Overview

On the outskirts of Vegas, once the neon lights fade and the sound of traffic is replaced by the rush of the wind, the Valley of Fire is a geologic wonder that’s best explored on two feet. On this Valley of Fire hiking excursion, marvel at Native American petroglyphs that are believed to be 3,000 years old, and enjoy the multihued desert scenery in Nevada’s oldest state park. Pass Lake Mead and the Moapa Indian Reservation. This small-group tour has a variable duration—depending on the difficulty of hike you choose.
  • Choose an easy, moderate, or difficult guided hike among the red rock formations and petroglyphs
  • Keep your energy up with complimentary snacks and water
  • Hotel pickup and drop-off included

Pickup details

Pick up will be at your hotel or a hotel relatively close. You will be contacted 1-2 days before your reservation date to confirm pick up time and exact location. If you are staying at a hotel or rental home away from the strip or downtown you will be asked to go to the nearest Strip or Downtown hotel property.

What To Expect

Depending upon which option you choose, this Valley of Fire hiking tour either leaves Las Vegas at sunrise, or later in the day in the late morning or early afternoon. Once you meet with the rest of your group, which won’t exceed 13 people, leave the lights of Vegas behind and begin to commune with nature, as you travel out into the wide-open desert.

Along the drive, make a stop at the Moapa Indian Reservation to pick up some fireworks, liquor, or cigarettes that are completely duty-free.

When you enter the Valley of Fire State Park, your guide explains the area’s history as well as its fascinating geology, and leads you to the trailhead of whichever hike you’ve chosen.

Over the course of the trek through the park, learn about the erosion and seismic fault lines that have created the rugged terrain, all while surrounded by a surreal landscape of enormous, deeply red rocks. For thousands of years, Native American-Indian tribes have lived and survived in this landscape, and your guide offers some fascinating insight to their legends, history, and myths, as well as point out some ancient petroglyphs that have been here for 3,000 years.

Water and snacks are provided for the hike, and once you’ve conquered the dusty trail and soaked up the epic beauty, you have the chance to explore the Valley of Fire official visitors center. On the car ride back to Las Vegas, rest your legs and watch the scene slowly change outside the window, as the windswept desert slowly gives to the glitz, glamor, and lights.

Beautiful experience

Our guide, Matthew, was great! He quickly assessed the abilities of the group and guided us on the perfect path for us. Challenging and exciting while still being “doable “. Two thumbs up 👍🏻 👍🏻. Such a beautiful day!
Matthew is a fantastic guide

When Matthew picked us up and said he likes to take us where no one else goes it was 5 stars for us already :) we didn’t see one person on our hike, it was just our group. We felt very safe with Matthew with his experience and knowledge of the area, he kept us hydrated, gave us snacks, checked on our welfare, seeked us as much shade as he could, gave us chances to catch our breathe. I feel like he challenged us on this hike… in a good way, at the end I felt a massive achievement. Highly recommend you book this tour and ask for Matthew if you can.
Stunningly beautiful hike!

Amazing experience! As a family of 5 we had the tour to ourselves and Sarah customized it for us. She picked us up right on time, was a great guide and lots of fun. Dropped us right back to our hotel entrance. All in all a wonderful day!
Early morning Valley of fire
ray_a, Apr 2024
Sarah was very knowledgeable and easy going. She presented choices instead of running us through a regular tour ( which we were very delighted to be able to customize our tour). We also learned so much about the area. Thank you Sarah@ lovehikes Definitely the highlight of our visit to Vegas , would 100% recommend to anyone.
Perfect afternoon excursion

This is an odd review but I cannot say enough about how amazing our guide Michael was . I slipped on some loose gravel and shattered my ankle . He got help , the other members of the tour helped me get as comfortable as I could while waiting for paramedics who then had to carry me out of park and onto the hospital . Micheal and other members of the company called to check in on me . It was a random freak accident but everyone handled it so calmly and professionally- I can’t say enough good things truly
Unforgettable experience!

Very unusual terrain. Our tour guide Nick was very knowledgeable and made the hike very interesting. I also like the part when we had to smell the plants.

Great trip. Our guide, Matt, was great. He was very knowledgeable, welcoming and catered to hike to our needs and desires. He took us away from more touristy hike paths and we had super sights to see. Recommend this to anyone going to Las Vegas.
Highly recommend for amazing views and fun experience!

Great experience
Christian_R, Apr 2024
We went, our boys are 8 and 10, for the moderate hike. The park itself is fantastic and the hike was amazing. Our guide was excellent with the kids, and being able to go on essentially our own trail is a great way to go around what would have been a crowded experience otherwise. Highly recommend.
Great way to start the day!
Rhonda_K, Apr 2024
On time, friendly leader. a great group vibe. Considerate (stops on the drive for restrooms); entertaining chatter and good knowledge of the geology. Slightly challenging appropriate level for the hike.
Wonderful hike

Matt from LoveHikes was great. He gave us great info on what we were looking at and walking through. I would highly recommend him as a guide. The area we walked through was magnificent. Lived up to our expectations.
Breathing and Wonderful Experience
Angela_W, Mar 2024
The guided tour was amazing. Our guide Michael was awesome. We called him Saint Michael. Totally blessed by the experience. He was well versed on the area from the time he picked us up from our hotel and throughout the hike. He was able to communicate about the plants and petroglyphs and show us hidden spots we would not have seen on our own and kept us safe while having a great time. We are better for having met Saint Michael and seeing and taking in all of God's creation at the Valley of Fire. The pictures are amazing but don't do it justice. We highly recommend this friendly hike and our guide Saint Michael. It is worth the trip. You will definitely get your full value and then some for the price.
Great experience!!
John_B, Mar 2024
This was a great experience. We did the moderate hike and for the most part is was very easy. There were a few areas we had to climb over some rocks but it was not too difficult. Our guide Nick was incredible!! He was extremely knowledgeable about the area and pointed out a lot of landmarks and educated us on the plants and animals that are indigenous to the area. Highly recommend!!
Recommend it 5stars

Loved the ride to Valley of Fire with Michael pointing out sights along the way and great car music. The hikes featured amazing views of the mountains and landforms. An awesome trip all the way around! Highly recommend it.
