, and prepare them for a meal. Unfortunately, the market was closed due to a Holiday- this wasn’t shared with any of the guests until we met the guide. This should’ve been communicated with us much earlier- at booking. I would understand if it was an emergency closing, but not for a Holiday. However, the experience at the restaurant was Very Good! The chef, Matteo, was a great teacher, explaining how and why as we progressed through the process. We enjoyed our time with complete strangers and the meal was delicious. I suggest changing the excursion to a cooking session with a chef and maintain your relationship with Matteo.

We apologize for the inconvenience related to the closure of the local market, which is beyond our control. We thank you for choosing our Cooking Class anyway and we are happy that you liked it. We will certainly take note of your advice and look forward to seeing you soon in Civitavecchia... also with Matteo.
    Awesome!

    Excellent Experience

We had this experience the day before our cruise and it stands out as one of the best hours of the trip. Only the two of us partook of this cooking lesson. Our guide Olga took us both to the market before the cooking lesson. She was knowledgeable and very personable. The Civitavecchia market was a delight for all of our senses. After our market shop we were brought to a small restaurant operated by Chef Patrizia. Olga was our interpreter for the cooking lesson...sweets, bread, gnocchi, veal saltimbocca, & bruschetta. My husband had always wanted to learn the proper way to make the gnocchi, and he got a full on lesson. Everything turned out delicious and it was an experience we shall never forget! Dining al fresco with our creations was a perfect ending to the lesson. We would highly recommend this cooking lesson for anyone interested in fresh, good simple Italian cuisine.

What a wonderful day! Paola met us promptly and we started our tour of the market. Along the way she shared the history of her town, an added bonus! Her knowledge of the market and local vendors made us feel like locals. The experience at the restaurant was even more fun! Chef treated us like family as she shared her recipients and techniques with us. Everything was delicious! Some may look at the cost of the tour and hesitate, but don’t! This experience is worth every penny!

    Cooking Italian with Giuliana-Fantastic!
    Edmund_T, Jul 2022
Great experience for anyone who likes cooking and great Italian food. Walked to a local farmers market and our guide, Paula, did some shopping for items needed for the meal. At the restaurant, we met Giuliana. our teacher and gracious host. We were seated and had a starter of figs and focaccia with Prosecco. Then onto the kitchen where we made potato gnocchi, saltimbocca, a red sauce, and tiramisu. It was hands on as we got to roll and cut the gnocchi, flour, and sauté the veal, and assemble the tiramisu. Next, we were seated back in the restaurant, and we were served the items we make. A wonderful wine accompanied the meal an added treat we had a deep-fried zucchini flower. Amazing. We would highly recommend this tour--it usually has 3-4 couples but, on our day, we were the only ones there, so it really was a private cooking class!
