What To Expect

Meet your own personal guide upon hotel pickup for the scenic drive from London to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. On arrival, you’ll get a private tour of several Royal Navy ships. Explore the decks of the HMS Victory, Lord Nelson’s flagship during the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.

Discover what life was like at sea for the sailors, then step foot aboard the Mary Rose, the flagship of King Henry VIII. Now a living museum filled with artifacts, this 16th-century vessel sank and was later raised from the seabed in the 1980s. Another highlight is the nearby HMS Warrior, a powerful, iron-hulled warship of the 19th century.

If weather allows, tour Portsmouth Harbour by boat for a look at docked modern-day vessels belonging to the Royal Navy. You’ll have time to purchase fish and chips (own expense) before the return drive to London.

Private tour is the only way to go...

Private tour is the only way to go to a place you know little about. Kevin, our tour guide, was wonderful! He had a passion for history and it really shined through! The dockyards were interesting but I enjoyed all the conversation the royals and Jack the Ripper also. Plus it was fun asking questions about cultural differences.

My guide and driver, Richard, was very knowledgeable about the history of the southern coastal communities, and the Naval History of Portsmouth, it's incredible sailing vessels, and Lord Horatio Nelson. Very enjoyable journey which left me wanting to visit other towns in the area, at some future date!

This was overpriced for what we got...

This was overpriced for what we got. We came from London which was a long trip for 5 of us in a very small car. We were cramped and going wait to get out. Our driver was very nice but didn't really tour us anywhere. We arrived and had to wait in line for tickets. Our driver/guide bought them but I would have thought we would have already had tickets. Then he asked us what we wanted to do. We had no idea as we hadn't been there. Isn't it supposed to be a guided tour. There were many activities with entrance fees and we didn't know what was already included in our viator fee. Our driver did basically no guiding... he just escorted us around. We could have gotten our own transportation for much cheaper! Don't recommend this. Although the HMS Victory audio tour and boat tour are awesome. But you don't need viator to do this.
